Best cleanser, treatment and moisturizer for scarring

Hi there!

I suffer from dermatillomania and I have lesions/scarrings all over my face, chest and my upper back.

I am looking for the best products for my skincare routine: cleaser, treatment and moisturizer.

Tell me everything! 😅

Re: Best cleanser, treatment and moisturizer for scarring

@MaevaRocks, Hello how are you.

I was thinking about this. I worked in the medical field for 15 years and I no longer practice since I wanted to pursue something that I am more passionate about, but from my years being a CFNP I did a lot of tenure in dermatology clinics. I don't know very much about commercial products, and so I ask for advice, but I do know the best medical-grade products for certain conditions.

For a cleanser, I really would go with something gentle and hypoallergenic. CLINIQUE Rinse-Off Foaming Cleanser 5 oz/ 150 mL is, and I quote "allergy tested, and free of fragrance, SLS, alcohol, silicone, oil, and gluten." What is of primary importance is that you don't further irritate - so no fragrance, alcohol, or oil is a MUST.

As far as treatment goes, here is where I wouldn't recommend anything commercial - at least not top pick, but get some Rose Hip Oil for sure! Here is what I recommend and you'd need to see a medical professional (save for the rose oil):

* Hydroquinone 4% (Obagi,  SkinCeuticals, or WebMD) - you will need a prescription for 4%.

* A steroid cream like Clobetasol Propionate (Temovate, not Temovate A as that too emollient), Methylprednisolone cream (I saw this do wonders on women who had scarring from cesarean sections) - Advantan is the best one.

(I recommend a combination of the Hydroquinone and steroid cream, first and foremost).

OR

If those are not feasible for you, BIOCORNEUM Advanced Scar Treatment, IS Clinical's Pro-Heal Serum, or if you can't swing those, then you should buy a rosehip oil product anyway - with or without any of these.

STAY AWAY FROM ANY RETINOIDS IF POSSIBLE, THEY WILL MAKE YOU PURGE AND YOU WILL PICK MORE.

Back to a Rosehip Oil for treatment, The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil would work just fine.

Lastly, for a moisturizer - without a doubt, go with CLINIQUE Moisture Surge 72-Hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator .

I think you can't go wrong. Take care and all the best.
