Luna oil breaking out

I started using Sunday Riley Luna oil at night for a week and I have been breaking out really bad, is this normal? I should note that I usually never break out.

Re: Luna oil breaking out

I'm an esthetician and I would usually assume your skin is purging since you're using a product that speeds up cell turnover (retinol) but if you don't usually break out, it sounds like your skin just isn't liking this product. When it comes to purging, our breakouts are beneath our skin weeks before they ever reach the surface, but since you never breakout, I don't think you would have those lingering blemishes beneath your skin. Maybe take a break and see if it clears up?

Also something I would keep in mind is that it takes a minimum of 3 months to see a product's full result on your skin, if you're still experiencing breakouts after that, I would just avoid the Luna oil from now on.

Re: Luna oil breaking out

I believe youre supposed to go slow when you first start using retinol. If you are using Luna Oil nightly then cut right back to just once or twice a week and then see how your skin does. Its a fairly common reaction and your skin should adjust but you just have to ease off initially.

@autumnash Perhaps your skin is doing a purge. If you have not used any products like this before, you may have to condition your skin to Luna. Let your break out heal and then try again. I have been using Luna and Good Gene's for about a year now, and I love the results. But I have had to tweak my routine many times with the two products to find what works for me. Maybe adjust the amount you use, or how you apply it, or how often you use it. I use 3 drops for my entire face; only at night; and I give my skin a rest from it once every few days; I have read that some use it every other night. @gonerogue also has a point about mixing products. Sometimes I find certain products I use together make me break out.

RE: Luna oil breaking out

I am only using it with good genes and protini, The latter two which I’ve used for a long time and have never made me break out.

@autumnash

You may want to slow down on the actives. Piling retinol on top of AHA, daily, may be too irritating for your skin.

@autumnash

I’ve been using Luna for some time now and I haven’t found it has made me break out. Are you combining it with any other product that could be causing this effect?

Re: RE: Re: Luna oil breaking out

@autumnash Maybe Protini and Luna are not mixing well? I use Luna and Good Genes and that combo has worked for me very well but I couldn’t imagine adding an extra product as I’m afraid of reactions like yours. I would try experimenting with some combinations to see which ones don’t make you break out. For example, start with Luna + GG and see how that works. Then do Luna + Protini, etc. You might have better luck finding out that way. I always like to do spot tests before I introduce anything new to my face as well so that’s another thing I would recommend you test out in the future.
