Everlasting acne scarring

So I'm a compulsive zit picker and as I age (40yo here) the pimples I victimize take longer and longer to heal and disappear. The pigmentation can last months. Anybody out there have magic skincare product recommendations? And yes, I know I should stop picking, but it's hard to untrain this old dog. TIA!!

YES! Rodan and Fields AMP MD Roller!!! I had cystic acne...

YES! Rodan and Fields AMP MD Roller!!! I had cystic acne with deep scarring. Which I no longer suffer from either any more. It completely resurfaced my skin.

Re: Everlasting acne scarring

@glossydepending in how sensitive your skin is you could try a mild chemical peel. I had some severe scarring (edit to add these were deep tissue ice pick scars)  a few years back following an illness. Using a peel biweekly helped heal the newer scars & over time the major scarring has been drastically reduced. Personally I rely on the Ole Henriksen Lemon Strip Flash Peel and I've reduced my usage to 1x a week now unless I've been picking at my skin.

Edit: of course if you use peels you'll need to add in sunscreen during the day if it's not something you already use regularly. Also a vitamin C serum can be helpful but it's not what I personally credit for eliminating my scars (I used vitamin C products in conjunction with the peel sporadically).

Re: Everlasting acne scarring

I'm in my 30s and just started going to a specialist because I got tired of trying so may products that didn't seem to work. I'd suggest that. Overall she is no more expensive than most of the products you will find highly rated.  You can also find the right mix for your skin. Mine makes her own so it doesn't have non essential ingredients or perfumes.

Re: Everlasting acne scarring

Vitamin C is an effective ingredient to combat hyperpigmentation from acne scarring. (Another one is niacinamide, but I believe that's more of an Asian Beauty ingredient; I can't think of a lot of Sephora products off the top of my head that contain it.)

I've been using the Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum approximately every other day for 2-3 months now, and there is a visible difference in my hyperpigmentation. I think it is super worth it, although it can seem a bit pricy. You can buy it in a mini sizeas part of the rise + glow set with Drunk Elephant's moisturizer though, which many find more cost effective.

Re: Everlastingly acne scarring

Hi glossy!

I'm a big fan of the Fresh Umbrian Clay Purifying Mask because it can be used as a spot treatment, a mask and a cleanser. Personally I'll use it once a week as a mask, and as spot treatment as needed.

Re: Everlastingly acne scarring

@SianBT I would have thought to use the Fresh mask during a breakout or as a general deep cleansing mask. Would it also be effective for pigmentation and scarring?

Re: Everlastingly acne scarring

Sorry about that AshleyYVR!

For targeting the pigmentation and scarring, I would recommend trying the OLEHENRIKSEN Power Bright™ 3-Step Professional Brightening System. It's one of my favorite products!
