Mask of the Week Misc. Info & Previous Year's Links:

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas.

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

@itsfi Definitely!!

Re: ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ˜Œ Mask of the Week Challenge ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ’–

More J-Beauty masks from last week.

J Beauty (mask - hearts).jpg

J-Beauty Absolute Precious Hydrating & Anti-Wrinkle Mask:
Material: This is one of the thinnest sheet masks I've ever used. It's delicate and resilient at the same time, too, if that makes sense. Soft, thin, light and delicate, possibly cotton cupra, maybe Tencel. Either way, lovely. Wore extremely comfortably.
Essence: Light, thin, watery. I picked up the absolute faintest of scents. I could not make out specifically what it was, but it seemed to lean on the subtly floral side. The mask was covered but not saturated in the essence. Some parts of the mask held more essence than others.
* Width: noticeably wider than most sheet masks, for my face size and shape at least.

* Length: Too long at chin / jawline (by about 1"); perfect fit at forehead (since I have a larger one, this is probably on the larger side then)

* Eyes: good size-wise, in that it's not too narrow. No incisions needed to inner corners but minor adjustment to the outer corners to keep it from getting too close to eyes and to help the material lay down against the skin. There are also eye flaps to this mask.

* Nose: Good, no adjustment needed. May not be long enough for some noses.

* Mouth: slight adjustment needed to out corners so that they didn't smoosh my lower lip - I have a poutier lower lip so the shape, size and placement of the mouth hole will likely be fine for most folks.
Adherence: Good. I didn't have any issues with the mask coming loose or lifting. Air bubbles could be smoothed over easily. Did not become an issue either when I used a quartz roller.
Claim(s): Hydrating and anti-wrinkle
Performance & Results: I'm not sure how I would judge the "anti-wrinkle" claims. I know wrinkles will become more noticeable on my face at some point, but do I know when that will be? No. Not knowing that, how would I know if this fights against that happening? Or delays the onset of it? Hmmm... ๐Ÿค” I'm going to have to think about how to best test that claim.
Now the hydrating claims, well, that I can speak to and my mug was the perfect canvas on which to test it because it had been parched (probably still is right now). Sigh. I'd say this gives light-to-moderate hydration. Not enough hydration on the most dehydrated or driest parts of my face, but there's a lot of excess essence that remains on my forehead in particular (the most "normal" part of my face) after a 20 minute wear time that I can slide on over to the more thirsty dehydrated parts.
My Two Cents: The thin, soft material of this mask feels so nice on the skin, very relaxing and comforting. I'd happily use this one again, maybe better for me in the spring or summer months. Big 'thank you' to the lovely @heartsmyface for sending this one my way. ๐Ÿ˜˜

J Beauty (peach Ceramide).jpg

BCL Momo Puri Jelly Mask

This thin, soft cotton BCL Momo Puri Jelly Mask adheres wonderfully and wears comfortably on the skin for the entire 40 minutes I left it on. It is soaked, but not drenched or dripping in a refreshing and deliciously peach scented, clear, jelly essence. There's extra essence inside the pouch. Fit can be made to work with a few adjustments to the usual spots - the chin/jawline and the corners of the eyes and mouth. This brand has two sheet masks, this one with a jelly essence and another with a milky jelly essence. Both contain a lactobacillus blend (lactic acid). Where they differ is in the type of peach ceramides included in each mask. The milky jelly version contains peach ceramides, while this jelly essence version contains peach ceramide water. It's hard to go wrong with either version and ultimately, I will repurchase both. Love! โ™ฅ๏ธโ™ฅ๏ธโ™ฅ๏ธ Looking forward to hearing your take on this one @Shosh85!

Tarte SEA Glaze Jelly Glaze Anytime Lip Mask:

I paired my masking with the strawberry version of the Tarte SEA Glaze Jelly Glaze Anytime Lip Mask (btw, what's up with the long product names? I'm all for truth in advertising but my goodness! That's a mouthful! ๐Ÿ˜‚). This is a sweet scented, thick but not sticky, goopy or greasy balm that leaves a beautiful, soft hint of color on my lips. It's not super easy to get the product out of the tube, though that may be due, in part, to the size of this particular sample (which by the way, contains a lot of product. I've had this one since the fall of last year and have reached for it at least once per week). A little does go a long way and my lips feel moisturized when I use it. ๐Ÿ’– This lip mask can be purchased separately as well as in a set of 4 different flavors. I've gifted the set a couple of times, either as full set or broken apart and included with other treats and have received good feedback on them. @lmaster, I think it was you (was it you?) who I was talking to about this one? If so, I think it's one you'd like.

Re: ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ˜Œ Mask of the Week Challenge ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ’–

@itsfi  Ooops, I just realized I have the other peach mask - their packaging is SO similar! This one sounds great! ๐Ÿ‘

Oh my goodness, too funny... I actually had the opposite results from the J Beauty mask! It made my face incredibly smooth, but a little dry... haha! So weird we had such different results! ๐Ÿค”

Re: ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ˜Œ Mask of the Week Challenge ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ’–

@Shosh85, I think you will love the version you have; it has a milky serum! โ™ฅ๏ธ I love them both The packaging is very similar. I think the main difference other than the name is that the one you have has a pale peach hue on the front where this one has white.

Ohhh, that is funny! Itโ€™s rare that we get such different results from a mask. Weโ€™ll blame my skin ๐Ÿ˜ as itโ€™s been extra sensitive and finicky the last couple of weeks!!

Re: ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ˜Œ Mask of the Week Challenge ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ’–

Yep it was me!! @itsfi those look like a great set

Re: ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ˜Œ Mask of the Week Challenge ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ’–

@lmaster, I was surprised, in a good way, about how well this lip mask performed. ๐Ÿ˜ I donโ€™t need more lip balms / lip masks but the set does look good. ๐Ÿค” ๐Ÿ˜†

Re: ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ˜Œ Mask of the Week Challenge ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ’–

J is for juxtaposition between a harsh exfoliant treatment and a soothing cream mask.
The hey honey sweet treat mask smells like berry yogurt (it doesnโ€™t taste like berry yogurt) Itโ€™s creamy with what I thought were little black seeds in it but the โ€˜seedsโ€™ dissolve into the cream as you apply it.  It claims to help restore your skin barrier with wild berry oil, honey and vitamin E.  Its a 20 minute mask youโ€™re just supposed to wipe away the excess of.  My skin appreciated it after the KS exfoliating treatment which Iโ€™m sure everyone knows I like?  It felt harsher than usual but thatโ€™s no surprise with all the protective mask wearing doing the exfoliating for me. I just felt it was time to do an all over skin clarifying.

Re: ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ˜Œ Mask of the Week Challenge ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ’–

@heartsmyface  Yum! That Hey Honey mask sounds wonderful! It's probably a good thing it doesn't taste like berry yogurt too! ๐Ÿ˜‹

Re: ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ˜Œ Mask of the Week Challenge ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ’–

The hey honey scent sounds amazing @heartsmyface

Re: ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ˜Œ Mask of the Week Challenge ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ’–

Loving the J theme here @heartsmyface! The Hey Honey mask sounds fantastic! ๐Ÿ˜ I don't need another mask, but I'm still adding it to the list. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Re: ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ˜Œ Mask of the Week Challenge ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ’–

@itsfi   Yeah Iโ€™m just trying to use products but thought Iโ€™d attempt to be on theme.  Itโ€™s a delicious smelling mask.  I believe I got this one in an Ipsy bag.  Ha, Iโ€™m trying so hard not to have a serious list and am talking myself down when I make them.  I caught myself today looking at new skincare releases, had some in my cart and went and looked at my newly organized skincare to take the โ€˜needโ€™ away.  Seeing what I already have in distinct sections by category is helping- for now.
If I see a bunch of you start raving about something itโ€™s all over.  Iโ€™m just looking for an excuse๐Ÿ˜…

Re: ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ˜Œ Mask of the Week Challenge ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ’–

@heartsmyface, you're so good! ๐Ÿค—

Re: ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ˜Œ Mask of the Week Challenge ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ’–

It's two J for J-Beauty masks and an artistic mask from last week!

J Beauty 1.png

Dr. Dermach Dancing Whale I'm Fine Moisturizing Mask:
Compromised, dull skin will find this mask to be just what the doctor (in this case Dr. Dermach) ordered. Hahaha! I reached for Dr. Dermach Dancing Whale I'm Fine Moisturizing Mask on an evening when my skin was particularly sensitive. Upon application, I immediately noticed how soothing and calming the mask felt. I experienced a slight and fleeting tingling, on the parts of my face that are typically sensitive, but it didn't cause any concern as it dissipated quickly. The cotton fiber mask is slightly thinner than your standard medium thick sheet mask and adhered well and comfortably for the entire half hour I wore the mask. Like most sheet masks, fit can be made to work and isn't a deal breaker. Nor is the added fragrance in this mask, though my preference would be that it is not present. Scent-wise, there's a very, very subtle and pleasant herbal and floral scent. Neither is overpowering or dominating; the floral scent seems like a general floral bouquet scent. After removing the mask and pressing in the extra essence that remained, my skin looked and felt soft and nourished. I went into this masking sesh without any expectations really. This was the first I've heard of this brand and my first artistic mask from last week. Great idea for a theme @Kim888! The whale art illustrated on the front of the packet was designed by visual artist Novo, who I read hoped to bring through his art work on these masks, brightness to modern people who are weary. A lovely sentiment.
Pure Smile Horse Oil Essence Mask Sheet (LE Hello Kitty edition):
Material: Medium-thick cotton mask with a bit more stretch to it than your typical sheet mask.

Essence: Clear, slightly viscous essence with a noticeable scent that seemed familiar to me but that I could not place. There's enough essence to cover but not saturate the mask; felt a little light on essence compared to most sheet masks I've used, including others from this brand.

Fit: This felt slightly larger (length and width-wise) compared to a standard sheet mask and included eye flaps. A better fit can be had with adjustments to the corners of the eyes and mouth.

Claim(s): Brings back elasticity and glow to tired skin; tightens and firms, and moisturizes.

Performance and Results: Slight tacky to the touch feel upon removing the mask and patting in the little essence that remains. The tack dissipates completely once the essence has been completely absorbed, leaving skin feeling moisturized and slightly bouncy.

My Two Cents: Pure Smile masks are the quintessential filler masks, good for daily masking. This one seemed maybe slightly more moisturizing than others from the line. As with other Pure Smile masks, while it's not one that I'd consider a "must have" masks, it's certainly one that I would hesitate to use again if I had it lying around.

Hair Oil: I first learned of the Sonbahyu Pure Horse Oil on this thread, from the fabulous @heartsmyface! I used it as as hair mask. Left it on for the entire time I had on the Hello Kitty Horse Oil mask and then washed it out. To my delight, my hair looked and felt soft and silky smooth; it felt moisturized without being weighed down. Will be incorporating this into my hair care routine.
Skin Inc. Pure Deepsea Hydrating Overnight Mask:
This clear gel feels cooling on my face, which lends itself to a nice soothing effect, making this a nice last step before crawling into bed and calling it a night. It claims to hydrate, clarify and brighten the skin overnight and I have to say that it does a fine job of it. I'm not sure why it took me so long to give this one a go; ohhhh, wait. I know why. Too many masks; just one face. Fortunately, the former is getting smaller and smaller, which is a good thing because the latter is what it is. Hahaha! If I didn't have more sleeping masks to work my way through, I would pick up a full size of Skin Inc. Pure Deepsea Hydrating Overnight Mask. For now, I'll add it to my list until it's time to add it to my collection.

Re: ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ˜Œ Mask of the Week Challenge ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ’–

@itsfi  Oooh, the Skin Inc mask sounds wonderful! I'm curious, does it have a scent? I have a feeling this is one I'll need to pick up soon! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

The hair oil sounds so nice! Never thought about using horse oil for hair - definitely something I need to try sometime!

Re: ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ˜Œ Mask of the Week Challenge ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ’–

Oh, good question @Shosh85Hold, please (queue music in the background while I grab the packet).

There is the very subtlest scent at the very beginning and then nothing. For a nanosecond, I thought I picked up a very, very, very slight scent of lychee (of all things). I was so surprised that I squeezed out another little bit and I did that 3 other times. Ha! It's very lightly, almost imperceptibly, fruity, but then I don't pick up anything when I go in for a second sniff.

From an ingredients perspective, no added fragrance. Here's what's listed on the brand's website for the sleeping mask. These are the same ingredients listed and in the same order, as on the back of my foil sample.

Water/Aqua/Eau, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Algae Extract, Natto Gum, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Potassium Hydroxide, Tetrasodium EDTA

Re: ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ˜Œ Mask of the Week Challenge ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ’–

@itsfi  Oh thank you! Yup, definitely sounds like something I *need* to buy! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Re: ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ˜Œ Mask of the Week Challenge ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ’–

@itsfi I love the skin inc brand!

Re: ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ˜Œ Mask of the Week Challenge ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ’–

Oooh, what products have you tried from the brand @lmaster? I have a few serums I want to go through but Iโ€™m definitely interested in exploring Skin Inc more. โ™ฅ๏ธ

Re: ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ˜Œ Mask of the Week Challenge ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ’–

Well,, my most favorite @itsfi is my daily dose of uplift, I've went through three bottles already ๐Ÿ˜† it seems to be disappearing from the sites I used to purchase it from,,, I hope they don't discontinue it ๐Ÿ™„

Re: ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ˜Œ Mask of the Week Challenge ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ’–

@lmaster, not the dreaded โ€œdโ€ word?!! The trend of discontinuing our faves needs to stop. ๐Ÿคช It looks like that serum is available direct from the brand and they have a โ€œsubscribe and saveโ€ feature too.

Re: ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ˜Œ Mask of the Week Challenge ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ’–

Oh that's awesome to know!! Thank you I did just recently buy a bottle for about $12 I think through boxycharm before I cancelled the sub @itsfi
