Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@heartsmyface, I used to (try to) do a foot soak every Friday night. I need to get back to that. Just thinking about it makes me feel more relaxed. 🥰 I shall live vicariously through you until I get myself back into the habit.

the best masks. I mix them with rose water and apple cider vinegar. Does miracles to my pores by the next day.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

P is for Persimmon, which also fits the fall theme and it’s also one of my favorite fall fruits 😉 I've been using these persimmon masks over the last few days.

PersimmonPersimmon

It's still a little early for persimmon season so I improvised with a few things. Voluspa Saijo Persimmon candle was my very first Voluspa candle. I remember picking it up during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale about 3, maybe even 4, years ago. I loved it then and I love it now. One of my favorites, though with Voluspa candles, it's probably easier to list the scents I'm less fond of. The dried persimmons were not bad, but I've had better. The persimmon tea was a nice treat once the weather cooled down here; in winter time, I like to add some ginger, cinnamon sticks and honey to my persimmon tea. 🍵 But, now it's time to move onto the sheet masks. 😉

Specs:A wash-off bubbling sheet mask that only covers your face from the nose bridge down. The mask fits and adheres nicely and is packed with fizzy essence (and there's extra in the packet) that has a slightly soapy, slightly perfumed scent to it.A cotton sheet mask saturated in a fairly potent citrus and slightly minty-and-medicinal scented, clear, thick-ish, jelly-like serum that feels cooling going on the skin. A very light and thin cotton (?) sheet mask beautifully infused with a light, thin, creamy, milky essence that smells clean, fresh and with a slightly spicy bent to it that reminds me a little of ginger. Fit was what I consider standard for masks - an inch too long at chin and minor adjustments required to corners of eyes and mouth holes. Adherence was great.

Claims:Exfoliating, cleansing and refiningPurifying, detoxing, clearing, and calmingBrightening, moisturizing, soothing, and anti-aging
Other Notable Ingredients:Extracts of papaya, apples, propolis, mung beans, and rice; sodium hyaluronate; witch hazel; milk proteins; and galactomyces ferment filtrate.Extracts of peppermint, rose, lemon, fig, houttuynia cordata and eriobotrya Japonica leaf (loquat), and peppermint oilNiacinamide, extracts of anise, centella asiatica, propolis, prunella vulgaris, mugwort, and green tea; sodium hyaluronate, troxerutin, and lavender, orange and coconut oils.
Performance & Results:
The bubbles foam up quickly and there are a lot of them. A lot. Which was fine with me here because of the shape and because I snipped away the part of the mask that covered the nose bridge so there was no bubbling near my eyes. There's plenty of extra essence to apply to the forehead if desired.

Skin looks and feels cleansed, refreshed, brightened, smooth, and, interestingly, slightly moisturized.
My skin felt nourished by the thicker jelly serum in this mask, a plus on a night when my skin had some dry patches to contend with. I left the mask on for 30 minutes but felt like I could have extended it for another 15 without a problem. My pores were in decent shape when I used this mask so I can't really speak to its detoxing claims. That said, my skin looked and felt well moisturized, bouncier and brighter. Nothing to complain about there! Instant (though temporary, as is to be expected) hydrating, plumping, and brightening effects. I think my pores looked smaller too! The serum on this is lovely and I'm happy that there's extra in the packet.
Additional Thoughts:I think I may have found a bubble sheet mask I like. This half mask shape is well suited for my preferences when it comes to this type of mask. Those with oily or very oily skin will need to be extra mindful of the thickness of the serum and may need to make some adjustments. I spy a cream in this line that I may need to look at more closely with the colder season around the corner.
Repurchase?:Probably. I know, this is quite shocking as I am not a fan of bubble sheet masks.Yes; I loved the results from this mask and will definitely use it again when I can put its detoxifying and clarifying claims to the test.Oh yes, I will. "When exactly did I say I would be done with this sheet mask no-buy?!" Hmmm...

Ingredients: Persimmon is often listed as diospyros kaki leaf

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@itsfi the trexoderm mask sounds great!!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

It was @lmaster! 😍 And now I have a new ingredient to look into. 🧐😊 Definitely one I can see my skin loving in the cooler months.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@itsfi  I was introduced to persimmon from a friend and I also loved them! I need to get one of those Voluspa candles! I love your photo it’s beautiful!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@ather, they’re super tasty. This is a good reminder for me to be on the lookout for persimmon at the store or the farmers market in the next month or so. With covid and shelter in place, I usually just stick to a routine at the grocery store.

This Voluspa saijo persimmon candle smells really good. 😍 You know what else smells good? The lychee candle you sent me; I have it burning right now. Nice way to unwind after a Monday. 😃 Awww, thank you. You’re always so kind! 🤗

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@itsfi  Oh how I miss farmers markets 😭

I’m so glad you are enjoying the candle I sent you!! It’s not super strong but still so nice! My son watches this show called the Bumble Nums and they make food and one is frozen lychee bubble tea. Every time I burn it I think about that silly show!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@ather, aww that’s cute. I had to look up Bumble Nums! 😃 I like that the lychee candle has a softer throw to it. It won’t fill an entire room but you can smell it. I’ve been burning it on the side table when I read. 🥰

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@itsfi   Wait those dried persimmons are for eating or for fragrance?  I saw the photo and thought they were decorative.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@heartsmyface, the one on the tray are for eating. 😆 I’ve definitely had better tasting ones. They don’t usually look so dried out. Hmmm... 🤔

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

What a fun comparison, @itsfi! Your persimmon tea with ginger and cinnamon sounds delicious winter treat. It looks like all the masks worked out well, but the Troxederm in particular sounds like it gave some lovely results!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@quspork, the Troxederm mask was the newfound discovery from this little masking experiment. 😍

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@itsfi  Ya know, I've never eaten a persimmon before! I looked up a description of how they taste and it sounds pretty good! 😃
I've never seen/heard of the Troxederm mask, but it definitely sounds like one I'd like to try! I'm happy to hear you enjoyed it! 😃

Good to know you liked the bubble mask! If you're gonna do a bubble mask, a half sheet is the best way the way to go!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@Shosh85, these are the persimmons I’m most familiar with:

Here are other types:

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@itsfi  wow I didn’t realize there were different ones! I’ll have to look for the different variety!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@ather, I only recently learned that there were all these types. For the longest time I thought the Saijo varietal was a mini or baby Haichiya. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Nice one, Fi!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@itsfi  No way. I think it’s totally understandable. I’m sure more specialty places would have more signs and information about the different types!! I know my mom was telling me there’s one that’s bigger and better for cooking with and one better for eating! But I never knew there was different types!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@itsfi   Oh I had no idea there were different  varieties. I’ve only ever seen the sheng ones.  I tried them once and wasn’t a fan.  I’m wondering if I just didn’t know how to choose one.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@heartsmyface, what was it about the Sheng one that wasn’t great? Texture? Taste?

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@Shosh85, persimmons are yummy! 😋 A delicious fruit. I’ve baked / cooked with them as well but like eating them on their own most. The Hachiya persimmons can get messy fast because of how juicy and gooey the flesh is, so I usually keep a damp towel or napkin nearby.
