Mask of the Week Misc. Info & Previous Year's Links:

To Post:
Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas.

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks - Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85  I’m glad this mask did wonders for you!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thanks, @WinglessOne! I love my snail slime 😍🐌

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I really love this snail mask @Shosh85; ♥️ So happy it performed well for you too! 🐌

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi  Oh my gosh, that snail gif is adorable 😍 Glad you love this one too! I'll definitely need to buy some backups! 🐌

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I’ve been trying to up my masking game since I have more time at home to actually use the dozen or more masks I have laying around.

S is for Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask 2.25 oz/ 64 g

I have been trying this one the morning after I use the The INKEY List Glycolic Acid Exfoliating Toner. It is certainly more hydrating than my Fresh Rose Face Mask 3.3 oz/ 100 mL, but am I the only one that feels like I’m smearing butter all over my face? I like it I think, but I’m not sure I would purchase it, I got this as a gratis. I have combination oily skin, I’m curious if this helps with annoying dry patches on my neck overtime.

H is for Nature Republic Hydrogel Mask Aloe Vera. Ok- I’m not sure why hydrogel mask textures freak me out, but I actually loved the texture of this one and it was a near perfect fit on my face. I don’t think it was the most moisturizing and I got it as a gift, but I am certainly going to look into more Nature Republic hydrogel masks.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@lnum I love the jet lag, but a little goes a long way

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@lmaster No matter how much I use still feels like butter. 😂

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Yeah it's pretty thick @lnum

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hmmm @lnum @haven’t read the other comments yet, but the Summer Friday’s May be a bit much for daytime use. I have normal/dry skin and find it best for an added final layer in the winter before bedtime.

Didn’t even know Nature Republic made hydrogel masks, thanks for the heads up!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I have a full tube of the Jet Lag that I just haven't opened up yet @lnum ... I'm thinking I should use up a sample first and maybe pause the full size til fall after seeing your review!  Thanks for the heads up!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@missjeanie Definitely try the sample. I just don’t see myself purchasing this, I got the full size gratis and I’ll use it up but then I’ll move on. However, I can see this being really great for dry skin folks, just not my skin type!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@lnum  I had a sample of Jet Lag and couldn’t finish it because even my dry zones felt kinda swamped. My oily zone was definitely not amused. I do think it’d be good for spot treating flaky irritated patches, though.

On a positive note, I’m glad that aloe hydrogel mask turned out to be a great fit and texture for you!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@WinglessOne Yes! I feel like my forehead and nose are swampy since using it this morning with some clogged pores on my nose, so I may need to start putting the fresh rose mask there and jet lag everywhere else moving forward, the dry patches on my neck are the worst and I’ve never been able to get rid of them. Thanks for the tip!

I am certainly going to explore more of their hydrogel masks for the texture alone and two piece perfect fit!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I adore Nature Republic's aloe vera skincare line, @lnum. I haven't tried the mask yet though so glad to hear it worked out well for you!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@quspork Ohhhh I would recommend the mask! It was soothing and calming, I bet this would be perfect after a day in the sun.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@lnum  Sounds like a nice masking session! Happy to hear you liked the Nature Republic Mask! I definitely think the two piece hydrogels are more comfortable to wear (and better fitting) than a one piece! I haven't tried this Aloe one, but I have tried the Honey one and loved it! 🍯

It's funny you compared the Jet Lag Mask to butter - when I used it I couldn't stop thinking I was smearing toothpaste on my face 😂 I would agree that it's more hydrating that the Fresh Rose Mask- but the Rose mask didn't really do much for me at all.
Great reviews! Hope to see you more on the thread! 😃

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85 Oh my gosh, now I’m definitely going to imagine a cross between butter and toothpaste next time. It just felt more buttery than pasty for me, maybe like cream cheese? 🤣

I agree about the Fresh Rose Mask, I’m not sure it does anything for me but I’ve been obsessed with it for years. Might just be the routine of it and pleasant smell.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@lnum  I think the design of the tube is part of the reason I thought of toothpaste 😂

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85 It 100% reminds me of the tomato paste tube from Trader Joe’s. 🤣

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@lnum, hydrogel mask do take some getting used to. It’s great that this one was such a good fit for your face! 🙌🏼 The packaging for the aloe one looks refreshing. I’ve tried the pomegranate one from this line and it was pretty good.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi It was definitely refreshing and soothing, but I wouldn’t say it was super hydrating. I am curious to try others from them. I have a Nature Republic store really close by so I’ll probably go pick some up later this summer when things reopen or maybe order a couple interesting looking ones online.
