Hello Lovelies! As we make our resolutions and check them twice, I thought we could start a skincare version of the Weekly Challenge. Many of us wanted to use more masks, shop our stash and focus on our Skin so hopefully this thread will be an inspiration to do just that. Join us with pictures and comments down below.

Masking Spreadsheet Info

Hello every, @eshoe and I are very happy to present the BIC Masking Challenge Spreadsheet. The idea is to have an easily searchable database of masks and reviews as a reference point when we are considering our next purchase. Data integrity was important to us so instead of everyone inputing data directly into the spreadsheet where theoretically information could be deleted or edited we have the questionnaire. It should take no longer then 1-2 minutes with the option for a more detailed review (which you can copy from your post on this thread).

Remember the idea is not to replace this thread. I personally love reading, commenting and interacting with all you amazing women here and that shouldn’t change. This would just be on top of that. Hopefully the more people that partake in this, the larger database of information we’ll have for reference. It will be extra effort in the beginning but then we would only need to input any new mask we’ve tried.

Doing some catch up here. My initial plan for Wednesday's masking was to make "B" about Bananas and Bubbles - with the A'Pieu Banana Milk One-Pack Sheet Mask (Nourishing), one of my favorite masks of last year that also happens to fit into this week's other theme, "B" masks, in the morning, and the Missha Super Aqua PORE-Kling Bubble Sheet Mask as part of my evening skincare. Yes, I was going to try out a bubble sheet mask and believe me, I fully intended on going through with it, but alas, the mask did not cooperate. LOL!

A'Pieu Banana Milk One-Pack Sheet Mask (Nourishing) is a cotton sheet mask that contains a host of good-for-your-skin ingredients - milk extract to soften and hydrate the skin; milk proteins to gently exfoliate dead skin cells, banana extract for nourishment, and royal jelly to soothe and moisturize the skin. It smells like bananas but the scent fades quickly and is pretty much undetectable once you're wearing the mask. This was a mask I discovered in 2018 and one of my favorites of the challenge last year. The fit is what I would consider 'normal' for sheet masks, so for me at least, there are some minor adjustments but it's fine; I've come to expect that will be needed for most, if not all, sheet masks I use. There are several different masks within this line, and one thing I've noticed about all of the masks is that, for some reason, the packaging is such that it is difficult to open by hand; it's not impossible but it doesn't tear easily or smoothly. Not a deal breaker but just something I note. Of all the masks in this line, this banana milk one and the milk one are my favorites. This one does what it claims and leaves my skin nourished and moisturized. An "A" mask in my book. 😉

Alright, now on to the problem child. I was all ready to use a full face bubble sheet mask. I've used them before from other brands and they're just not my favorite. In fact, I'd probably say bubble masks are my least favorite kind of sheet mask; I'll use them when they're of the wash-of form, but I tend to steer away from the ones that are full face sheet masks. The Missha Super Aqua PORE-Kling Bubble Sheet Mask seemed different as it was a 2-step sheet mask and the mask itself was 2-pieces. The design of the mask is such that, at least on my face, it does not surround the entire eye area - the 2 pieces do not connect to surround that area. This was looking promising. Or, so I thought ....

Step 1 is a really thick serum, more in line with the consistency of what I'd expect from an ampoule (but even more viscous) - to put it in laymen's terms, it has a goo-ey consistency to it, a smooth goo, if you will. 😉 Per the instructions, this is to be spread onto the skin. I applied the serum to 2 cotton pads and then spread it onto my face with the pads - it seemed less messy to do it this way. Step 2 calls for applying the 2 sheet mask pieces, which are dry. One side has a plastic film over it, while the other side feels as if it is made of a dense cotton, almost like paper with a pattern etched into it. I placed the dry sheet mask on top of the serum on my face, with the plastic side of the sheet mask against my skin. The forehead portion fit well, but the same could not be said about the bottom half. It was just ill-fitting all around; I took out a pair of scissors to see if adding a few more cuts here and there would help and to say it did "a little" would be pushing it. It was fine, but it didn't feel like anything was happening during the first 5 minutes other than the bottom portion of the mask detaching from the goo. I decided to press the mask lightly against my face, so as to make contact with the sheet mask and the goo. In doing so, I'd hear a few, quiet "snaps", "crackles" and "pops" like the sound you'd hear when making rice krispies - but without the delicious rice krispies. 😞 After doing that for some time, I just decided to call it quits and remove the mask and wash off the serum. Plan B - No Bubbles, No Problem

Wednesday PM Masking, Take 2

Given that the "bubble" mask was , I decided to see what masks I could pull together for a mask session and these were within reach. I've already commented on the lip scrub by Sara Happ (Blood Orange) - I will get through this scrub! - and the BKR - Paris Water Balm (loving this one!) so I'll just focus on the masks.

BOSCIA - Charcoal Pore Pudding Intensive Wash-Off Treatment is one I've used before; it's one of those masks I'd consider to be a good mask and I'm working on using it up. The layers of black and white charcoal blend to produce a grey semi-thick, gel-like mask that claims to detoxify and decongest pores and moisturize the skin. The mask itself does not dry down and harden, and has a subtle herbal scent. I think the mask does a pretty good job at decongesting pores. I have dehydrated-dry skin; I don't think someone with my skin type would say the mask is very moisturizing; it doesn't make my skin feel tight or dry, but I wouldn't say it was moisturizing necessarily, though if you have normal-combination or oily skin, I might see how that would be different. Overall, I'd give it a B+.

The Banobagi Vita Genic Relaxing Jelly Mask Sheet (Vitamin B) is from the same line as the Vitamin A mask I used last week. Material and fit were the same as the Vitamin A - slightly thicker cotton saturated in serum; longer and a bit wider than my face but perfectly fine with the adjustments to the parts of the mask covering the chin, inner and outer corners of the eyes and the outer corners of the lips. Notable ingredients in this mask are: aloe vera extract (soothing; hydrating); niacinamide (brightening); panthenol (vitamin B5; it's a humectant - good for hydrating the skin); biotin (vitamin B7 - helps with new cell production and condition of skin); adenosine (anti-aging); hyaloronic acid (hydrating); and ubiquinone (aka Co-Q10 - boosts hydration and stimulates collagen production and skin elasticity).

I learned from the Vitamin A mask that this one can be left on for a lot longer than the recommended 20 minutes. I ended up leaving this on for a total of 40 minutes and then pressing the excess serum onto my skin to help with its absorption. My skin felt really hydrated and had a bounce to it. This is Vitamin B mask earns an "A" from me. It's a mask that I plan to keep on hand given the ingredients and the results.<DIV class="lia-spoiler-noscript-content">Given that the "bubble" mask was , I decided to see what masks I could pull together for a mask session and these were within reach. Notable ingredients in this mask are: aloe vera extract (soothing; hydrating); niacinamide (brightening); panthenol (vitamin B5; it's a humectant - good for hydrating the skin); biotin (vitamin B7 - helps with new cell production and condition of skin); adenosine (anti-aging); hyaloronic acid (hydrating); and ubiquinone (aka Co-Q10 - boosts hydration and stimulates collagen production and skin elasticity).  I learned from the Vitamin A mask that this one can be left on for a lot longer than the recommended 20 minutes. I ended up leaving this on for a total of 40 minutes and then pressing the excess serum onto my skin to help with its absorption. My skin  felt really hydrated and had a bounce to it. This is Vitamin B mask earns an "A" from me. It's a mask that I plan to keep on hand given the ingredients and the results.</DIV>

@itsfi I am really kicking myself for not picking up a pack of those Banobagi masks at TJ Maxx! Sounds like it is a great mask.

And then....oh my goodness. The Missha fiasco. Smooth goo, no thank you. And if I hear snap crackle and pop, I would be anticipating something much better than this.

The Banobagi mask was at TJ Maxx, @eshoe??! 😲 I feel like the TJ Maxx and Marshalls near me tend to lag behind other stores. This has its advantages because I get a preview of what I might find if I were to go 2-3 weeks after someone posts about some great finds! The Missha is definitely something we should all pass on! 😣

Ugh, on more than one occasion @itsfi🙄 It went on clearance and I passed it up because I made a pact with myself not to buy a multi-pack of any brand I hadn’t yet tried. Thank you for the heads up on the Missha though!!!

Yeah, it’s a hard call @eshoe! I get ya! When I see packs of masks at TJ Maxx / Marshalls, I always wonder “should I?” With the low buy, it’s so much easier to just pass on things.

Oh no about the bubble mask @itsfi, but nice to find another mask that you enjoyed using. Where were the vitamin masks from? They sound nice.

@CC3616, I found the vitamin sheet masks on masksheets(dot)com. They sell them individually and in a box of 10. They always have some sale going on with boxes of sheet masks; but it's hard to know when any particular brand will be on sale.

@veronika23, I took the fiasco with the bubble sheet mask as a sign that bubble sheet masks and I are not meant to be. hahahaha! 🙂 I'm not heartbroken at all about that. The Vitamin B mask is my surprise find; I thought it would just be an okay mask, but muh face loved the hydration. 🙂 I'm glad I picked up a 5-pack last year even though I really didn't need more masks.
