๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ˜Œ Mask of the Week Challenge ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ’–

Itโ€™s May, Hurray! ๐ŸŒธ We are almost 1/2-way through this yearโ€™s challenge๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

Thank you @Aaliaa for starting this thread, and giving us a place to share our love for masks๐Ÿ’— Post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcome.

This Weekโ€™s Theme: Masks that Make You Hungry ๐Ÿ˜‹Is it the scent..or the packaging? Which masks make you crave a yummy treat? It is no surprise that this weekโ€™s delicious theme is brought to you by none other than @itsfi! ๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿฉ๐Ÿฏ๐Ÿต

Mask of the Week Misc. Info & Previous Year's Links:

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas.

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

The Gastropods!!!  I love this one @itsfi !  I can be in this band?  I can't sing. And I can't play an instrument.  Maybe I could be a groupie?

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

I've always just assumed you were part of The Gastropods @missjeanie๐Ÿ˜ I'm sure we can find you a musical instrument to play. A zipper can be a musical instrument, as can your hands.

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

@itsfi  The Gastropods! I love it so much! Do you have a favorite snail sheet mask?

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

A favorite snail mask @PrettyPaint? I don't know if I have just one. ๐ŸŒ Ones I'm currently loving are:

Jin Jung Sung x CrediThink Snail Honey Jelly Mask@Shosh85 introduced me to this and I love it - snail + honey + jelly serum, yes please! I love that you can pick this up on amazon too!

JMsolution Active Pink Snail Brightening Mask Prime - this mask is a recent discovery and a new love; I picked it up a few at a local Asian beauty boutique pre-covid. It was more I went in a few times and somehow ended up picking up this mask each time. My mistake will come in handy. lol.

Etude House 0.2mm Therapy Air Mask - love how thin the material is and it's affordable

Leaders Snail Therapy Skin Clinic Mask

TonyMoly has two lines with snail masks I like - one is the Master Lab line and the other is the Prestige Jeju line

Tosowoong, CosRxMissha and Naruko also have snail masks that I really like as well.

Yadah Collagen Mask (it's got snail in it)

Any of the snail sheet masks from the Elensilia Intracell brand have been good to my skin.

Just typing this out makes me think I could do a month's worth of masking with a bunch of different snail masks if I wanted to. Hmmm.... ๐Ÿค”

Do you have snail masks that you like?

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

@itsfi  Oh my goodness - this list is perfect. Thanks so much for listing all that out. I didn't mean to ask such a long question! ๐Ÿ™‚

I feel like I haven't tried as many snail masks as I would like, but they are so, so nice. I think the one I recall liking a lot is Missha's Super Aqua Cell Renew Snail Hydro Gel Mask. I liked the yadah too. I'm seriously going to go through your list and try some of these, though. That CrediThink one sounds awesome - I think I'll add that to my next amazon order!!

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

Not a problem @PrettyPaint; happy to help. ๐Ÿค— It was a good opportunity for me to look at my masks and think about which snail ones I've been enjoying. ๐ŸŒ It also made me go through my skincare bin and I think I may be able to put together a routine centered on l'escargot! ๐ŸŒ I've never done a full routine with snail products (or having the majority of my routine be snail mucin based) but I think my skin would love it; thank you so much for inspiring that. ๐Ÿ˜

Oh, I forgot to add the It's Skin also makes a couple of snail mucin masks that I love; both are part of the brand's Prestige collection - one is a 2-step, with a sheet mask and undereye gel patches, and the other is a mask that contains snail mucin and ginseng.

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

The Gastropods is a great one! The Escar Go Goโ€™s popped in my head after you saying that. Not nearly as good. @itsfi

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

I like Escar Go Got too @Weetart !!  I picture a 60's throwback group in shiny pink dresses, big beehive hair and white go go boots.  Always wanted white go go boots....

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

"Always wanted white go go boots...."

Do it @missjeanie! ๐Ÿ˜† It could be part of your fashion resolutions for 2021.

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

Bahahaha @itsfi I'm not too sure I could quite pull them off.... never know though... never know.

Re: Mask of the Week Challenge

@Weetart, The Escar Go Go's is an awesome name. ๐Ÿ˜  Super fun! It's just as good if not better than The Gastropods. I actually like The Escar Go Go's more - it has more whimsy and pizzazz to it. ๐ŸŒ

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

The rainbow theme mask challenge is one of my favorites, courtesy of the genius mastermind of the fabulous @sonnydee๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿค— I'm a little behind in getting to all the masks I set aside for this week's challenge theme so some of them will run over to the next week or so, as ROY G. BIV week is undergoing a redesign this year in my house, thanks to the only family member who truly appreciates my love of hauls and all things beauty and fashion related - my niece tells me that there are actually 2 more colors than the Roy G. Biv 7! In addition to red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet, there's . . . wait for it . . .

pink and sparkle! ๐ŸŒˆ ๐Ÿ’—โ‡๏ธโœจ

We'll start off with red and the rest of the rainbow masks this and next week will probably mix in another past challenge theme, with random colors selected as inspiration for my masks.

Starting out the rainbow theme with a couple of red masks.Starting out the rainbow theme with a couple of red masks.

I've used both these masks before; in fact, I might have used the Yadah Red Heating Foil Mask for last year's rainbow theme week as well. Heating foil masks are intended to create a sauna-like moisturizing effect, the idea being that the thin foil on the outside of the mask and the soft, likely cotton material on the inside of the mask create a barrier to prevent the essence from evaporating, thus allowing the active ingredients in the essence to penetrate into the skin more effectively. It's not like a sauna in the traditional sense where your skin feels hot; maybe the analogy to the sauna is meant more like the infrared saunas. In any event, a good bit of the unscented essence remains after the recommended 20-minutes; there's also extra of the slightly viscous essence in the packet. I've kept this mask on for up to 40 minutes before without it being fully absorbed by the time I remove the mask. Hard for me to say for certain whether the essence absorbed deeper into my skin. My knee jerk assessment would be not really. Personally, I think an essence absorbs more effectively based more on whether I've exfoliated my skin beforehand than on the foil combination, but I haven't put that to the test (hmmm . . . perhaps a future experiment for me, or someone else here). My skin, however, did look and feel hydrated and nourished afterwards, with a subtle fresh brightness to it. ๐Ÿ’– The mask itself is very pretty (see spoiler for pic).

Wash Off + Lip Balm

I used the Eminence Organic Skin Care Sour Cherry Masque last month, so I won't spend too long reviewing it here. The scent on this, on all Eminence masks really, is wonderful! Cherry pie filling without the calories. ๐Ÿ˜ And my skin is left slightly brightened and moisturized. I'm coming around to the SEPHORA COLLECTION Clean Lip Balm & Scrub Cherry - it's definitely a lip balm and not a scrub, at least the one I have. Maybe that means I need to pick up another one to confirm? ๐Ÿ˜€ Since I've been reaching for it more frequently, I notice it's become easier to apply, feels more smooth and slightly moisturizing on the lips and I do love the tint it leaves behind.

Looking forward to seeing everyone's masks for this week's rainbow theme.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@itsfi looking forward to seeing your rainbow of masking. The Yadah masks sounds wonderful.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Thank you @ladyassassin! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Iโ€™m not sure about the sauna like effect that most foil masks tout but they do hydrate my skin pretty well and my always dehydrated loves that! ๐Ÿ’–

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Ah I forgot about this Eminence mask since you last reviewed it, @itsfi. Heading off to check it out, it sounds yummy! We made pie pops today and didnโ€™t have proper filling so the younger one suggested chocolate chips and marshmallows. Cherry ๐Ÿ’ is one filling I need to have on hand:)

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Pie pops @eshoe? Iโ€™ve made cake pops, years ago, but must have missed pie pops. Hmmm ... concerning that I missed a dessert phenomena. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Eminence masks are great. Iโ€™m contemplating moving in that direction for the majority of my wash off mask collection. Which, given the number of masks they have, could be dangerous. ๐Ÿ˜

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Yes, it seemed a little iffy to me, @itsfi! It was a recipe from an American Girl magazine and it was...interesting. The taste was there, and it helped pass the afternoon. Iโ€™ve had to limit baked goods to at least every other day, though ๐Ÿ˜„

Which direction are you referring to with masks? Also, if you have tried their Kale one, I would love to know if itโ€™s worth a buy.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

I donโ€™t think Iโ€™ve tried the Eminence kale mask @eshoe. Or, not that I remember - itโ€™s entirely possible that the aesthetician used it on me and I donโ€™t recall it; I very often fall asleep during my facials. I know she likes to layer various masks, usually 2, sometimes 3, depending on my skinโ€™s needs, during the facial.

Oh, by direction of masks, I just meant using more Eminence masks more frequently in my masking routine as far as non-sheet masks go.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Layering masks, that sounds like a thirst-quencher for the skin @itsfi! I tried a brief search but of course now the results are about the right filters to use for PPEโ€™s. Not quite what I am looking for๐Ÿ˜†

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Ohhh @eshoe, this "new normal" is also affecting our online search results. Try the following searches:

  • "Eminence" and "You Need to Know About Double Masking"; or
  • "Refinery29" and "Double-Masking Is The New Double-Cleansing"

This should weed out results for PPE filters. ๐Ÿ˜‰
