Thank you @Aaliaa for starting this thread, and giving us a place to share our love for masks๐Ÿ’—

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

lol, when I use one of the steam masks I kinda smush it into my eye sockets too @Weetart , good technique.

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

That's a super cute set! @Weetart

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

@Weetart  The watermelon eye mask is adorable! I have the avocado one, and that one's pretty cute too! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Looks like you have a nice evening routine!

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

Nice @Shosh85  ! I used to have the avocado one but gave it to my mother last year in a mask gift basket. She had an avacado tree for eons and I thought, "oooh, don't be a horder Weetart... give it to your mother."

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

That GR watermelon eye mask is adorable @Weetart! ๐Ÿ˜ The mask itself smells so good.

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

It does! @itsfi  I'm nearly done with my jar. *sob*

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

W is for weekend masking
D is for dry skin deterrent
AvocaDO.jpg
In addition to being tasty on toast, avocaDOs help soften, moisturize and protect the skin. The oil from an AvocaDO contains a host of good-for-the-skin ingredients, including beta carotene, lecithin and vitamins A, D (another D for the week) and E, making it a winner (and another W!) in the fight against dryness. AvocaDOs are also delicious, wouldn't you agree? (I know @Samtian๐Ÿ˜‰) Most of these avocado goodies have made an appearance or two in my posts on the masking threads over the years so I won't wax on too long about them again.

Spoiler
Missy Kay Avocado Mask claims to moisturize and firm the skin. The thickness of the cotton mask is what I consider standard for sheet masks and like most sheet masks, it can and does hold quite a bit of essence, which in this case, is best described as cool, fresh, light, watery and scented like perfume. My initial reaction was that it reminded me of a more modern, less woodsy take on Nina Ricci's L'Air du Temps. When it comes to firming claims, I'm not convinced one use is enough for a sound review. My skin did feel hydrated and moisturized thanksin part to the glycerin, avocado and sesame seed extract, and my complexion looked brightened as well, which I attribute to the licorice root extract in this this mask. The mask performed well and is one I would happily use again.

I was introduced to the world of hair masks and specifically Garnier Fructis hair masks from our lovely @Shosh85. It started with the papaya version and to the surprise of probably no one, morphed into my picking up all of the hair masks in the Garnier Fructis line, including the Garnier Fructis Smoothing Treat One Minute Hair Mask + Avocado Extract, a light, thin and very strong though not lingering perfume scented cream that can be used as a hair mask or leave-in conditioner. I tend to use this as a leave-in on days when I'm just too lazy to rinse it out of my hair. Consistency-wise, I feel like this mask is a hybrid of a traditional conditioner and hair mask, but not heavy so it doesn't make my hair look or feel weighed down. My hair looks and feels soft, smooth and nourished.

Glow Recipe Avocado Melt Sleeping Mask is a favorite of mine and sadly for me, this has long since been reformulated to include retinol. The addition of retinol probably makes it an even more effective sleeping mask for most people, but since my skin has historically been highly sensitive to it, I've steered clear of the reformulated version. It's alright. There are other sleeping masks out there so I'll have plenty to choose from once I finish with this jar.

The name of the Whole Foods Cotton Cupra Mask Soothing Avocado says it all.  The cotton cupra material of this mask is soaked in a thin, watery, non-lingering tea-tree oil scented essence, adheres beautifully, wears comfortably and requires the usual adjustments as most sheet masks for a better fit for my face size and shape - a few snips here and there at the chin/jawline and to the corners of the eyes and mouth. Half an hour of wear yields wonderful results after some very slight tingling at the very beginning - clear, brightened and lightly hydrated skin that felt cool even after removing the mask.

Skinfood Avocado Lip Scrub and Skinfood Avocado Olive Lip Balm - I had, actually, have another version of these items that are shaped like an avocado. I have a feeling they may have been added to a little someone's toy box. I'll have to look through the box and take them back before she discovers they're gone. lol. These are fine products; not holy grail but they do a nice job. The balm has a very thin texture and I find it works best to soften lips before applying lipstick. It's too thin to keep lips moisturized overnight but it leaves lips soft and lightly hydrated, making it a nice choice for a good lip prep.

Kiehl's Avocado Nourishing Hydration Face Mask has a lot of things going for it conceptually, but its texture and how challenging it is to work with make it a miss for me. I've been able to come up with a workaround to make the mask easier to apply and wear by mixing it with The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, but that's more work that I'm willing to put in for it. There's someone out there or here for whom the Kiehl's avocado mask will be ideal; that's just not me.

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

@itsfi Oh yuckycados. That looks so gross bleh haha.

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

Lol @Samtian! ๐Ÿ˜† I always laugh at how your autocorrect turns avocados ๐Ÿฅ‘ into yuckycados. Hahaha! We have to get that fixed immediately, samtian! ๐Ÿ˜‚ A New Yearโ€™s resolution, perhaps?! ๐Ÿคช

Iโ€™m sorry, I forgot - are you allergic to the avocaDO or do you not like the texture of it?

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

@itsfi HAHAHA. I don't like anything about it. It tastes gross, it looks gross, it feels gross.

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

@Samtian!!! Now your autotune is turning "good" to "gross"! My goodness, this is going to require a major fix! Hahahaha! ๐Ÿคฃ

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

@itsfi Lol it's hard headed like me.

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

@itsfi  Mmmm your toast looks amazing!!! You have a great lineup!! I love the GR mask!!

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

Thank you @ather! ๐Ÿค— Avocados are just great all around - soft, moisturized skin and a happy tummy. ๐Ÿ˜

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

That Missy Kay mask is a good one, @itsfi! Your toast looks delicious, much healthier than the gummy butterflies I am currently snacking on๐Ÿ˜† Such a pleasing photo, too.

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

@eshoe @itsfi Nope the gummies are better. The yuckycado looks like baby body fluids from both ends yuck yuck yuck.

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

Oh my goodness! How do you come up with these things @Samtian?!! ๐Ÿ˜† Too funny! Go avocaDO!! ๐Ÿฅ‘๐Ÿฅ‘๐Ÿฅ‘

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

@itsfi Haha I have no idea. They just pop into my head.

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

@Samtian Hey why not blend the two together?
