Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

@eshoe  I think potato is still my favorite "but...why" sheet mask ingredient. I mean, can I just smear mashed potatoes on my face instead? It'd give me a great excuse to eat a plate/bowl of mashed potatoes face-down, no utensils required. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Maybe with melted butter added (cooled down though; wouldn't wanna burn my face with hot butter) because hey, butter contains calcium and vitamin D and probably good-for-skin fats, right? Is gravy also skin-healthy? I bet mushroom gravy is! ๐Ÿคฃ

That does it: next Thanksgiving, I'm shoving my face into my plate in the name of science!

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

@WinglessOne Haha I should have scrolled a little further before commentating about potatoes.

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

@WinglessOne as I was reading this, I was thinking, hmmm...a really good, finely riced mashed potato mask just might be very, very comforting. I mean...now I want to try it just for scienceโ€™s sake!

Mushroom gravy? I donโ€™t think Iโ€™ve ever made that, but it sounds delicious. Are you cooking up NYE dinner? Curious what you have in mind;)

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

@eshoe  If you make a riced/mashed potato mask, you'll have to take a selfie for us!

You know, I hadn't given much thought to NYE dinner until this morning (eh, techically yesterday morning now that it's after midnight here) when I realized "oh crap, it's 12/30 and I need to restock the fridge!" I might just make a huge batch of japchae, one of my favorite comfort foods. That would cover a few different cultural representations of luck and prosperity: plenty of green and yellow (gold) stuff for money, red (bell peppers) for luck, etc. Haven't decided which wine to crack open, though, and it might not be a sparkler. Hmm. Do you have a special NYE meal planned?

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

I had not heard of japche and just googled it, @WinglessOne ...yum oh yum! I need to make that, soon, it looks delicious. Glass noddle stir fry, yes please๐Ÿฅฐ

I made lobster, first time ever. @sprocketta gave me a few tips, and thankfully everything turned out ok. Butternut squash risotto and roasted zucchini, with a side of smoked paprika garlic butter for sides. Just happy I didnโ€™t burn anything! Would love to see your japche if you make it, and a recipe (pretty please!), from the looks of it, itโ€™s something I need to try.

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

@WinglessOne, Maskingdom makes some great masks in my experience! ๐Ÿ˜ I have a couple from this line that I am looking forward to trying; will have to see if I have this bitter melon mask.

P.S. I'm really happy to hear your skin has healed. What great news!

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

@WinglessOne, I found ingredient lists in English for the serum and sheet mask online. I haven't looked through it in detail, but didn't see specific reference to 'bitter melon' but it could be under a different name.

Ingredients (copied from samplestore (dot) com):

Spoiler

Serum Ingredients: Aquaใ€Glycerinใ€Methylpropanediolใ€Arginine, Aquaใ€Niacinamideใ€Jojoba Wax PEG-120 Estersใ€Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerinใ€Chlorphenesinใ€Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymerใ€Allantoinใ€Aqua ,Glycerin,Vigna Aconitifolia Seed Extract,Sodium Citrateใ€Sodium Hyaluronat[e]

Mask Ingredients: Aquaใ€Propylene glycolใ€Butylene Glycolใ€Glycerinใ€Xanthan Gumใ€Phenoxyethanol, 2-Bromo-2-Nitropropane-1,3-Diol, Iodopropynyl butylcarbamateใ€Chlorphenesinใ€Aqua, Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Basillus/Soybean/Folic Acid Ferment Extract, Sodium Hyaluronateใ€PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oilใ€Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymerใ€Aqua, F agus sylvatica Extractใ€Sclerotium Gumใ€Sodium Hyaluronateใ€Fragrance

NOTE: I added an 'e' to sodium hyaluronate in the ingredients list for serum and also added a space to the fourth to last ingredient in the ingredients list for the mask so that it would post.

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

Thanks @itsfi ! That looks like the same English listing I saw on a couple other retailers' sites, and it's very close to the English printed on the back of the mask sleeve. But it omits all the Chinese language ingredients. (Bitter melon is definitely one of the Chinese language ingredients; a second pass through Google Translate confirmed that for me. ๐Ÿ™‚ ) I wonder why the ingredients are printed in 2 languages... I mean, the rest of the sleeve being in 2 languages doesn't bother me at all, but there are INCI standards, dang it.

And yeah, I was overjoyed the first night in 5 weeks I exfoliated. "Yay, I can finally exfoliate againโ€”with an AHA, evenโ€”and my skin's not ticked off about it!" ๐Ÿคฃ I gotta say, after such a long time with an extremely simple routine, I've gotten very used to the efficiency, especially at night. It's helping me pare down my overall routine, though my AM routine's always been fairly short. Anyway, it's great to have a healthy skin barrier again!

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

I would be on board for uniform INCI standards @WinglessOne

Simple, back-to-basics skincare routines are fantastic! Our skin doesn't always need all the extra bells and whistles. Ahhh, a healthy skin barrier! โค๏ธ

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

Ohhhh that is such a pretty sleeve! @WinglessOne sounds really good despite not knowing

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

This certainly takes the cake for most suspenseful mask session read, @WinglessOne! Welcome back, you definitely got my attention with this one;)

The artwork, stunning. I am thinking what a gorgeous scarf that sleeve would make. The ingredients...I think they call that risk loving? The pigeon pea sounded questionable but from what I just read, like it might be a beneficial addition (and also very easy to grow; according to one site, planting depth is โ€˜whatever.โ€™ Sounds like my kind of gardening).

I was so relieved to reach the end and hear you did not suffer any adverse reactions, especially given such unique ingredients. Thanks for sharing the photo of your haul here, I missed that and they all are gorgeous. Very happy to have you back๐Ÿค—

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

@WinglessOne  The packaging art drew me in, but I loved your review.  I totally thought you wouldn't like it after the ingredient fiasco, but hey... I guess risks pay off sometimes eh!

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

Thanks @missjeanie !  ๐Ÿ™‚ Risk is definitely rewarding sometimes.

Maskingdom/10 Art worked with Taiwanese artists on the packaging and it's all so gorgeous. They won an award for this set's packaging, and I'm sure some of their other sets are award winners. Here's the outer box (reposting from one of the monthly hauls threads):

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

@WinglessOne I'm such a sucker for good packaging.  That marine jewel mask looks so pretty too!

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

Adding one in for favorite masks, I can see this one becoming an all-time โค๏ธ

Spoiler
Bubbling wash-off masks are some of my all-time favorites (love this theme, @itsfi!). The belif Pore Cleaner Bubble Foam 3.38 oz/ 100 mL is first place in my book, but this Pacifica Crystal Lava is excellent and even has a slight watermelon scent.

The ID Real After Care Bio Mask is a biocellose, form-fitting unscented soothing sheet mask. It is chock-full of good ingredients like centella asiatica, Houttuynia Cordata (anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial) and sea whip extract. From Paulaโ€™s Choice, the latter is is a best ingredient, โ€œExtract from a creature (Pseudopterogorgia elisabethae) that inhabits coral reefs, known for its skin-soothing properties, which makes it useful for all skin types, especially sensitive or redness-prone skin.โ€

I have used this one a few times, and every time has been pleasant. Skin is soothed and not at all tacky to the touch. There is plenty of serum, a just-right consistency that isnโ€™t too thick yet doesnโ€™t drip off of the mask while wearing it. I am happy to have a few in band for when my skin is angry or I need a no-nonsense mask that I know will be gentle in my skin!

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

@eshoe  This sounds like a perfect mask duo! I love that the Pacifica has a watermelon scent! ๐Ÿ˜‹

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

Me too, @Shosh85 - and @lmaster informed me that there is a pineapple one as well! That is on my summer agenda ๐Ÿ™‚

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

@eshoe, the watermelon scent on the Pacifica bubble mask sounds nice. Is the mask tinted when you apply it?

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

Yes, itโ€™s a deep charcoal gray, @itsfi. This photo is from when I first used it:

It lightens the longer you wear it, becoming a soft, foamy, light gray cloudโ˜๏ธ

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

@eshoe ohhhh that sounds interesting!! Creature from the black lagoon,,, wait I mean coral reefs ๐Ÿ˜†

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

Ha @lmaster yes I was playing Ursula for sure๐Ÿ˜‚
