Is Neutrogena Acnewash good for dry combo skin

My name is CaroleAnne I am 14 years old and I have been having someproblems with my skin care routine. I used a charcoal cleanser daily for pm and am routine before using this I had oily combo skin I used thisproduct for three months and my skin had just had enough and was peeling red and extremely tight I went to Ulta to check out some of theiroptions and someone helped me telling me I now had dry to combo she then found me a dermalogica dry to combo starter kit which was 40 dollars a little over my price range I have been using this kit for a month now and have had a good experience but just ran out today Honestly I just cannot afford that fourth dollars every month and a half or commit to a full size of each product in kit with each on raging from 20-60 dollarsso I think I need so help finding a brand or two that isn’t breaking the bank but isn’t extremely simple that it doesn’t help my skin improve Myskin has gotten Irritated tight and peeling around my mouth and forehead I just need a routine that will keep my skin refresh replenished and hydrate but also fight blackhead breakouts and acne I’m in desperate need of help

Re: Is Neutrogena Acnewash good for dry combo skin

Hi @cortmann  I have a 14 yr old daughter with cane prone skin so I can understand the struggle of finding something that works for you and is appropriate for your young skin ( like no excessive chemical or anti-aging ingredients) Three products that she has been using for years and that work really well together ( and won’t break the bank)

- Clean & Clear deep action sensitive skin cream cleanser

- Cetaphil Dermacontrol oil control SPF 30 moisturizer for day time ( don’t be put off by oil control, she has normal- dry skin and it works perfectly for her)

- Clean & Clear advantage acne control moisturizer for night time.

I would add that she also uses prescription acne treatments for morning and night along with these products but since her acne is under control now so she often skip the treatments and these three products still work well for her.

I may add that if your acne persist the better idea is to see a Paediatric dermatologist and get a prescription instead of experimenting with OTC medicines. My daughter started getting really bad acne when she was only 10 and seeing a Derm was the best decision.
If you are Canadian, you just need to ask your family doctor to refer you to a dermatologist and it will be covered by your health card. I don’t know how it works in US though.
I hope this helps. Feel free to ask any more question you have 🙂

Re: Is Neutrogena Acnewash good for dry combo skin

The First Aid Beauty line is very nice for someone your age. It’s what my 12 year old daughter uses. She uses the wash, facial radiance pads, hydrating serum, and face moisturizer (not the ulta repair, hers is the one in a pump.) Her skin is combo normal/dry, prone to eczema, and very sensitive. The ONLY mud mask she uses is the calamine calming one from ulta, and only once a week. She was getting breakouts before starting this routine and it has cleared her skin, now she only gets an occasional blemish. If products from here are out of reach budget-wise and you need something from the drugstore I recommend looking into products by Cetaphil or CeraVe they are much gentler. Also, if you are tempted to mess with blemishes, instead of picking grab some peach slices or similar acne stickers.

I will add that the FAB products last a while, so while you might have to replenish the radiance pads more frequently the wash and cream should be good for several months of use.

@cortmannI would recommend trying some stuff by accure, burt's bees, yes to,  or the ordinary here on sephora. The 4 essential steps in a skincare routine are cleanser, exfoliator, toner, and moisturizer. I'd say get a cleanser, any cleanser really, with the word "gentle" or "calming" in the name since that generally means it won't dry your face out. If you get a non-prestige brand (which should include all the ones I mentioned) at Ulta you can also use $3 off coupons. I'd opt for an exfoliating toner with glycolic acid to kill two birds with one stone and help with the flakiness. For a moisturizer- look for something with hyaluronic acid that isn't oil free and you should be fine

and I would generally stay away from drugstore stuff made for acne, as it's usually all super drying though the nutrogena wash shouldn't be too bad
