Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

😂🤣😂 @Shosh85, I know! The best I can come up with is that they went for a 31-day month with an extra one in case of user error or they are allowing for only one instance where 2 sheet masks were stuck together. 😆 I get the ones that give you a 5-day pack (for the work week) or a 7-day pack (full week), but I've come across some interesting arrangements. lol. I've used the Lululuns before, a few different series and for me, I personally prefer the Lululuns, primarily because the Lululun masks are more saturated in essence (and my dehydrated skin finds happiness in that) and the scent is more pleasing to me. Lululun has daily mask packs that come with 32 and 36 sheets, similar to this Saborino one. In terms of packaging for the month-long masks, I prefer the Saborino design because it's more secure, but that only becomes an issue if I'm traveling with a month-long pack.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

An overnight mask and its side-kick to match:

The alpyn beauty Wild Huckleberry 8-Acid Polishing Peel Mask sounds a little intimidating, especially for dry skin. I did a patch test first, something I never do, but need to make practice. Besides the heavy-duty exfoliating (though it claims to be safe to use daily), the prospect of a strongly scented mask had me questioning whether or not it would be a good fit. But, yay! While it is touted as unscented, I detected a bit of a ‘campfire’ hint that I notice with Charlotte Tilbury Goddess Clay Mask 2.54 oz/ 75 mL. That, mixed with a bit of plastic? Anyhow, it’s very slight and dissipated once applied.
The granules are tiered; there are smaller, sugar crystal sized ones along with more sparse larger ones. I applied and rinsed very carefully so as not to put my skin into shock lol. Instructions state to leave on for five minutes, and based on my patch test, felt it would be okay to proceed as directed. I promptly removed with my The Original MakeUp Eraser Watermelon MakeUp Eraser and checked for any signs of irritation or redness. None, which was a pleasant surprise! My skin felt quite soft, I might even say baby soft. Next time I use Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial™ AHA + BHA Mask 1.69 oz/ 50 mL I want to pay close attention to how similar they are in results. I can’t wait to use this one again, but feel I should be cautious so as to not over stimulate my skin barrier.

The detoskin Celery Cleanse Mask is the second I’ve tried from this brand, and of the two, my favorite. A light clean scent-fresher and softer than the Kale one. Fit seemed better, too. Only a teeny-tiny bit of tack after removing (it began to dry so I had to remove around 20 minutes). My skin looked/felt ok, though slightly drier than I would like post-sheet mask. I would use it again, but no need to seek it out or repurchase.

Finally, after the alpyn beauty PlantGenius® Melt Moisturizer with Bakuchiol, I followed up with the alpyn beauty Calming Sleeping Mask with Melatonin & Wild Dandelion . My skin never feels dry after this combo, and has a nice glow in the AM. The moisturizer is a bit of a pain as it never ever absorbs quickly; there is quite a bit of gently coaxing it in, but once it does, the sleeping mask goes on effortlessly. Thanks to the easy dispenser I find myself using it more than any other sleeping mask, despite the strong scent - which I’ve come around to, and even look forward to now☺️

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@eshoe Great reviews.  The calming sleep mask is one I'd love to try.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Thank you @tjffc ☺️ I feel like the sleeping mask might be a little polarizing with the strong scent and heavily-loaded extract/oil ingredient list. My skin LOVES all things bakuchiol, so if yours does too, and those ingredient bother your skin - it might be a love! This is definitely a sample first product, in my mind, just in case😉

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@eshoe  Thanks for such detailed reviews. The alpyn beauty products sound really nice, particularly the mask with the pump. I actually haven't seen skincare products with melatonin, but it makes sense that topical use would have some nice anti-inflammatory benefits.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

You are so kind, @PrettyPaint 🤗 Yes the pump is a HUGE plus, contributing to my frequent use of it. I am trying out an eye product right now and love it, but am thinking why isn’t this in a pump?!?! As much as I am loving it, probably won’t buy because using a jar for an eye product is a little risky for me, with contacts. Pumps = 💗😊

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@eshoe that's like the strawberry mask I used, there were bits of strawberry, but not all throughout,, like literally the perfect amount

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Oh interesting @lmaster!  Little surprises are always fun, this was a good one and your sounds exceptional 😊

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@eshoe that resurfacing mask sounds really interesting! I'll totally be interested in hearing the comparison to the DE!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@Kim888 I’m always secretly looking for a dupe for the DE, you never know when something will be reformulated or discontinued. It’s hard to beat that one, too!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@eshoe  Well, it sounds like I need to look into Alpyn beauty products! Happy to hear everything is working out great so far!

I agree, the 8 acid peel sounds intimidating! I'm glad it didn't cause any irritation! I feel like that's one that would be easy for me to over-use, especially with those results! I'll be super interested to hear how it compares with the DE Babyfacial! 👍

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@Shosh85 the Alpyn mask was gentler on my skin than other acid/resurfacing masks I’ve used! I do have to say it’s best to be cautious. A heavy hand with this might be very detrimental for dehydrated/very dry skin. I feel a little disappointed in a 5-minute mask (I’d rather keep it in for half an hour) but if the results are there, I’m all for it.

As for their other products, just be forewarned of the scent-its strong! And the absorption is sloooooow. But I’ve already purchased a backup of the sleeping mask now that I’m half-way through😄

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

This one is not on theme, but I really wanted to try it out

Oh my gosh!! This is one I will purchase after trying this sample. It is a thicker pink cream with bits of strawberry to exfoliate. I lathered this on my face and waited about 15 minutes. The scent is out of this world!!! I think most of you know I'm a sucker for delicious scents and this one is ahhhhmazing!! I took my damp makeup eraser and removed the mask, my skin felt so extremely soft and hydrated!! Winner winner!!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@lmaster  Oh nice! This one certainly does sound amazing! So happy to hear you loved it! It's funny, I was tempted to get this one, but I'm not a fan of rhubarb so I just couldn't 😂 I'll be going back and ordering more samples once I get through the first round, so I'll probably pick it up then. 👍

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@Shosh85 oh my gosh!! Strawberry ice cream.... strawberry frosting.... 😋

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Oooooh, this one does smell amazing @lmaster! ♥️ It makes me think of this strawberry rhubarb cupcake that was a special offering from a cupcake truck near an old work site. 🍓🧁 I know, food is always close to my mind. Especially when it comes to masks, it seems. 😂 Eminence also makes a strawberry rhubarb exfoliating powder.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@itsfi trust me,,, it took everything in me to convince my brain it's not edible!!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@lmaster ugh I saw @Shosh85’s haul about these samples and I was soooooo envious of you two! Strawberry rhubarb pie is one of my favorites, I can only imagine how delicious this must be 💕🤩

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Oh my goodness!!! @eshoe it was so hard to convince myself,,, this is not frosting!!! 🤣

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

After several weeks of babying my skin, I did 2 very stupid things early this month that made my face a big ol’ mess.

I introduced tranexamic acid ( The INKEY List Tranexamic Acid Hyperpigmentation Treatment 1 oz/ 30 mL ) too soon after increasing retinol frequency from every other night to nightly. I’d intended to apply tranexamic acid only to my forehead and hairline during the intro period, so I thought I’d be okay. And I might’ve been, had I not done stupid thing number 2.

One night, without thinking about it, I applied tranexamic acid to my entire face, including my undereyes. Later in my PM routine, I layered retinol over everything. My sensitive oily zone and undereyes were 100% unamused. You’d think that would teach me a hard lesson but nope, I mindlessly did the exact same thing 2 nights later. 🤦‍♀️ Autopilot gone awry.

How bad was it? Well, I don't have photos of the initial damage when my face looked its worst, but here's a photo I took tonight. The redness has greatly subsided, but you can see how inflamed my undereyes still are. 😞 That skin's also starting to flake and peel, which isn't a bad thing in this instance.

"Oh, you have a red undertone!" No, I have surface redness + inflammation issues. It looks so much better in this photo than it did earlier this month, thank goodness. In real life, I kinda look like I'm recovering from black eyes. :( But still, it's an improvement!"Oh, you have a red undertone!" No, I have surface redness + inflammation issues. It looks so much better in this photo than it did earlier this month, thank goodness. In real life, I kinda look like I'm recovering from black eyes. 😞 But still, it's an improvement!

Oh hey, see those short dark spots/splotches on my neck? Those are chemical burn scars. They happened after I used an exfoliant containing citrus extracts a few months ago. This is why I generally avoid citrus extracts and oils on my face and neck. It's very volatile stuff!

Result: large bright red patches of bumpy burning woe. I’ve mentioned my surface redness and my skin’s inflammation issues before but wow, those missteps threw my face into a tailspin. I couldn’t even apply cream moisturizer without my skin burning like I’d applied way too much glycolic acid without neutralization. I’ve spent most of October trying to calm everything down. That means more extremely picky repeat masking.

So in terms of masking, October is brought to you by CBD, oatmeal, and good ol' petrolatum (and mineral oil).

Will definitely reuse this photo for the October Favorites thread. :DWill definitely reuse this photo for the October Favorites thread. 😄

I’ve used The Inkey List Oat Cleansing Balm a lot as a PM 10-minute mask this month. My angry painful skin has greatly appreciated its soothing and moisturizing abilities. I’ve talked about this balm at least a couple times in this thread so I won’t repeat myself, but it’s one of my favorite multifunctional things ever.

I’ve also used my dear old friend Herbivore Emerald CBD Oil as an overnight mask many nights this month. I’ve kept up with retinol, applying it 6 nights in a row and giving my skin 1 night off to help it recover. A thin layer of CBD oil over retinol (which I apply over my cream moisturizer) has been a huge help, especially where my skin is most irritated. My undereyes no longer burn, hooray!

A few nights a week, I’ve applied a thin layer of either Aquaphor Ointment or CeraVe Healing Ointment to my undereyes and oily zone. Aquaphor contains lanolin which my skin’s usually not angry about. But as raw and extra tender as my undereyes have been lately, I’ve found the CeraVe ointment works better with less irritation on that skin, while Aquaphor’s still worked well on my irritated oily zone. So I guess you could say I’ve used both ointments as overnight masks on specific parts of my face.

These aren’t the only products I’ve used on my skin to reduce inflammation, but they’re the ones that most qualify as “masking.” 🙂 I'm very much steady-as-she-goes with these products until my skins' healed enough for more new-to-me mask adventures.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@WinglessOne  Oh man! I'm so sorry to hear your skin is giving you a hard time! Looks like you got a nice routine going! Love the Emerald Oil! Hope your skin heals in a jiffy! 🤞
