Male skincare

Hello! My boyfriend has been struggling with his skin. We have tried multiple different cleansers and we can’t seem to figure out how to make his skin clear. I believe that he has sensitive skin but it’s also hard to tell. He’s a construction worker so he is outdoors and works with dirt and the elements. He also works out quite a bit too. I’m turning to the Sephora community for help bc he refused to chat with his doctor about it and refuses to come in the store. He’s extremely embarrassed by it and desperately wants to see a change. Please help and be kind

Re: Male skincare

@Chelseyybryantt You are not alone in this situation! My husband has struggled with acne for about as long as I've known him and has tried soooo many products to fix it. I tried encouraging him to go to a derm, but he did not want to go and was very reluctant to use anything prescription. Just this year, he switched to using all The Ordinary products and his skin has completely cleared up! I'll list all of the products that he is currently using, in case they might be helpful for your boyfriend. I would recommend reading about each of these serums to see which sounds like it would fit him the best. My husband kind of rotates which ones he uses each day, since some of them can't be used at the same time. And, if your boyfriend does actually have sensitive skin, he would definitely want to ease into the use of direct acids. But overall, I feel like The Ordinary is a pretty approachable brand for guys so these might be worth checking out!

- The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser - Hydrating Makeup Remover 5 oz/ 150 mL

- The Ordinary Aloe 2% + NAG 2% Solution 1 oz / 30 ml

- The Ordinary Lactic Acid 5% + HA 1 oz/ 30 mL

- The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Exfoliating Acne Solution 1 oz / 30 mL

- The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA Daily Moisturizer 3.3 oz/ 100 mL

Re: Male skincare

@Chelseyybryantt for face, use a gentle liquid cleanser like First Aid Beauty Pure Skin Face Cleanser – Gentle Hydrating Cleanser 5 oz/ 150 mL  .  For body, use body wash and not bar soap.  Aveeno has a gentle one that Target has knocked off.  Or, you could look into neutrogena (not anything scented like their Grapefruit line).

BHA is really helpful.  Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Exfoliating Toner for Clear Skin  can be used anywhere. There's also a 9% version and maybe a 4%. For spot treatment, use Persa-gel by Clean & Clear; Target makes a knock off.  It will bleach fabric, so be mindful of that.

For oily skin, innisfree Super Volcanic AHA Pore Clearing Clay Mask 3.38 oz / 100 ml  is good. Oil blotting sheets help when used routinely.   Target makes good ones.

If he still doesn't see success, OTC Differin is an option but I think the Rx strength is better.

If that doesn't work, there is Retin-A.

I know he's reluctant, but a derm is best.  A PCP can also prescribe what he needs.  And don't forget all the tele-med that is available now.

Let us know how it goes.
