Hello Lovelies! As we make our resolutions and check them twice, I thought we could start a skincare version of the Weekly Challenge. Many of us wanted to use more masks, shop our stash and focus on our Skin so hopefully this thread will be an inspiration to do just that. Join us with pictures and comments down below.
Masking Spreadsheet Info
Hello every, @eshoe and I are very happy to present the BIC Masking Challenge Spreadsheet. The idea is to have an easily searchable database of masks and reviews as a reference point when we are considering our next purchase. Data integrity was important to us so instead of everyone inputing data directly into the spreadsheet where theoretically information could be deleted or edited we have the questionnaire. It should take no longer then 1-2 minutes with the option for a more detailed review (which you can copy from your post on this thread).
Remember the idea is not to replace this thread. I personally love reading, commenting and interacting with all you amazing women here and that shouldn’t change. This would just be on top of that. Hopefully the more people that partake in this, the larger database of information we’ll have for reference. It will be extra effort in the beginning but then we would only need to input any new mask we’ve tried.
Additional Info:
Since we aren’t allowed to post links, please PM or myself for it. You will also find this information on the original post so you don’t need a database to search for this post!
Incase you need some help to filter/search results, try this :-
Search Specific Word or Phrase —> Edit -> Find and Replace -> Search Word
Filter/Organize by Columns --> Data -> Create a Filter -> Select Options
There are 2 ways to edit a response:
1) Once you have completed a survey, click on the "Edit Your Response" link on that page. Once this page is closed, the only way to make a change is to:
2) PM @Aaliaa or @eshoe to make the change directly in the response spreadsheet
Thanks @eshoe for putting this together!
Rules
Each week there will be a new Masking Challenge posted. It will range from type of mask, brand specific week or fun challenges along the way.
Choose mask, take picture (with mask on or before), place mask on face, relax and dream of the next Sephora purchase you want to make, remove mask for healthier skin.
Have Fun!!
P.S. If you have any suggestions or challenge recommendations feel free to message me and I'll add them to the list.

I am the antithesis of an ingredient stickler, so I'm not necessarily the best person to ask lol. I enjoy looking up certain ingredients when someone brings them up so I can make my own decision, but I'm not fully fluent in what I've decided is bad (yet).
I avoid alcohol and witch hazel (alcohol is likely used during the distillation process and remains in the final product...Thayer's claims they use no alcohol in their processing, but since I can't vouch for any other source of it, I avoid it altogether). Added fragrance or fragrant essential oils (and this is a tricky area where I do want to learn more...some essential oils are good for skin, but many aren't) is also a bad idea (it can increase your skin's sensitivity over time), but that one is a bit tougher for me...sometimes the ingredients in unfragranced products smell bad, and I have a hard time wanting to use the product.
In my mind, it really boils down to figuring out what works for you, and being willing to do a little research from time to time. Don't be afraid to look something up...c&p an ingredient into Google and see what comes up, and read both sides if there seems to be a debate. In any case, I saw no debate over either of the two ingredients discussed here in particular, and saw zero cause for alarm. 😊
Just to clarify @RGbrown I didn’t mention that it was ether in the mask but 2 derivatives of ether. 😉 Perfluoros are used in sprays as PFC’s ( perfluorocarbons ) so that’s how the bubbles are made ! They also pollute the air ....
They aren't anesthetic ether, so why would she feel dizzy? I guess I'm confused as to why you brought that up at all. It read to me as if you were warning folks to stay away because of the "ether".
In any case, my apologies, I guess I misunderstood what you were trying to say. I had fun looking up the perfluoros in any case...
On a related note though, there are several other ether derivatives used in cosmetics/skincare (and you've probably used at least one, if not many). Spoiler'd due to length
It was for having a little fun @RGbrown ! I know that these aren’t gases so she shouldn’t feel dizzy! We like to laugh once in a while! No offence to you my friend 😉 !
Omg!! @keana1 I didn't even see that!! I thought I payed attention before, but clearly I was searching for the word alcohol! Uughhhhhhhhh
@keana1 Wow, I see that!! Have you ever seen that in a mask before? Gosh, that's a anesthesia that so made people sick after surgery!! 😝
@yankeefaithful I found out why ether derivatives are used in skincare : they solubilize hydrophobic ( oils ) compounds. There are different oils in this mask! There are better options available to do the same thing! @eshoe@itsfi@lmaster . It’s like we were in a time warp ! ( this is the Star Trek lover in me talking 🖖 LOL 😝)
I'm just in shock @keana1 some ingredients they put in some of these masks just is scary!!
I agree 100% with you @lmaster ! 😱 That’s why I always read the ingredients list! It started as a professional deformity... I am shocked that ether derivatives are used in 2018 ! I wouldn’t want that on my skin! I would understand if we were in the 18th century but not now!
That totally scares me now!! @keana1 can you educate me more in what ingredients to look out for? Other than alcohol and ether...omg
@keana1 Thanks for doing the research and the info!! Live Long and Prosper!!!😉🖖(I'm one of those that can't do the Vulcan sign, 🤨)
I have never seen ether as an ingredient in a skincare product before @yankeefaithful ! I did a double take when I read this ! I really don’t know why ether derivatives are used in this mask? I’ll have to check the dermatology section of my pharmaceutical sciences textbook that I kept. I’ll let you know if I find a reason!
Bubbling sheet masks scare me, @lmaster! Love them as traditional masks though. Hope your skin is back to normal soon.
The bubbling that has the potential to reach your eyes, nose...combined with the expectation to leave a mask on for a certain amount of time @lmaster—apparently it’s more self-imposed than anything else!
@eshoe ahhh ok with this one it just bubbled slightly under the mask, thank goodness 😉
@lmaster I hope your skin is okay! I hate it when a mask burns or irritates your skin. Hope the redness is temporary!!😡🤞
Thank you @yankeefaithful it was, I woke up and my face was fine, just oily today, so not sure now if it was the mask with alcohol in it or this mask 🙄
I’ve never experienced that with a bubble mask @lmaster. Is your skin still red?
