Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

The mask sounds wonderful @l8totheparty. When I first read your post I thought that you actually painted the photo.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Yesterday morning I wanted to try a new cleanser: The Inkey List Oat Cleansing Balm. TIL says it can also be used as a 10 minute wash-off mask, so I decided to test that.

Super happy I took a chance on this product.Super happy I took a chance on this product.

Notes:

Spoiler

Claims: Gently cleans skin and dissolves makeup. Soothes irritation and supports the skin barrier. Doubles as a 10-minute nourishing mask.

Ingredients: This list is the reason I bought a tube of this cleanser. I hate cleansing balms on my face (instead I use them to remove makeup swatches/custom blends from my arms and hands) because they always leave a gross residue behind and irritate my eyes. The emulsifiers in this balm should help it rinse off much better, and it doesn’t seem to contain any major eye irritants. Plus, my skin loves soothing oats, and sweet almond oil is loaded with fatty acids, vitamin E, and other good stuff. Bonus points for being fragrance free.

Spoiler
Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, PEG-6 Caprylic/Capric Glycerides, Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Oil, Candelilla Cera (Cire de candelilla), Silica, Sorbitan Stearate, Tribehenin, PEG-60 Almond Glycerides, Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Flour, Aqua (Water/Eau), Benzyl Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol, Lecithin, 1,2-Hexanediol, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Tocopherol, Biosaccharide Gum-4, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil

Performance: Since 10 minutes is longer than my average shower, I started this mask at the sink after rinsing my face with water. This stuff is a very smooth cream that, unsurprisingly, smells a lot like my Aveeno body lotion. It was easy to rub all over my face. It got a bit milky in places, just like an oil cleanser does once you add water.

I let the oat balm sit on my face while I gave parts of my dry body an AHA exfoliation treatment, then started the shower and washed everything but my face and hair (it wasn’t a hair washing day). At the 10 minute mark for the oat mask, I rinsed it off. It didn’t leave a greasy residue, hurt my eyes, or cause blurry vision. I didn’t follow up with my usual AM cream cleanser; I wanted to see how clean this balm could get my morning face on its own.

I like that this balm comes in a tube: it’s easier and less messy to use than a jarred balm. Since it contains oils, I recommend shaking the tube before each use, lest you go to squeeze out some balm and end up with a small puddle of oil instead.

Results: Soft and moderately moisturized skin that felt clean but not stripped. My dry zones felt good and my oily zone was happy. Best of all, my face didn’t look or feel like it was still dirty. I can see this balm being a nice soothing mask during one of my face’s bad reaction tantrums. I still need to test this as a first-step cleanser on a full face of makeup. But for now, it’s a nice solo AM cleanser option.

Last night, S = sparkling & shine, and H = hydration, courtesy of the Peripera Sparkling TokTok Time Shine Muscat Hydrating mask.

Can’t wait to use more of this one in a couple months. Can’t wait to use more of this one in a couple months.

Notes:

Spoiler

Claims: Hydrates skin. Peripera says all their Sparkling TokTok Time masks will “clear away sebum, grease, and impurities with clean carbonated water.”

Ingredients: 3 forms of hyaluronic acid! I’d be bummed about them being in the second half of this list if it weren’t for the additional presence of xylitol, anhydroxylitol, and Aquaxyl (the trade name for xylitylglucoside; Peripera uses the trade name in their marketing). Those are 3 additional hydration powerhouses. Combine all those with even more hydrators—glycerin and glucose—and this mask should be a hydration rockstar.

In all the TokTok mask varieties, Peripera specifically calls out Pollustop® (the trade name for biosaccharide gum-4) as the fatigued skin protector.

Spoiler
Water, Glycerin, Butylene glycol, Propanediol, Bis-PEG-18 Methyl Ether Dimethyl Silane, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Arginine, Carbomer, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Allantoin, Disodium EDTA, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Methylpropanediol, Xylitylglucoside, Anhydroxylitol, Xylitol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Fruit Extract (1,000 ppm), Glucose, Biosaccharide Gum-4, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate, 1,2-Hexanediol, Hydroxyacetophenone, Ethylhexylglycerin, Chlorphenesin, Fragrance

Performance: I must start with smell. This mask smells exactly like grape soda. Grape Faygo, to be precise—well, to those of us of a certain age who were born and raised in Michigan. 😄 The scent broke my childhood memory dam in the happiest of ways. I’m glad the smell was persistent, but not overpowering. (I think I said the same thing about the cherry TokTok variety: that one’s cherry Kool-Aid scent started a flood of childhood memories.) I poured a half handful of serum from the sleeve and wanted to inhale it. Instead I applied it to my neck and the forehead section of the sheet.

All the Sparkling TokTok varieties use a super thin “Airy sheet” that’s very comfy and adheres like a dream. Like the Cherry TokTok variety, this Shine Muscat sheet required no snipping or tearing; it was the perfect length for me, and I was able to stretch it enough to cover my jaw. Also like the cherry mask, this green grape one felt very refreshingly cooling during the 35 minutes of wear. After sheet removal, I spent a minute massaging/pressing serum into my skin. There was moderate tackiness but no pilling. At this point, the used sheet and my hands smelled more like grape Kool-Aid, which was still an enjoyable scent.

Results: Plump, dewy, and very hydrated skin that felt more moisturized than I expected. I almost didn’t apply a cream moisturizer but decided to further seal in the hydration this mask gave my skin. This mask will be fantastic in July. I’ve already ordered a box of them and kinda wanna order a second box now. I’m calling this mask a 92-93 point Sauvignon Blanc—not the creamy overly sweet type, but the far superior crisp acidic type in which hints of rocks and green grass mingle with stone fruits. I already have a box of this mask and I think I’ll order another 1 or 2, lest it disappear from all retailers in the near future.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Ooo I'll be curious to hear how it works as a first step but sounds great for a gentle cleanser or a mask @WinglessOne. And The Inkey List has such great price points.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

The oat cleanser sounds great as a mask! @WinglessOne and grape soda scent 😍

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@WinglessOne  I love multi purpose items. Glad the 10 minute didn’t irritate you or cause any issues!!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Love some cleansing agents as masks, @WinglessOne - especially some balms. This sounds promising and of course the price🤩

Also, another mask to try-the Peripera ones have had nothing but positive reviews here.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

No blurry vision sounds great! I hate that about certain cleansers @WinglessOne . The Tok Tok mask sounds absolutely fabulous!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

The Peripera sounds so refreshing, @WinglessOne.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@quspork  It really is. My skin has demanded that I buy even more of this one. 😄

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@WinglessOne oh nice on the inkey list! I didn't realize it could also be used as a mask! it sounds like it did a pretty good job and so great at that point price!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Kim888  It’s a multitasker! I wish it also came in a travel size. Not that I can’t squeeze some into my own reusable travel sized tube, but I kinda like the simplicity of The Inkey List’s black & white packaging. And who knows, by the time it’s safe to travel again, there might be a mini or DS available. 😄

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

You may have enabled me to purchase the Inkey List Oat Cleansing Balm @WinglessOne. It sounds like a good morning mask and you cannot beat the price.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Loretta55  At such a reasonable price, it’s worth trying. 🙂

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Yum grape soda! @WinglessOne

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@l8totheparty  It seems this whole line of masks has a nice fruity soda or Kool-Aid scent. 🙂

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Sounds delicious! @WinglessOne

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@WinglessOne

Ooh, grape soda sounds delicious! I've had 4 masks from this line sitting around for awhile and even though I haven't tried any of them yet, I ordered a couple more sets of each, just based on your review of the cherry one. Haha! Happy to hear you loved this one - I'm excited to try it! 😃

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85  😂 Hopefully you’ll like them, too! I have one more variety to try: the Wine Ade Exfoliating mask, which contains extracts of orange and grapefruit. I hope they’re not orange and grapefruit oils. I’m sure my skin will tell me one way or the other when I use this mask.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@WinglessOne  Good to know! I actually only bought one of the Lime, because I noticed it had alcohol in it...... is there a reason you didn't pick it up? 🤔

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85  Hmm, I don’t remember which ingredient(s) in the lime mask stopped me from buying it, aside from wondering if the lime extract was actually lime oil. Is this the mask that contains pine needle (er, leaf) extract? That’s in one of the masks I didn’t buy; I didn’t know if it was truly pine extract or pine oil. Hopefully it’s the former.

Can’t wait to hear what you think of it and the other varieties!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@WinglessOne  Looks like it has Lime extract and pine extract. 🧐👇B4A00DDB-7055-41D8-9872-5F883D774D6F.jpeg

I also missed that I had the "Pinkfull Lemon" one too, but the Cherry and Grape are definitely the ones I'm most excited to try!7520756D-51E3-4B9C-8A29-A155BA9EF693.jpeg
