Hello March ☘️ 🌈, moving right along in 2021!
Thank you @Aaliaa for starting this thread, and giving us a place to share our love for masks💗 Post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcome.
This Week’s Theme: Female-Owned Brands - in honor of International Women’s Day, and courtesy of our wonderful Mask of the Week Challenge OP, @Aaliaa (we 💖 you!)

Mask of the Week Misc. Info & Previous Year's Links:
To Post:
Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas.
Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.
Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Yeah, me too @WinglessOne, but I don’t know if I want to go through the effort to isolate which type kelp/algae/seaweed my skin doesn’t respond well to. 😬 Fortunately, whatever irritation it brings has subsided quickly, but I’m not looking to test that too much. So far, seaweed / kelp masks are a no go. I’ll cross reference ingredients in those masks at some point. We’ll see if I decide to be adventurous again when it comes to that ingredient in a sheet mask (or other skincare), but for now, any seaweed for me will be in food form, and I’m okay with that. 😉😆
Two More Glam&Glow Masks
111 Skin Rose Gold Brightening Facial Treatment Mask
With actual gold, this brightening mask claims to brighten your skin for that glow. I think I've reviewed this mask before, but I have a box and they're expiring mid next year and I'm likely getting another box in a sub box, so thought I'd use for the theme. I was going to use one for my doctorate convocation this year, but alas, that did not happen, so I had an "extra" special occasion one. Friday's mask as Friday is a brightening mask night.
Clarins Masque-Serum Liftant 1 oz/ 30 mL
An even more expensive mask that I also received from a sub box. Liftant or lifting mask shape due to the ear holds for face and neck. Saturday nights are for firming masks.
@haleyvvvv The 111 Skin mask sounds nice! It's great you didn't have to pay full price to try it! The mask would have to do a heck of a lot to get me pay that much for it!
I'm not, opposed, per se, but definitely wary of paying so much for sheet masks @Shosh85. It is A LOT, though, so I'd always hope they're so much better than ones that are $10, which is even a lot.
@haleyvvvv I'm just super cheap 😂 I've never spent more than $6 for a mask and really try to stay in $3 or less category. Although, knowing me and my FOMO, if there's an expensive mask that people are constantly raving about, I'd probably break down and buy it 🤣
@haleyvvvv Sorry these didn’t work out too well for you. Those ear loops look very uncomfortable. Congrats on getting your doctorate, but I’m sorry you didn’t get to have the ceremony.
Yeah, those ear loops weren't the worst, but they weren't great, I think I took them off halfway through, @PrettyPaint.
Thank you!! In the grand scheme of things its not the worst, but I was looking forward to my silly gown and the whole pomp.
I feel like I keep seeing some mid and low level grades - you're due for an awesome one @haleyvvvv!
Haha, @ShortErica, I'm just so picky with sheet masks, and I pulled out a bunch the past few weeks (gotta get through that stash...also, they easy to wear when tired). I'm sure the next one will be a winner.
So true about getting through your stash @haleyvvvv!
that's so disappointing!! @haleyvvvv for the price tag,,I would expect better
Same, @lmaster, but at least I got them in a sub box and didn't buy them outright. If I did, I probably would've scored even lower.
@haleyvvvv Sorry these were both subpar. Clarins has a patent for harungana madagascariensis extract as an anti-aging skincare ingredient. I haven't read through it, but now I'm curious about any testing they did. I have a different 111 Skin mask and you just reminded me I haven't used it yet. (Note to self!)
Also, assuming your PhD graduation didn't happen because of covid: congratulations!
The B+ for the 111skin is actually pretty good, @WinglessOne, I just took price into account and its not worth the sticker price.
Yes, it was canceled for covid reasons, thank you!!
O = olive and L = c’mon, you didn’t expect me to let an L week pass without a LuLuLun mask. Tonight’s session was the LuLuLun Premium Shodo Island Olive mask. This one's new to me.
This is one of LLL's single-sheet sleeves.
Earlier tonight I opened a bottle of 2015 Uccelliera Brunello di Montalcino for dinner, so I decided to have a glass while masking. (Yeah, I opened it a few years too soon, but I’ve got more bottles in storage. If you're a sangiovese fan, this one's fantastic.) I should start sharing what I'm drinking with each mask. It's not always wine. Sometimes it's tea, a homemade smoothie, or flavored water. Other times, it's bourbon or beer. 🤣 If I could get into a morning mask routine, it'd be coffee.
Brunellos are great partners for tomato-based pasta dishes.
Notes:
Claims: Improves elasticity, moisture, and firmness; provides glowing brightened skin.
Ingredients: Here’s a case where the star ingredient is near the end of the list. I don’t know offhand the efficacy of olive leaf extract at low percentages, but I do wish it was listed higher. Phytosteryl/octyl dodecyl lauroyl is an emollient registered as ELDEW® and claimed to be as effective as a ceramide. That plus dimethicone and squalane should make this mask very moisturizing. And I’m always happy to see rice lees included in a mask as a skin brightener. I recommend applying some sort of humectant and/or hydrating layer beneath nearly any sheet mask (even just plain ol' water), but especially under a mask like this that can act as a sealing moisturizer.
Performance: This is LLL’s older style soft and stretchy sheet with eye flaps and tall nose slits. 2 simple inner corner snips were all the tailoring needed. Stretching to cover nearly my whole jaw was easy, so I didn't need to cut off the eye flaps and repurpose them to cover exposed skin.
The lotion serum was completely scentless and very well distributed throughout the sheet. I poured a handful of extra serum from the sleeve and rubbed most of it over the sheet on my face, then massaged the rest into my hands and neck. This is not a cooling mask at all; it felt almost warming on my face. I lost track of time and wore it for 35 minutes. Lots of serum was left on the surface of my face and I honestly wasn’t sure it’d all penetrate my skin. So I wiped some of it off with the back of my hands, massaged that into my hands, and then massaged what remained on my face into my skin which, surprisingly, took just a couple minutes. I had no pilling afterward and no real tackiness… eh, just the typical post-moisturizer tack.
Results: Baby soft skin with a mild healthy-looking glow. My face felt so moisturized, I didn’t apply a moisturizer to most of my face after using this mask. I just spread a little Aquaphor on the sides of my nose (the part of my oily zone I’ve babied for weeks), my undereyes, and my brow bones. I also didn’t need any additional cream or lotion on my hands; they felt and looked soooo soft and moisturized! Even now, I can't stop occasionally rubbing fingers on the backs of my hands. 😂 Makes me wish I'd saved the excess serum to use later as a full body moisturizer. Will probably do that with the remaining 4 masks.
The Uccelliera Brunello has more acidity and lively spicy fruit (cherry, blackberry, currant, spice, and a bit of meatiness) than I’d associate with this mask. A better choice would’ve been a velvety merlot, like a Saint-Emilion: something soft, warm, and comfy, like lounging half-awake under my down comforter when my bedroom temp is just right (not hot or warm, but also not nose-chilling cool). That’s this mask. I’ll give it a 92 on the wine tasting scale for now. Score subject to change after I wake up in the morning, depending on how my skin looks and feels then.
I feel like there's got to be some catchy term for masking and drinking. I was trying to think of something with beverages. Baby soft skin sounds wonderful @WinglessOne - more LuLuLun that I need to write down. 😉
Mmmm, love a good Sangiovese wine! @WinglessOne It sounds like the mask was nice too 😆
Thanks @quspork ! I'm honestly more of a nebbiolo fan (hooray for barolo!), but sangiovese is also dang tasty! 🙂
@lmaster Yep, some wines have a meaty flavor note: smoked bacon, roast beef, etc. 🙂 They're tasty!
