Mask of the Week Misc. Info & Previous Year's Links:

To Post:
Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas.

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks - Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

2018 Mask of the Week Challenge:

NEW!!! Got an idea for next year's challenge? Let me know! Was there a challenge you'd rather not repeat? Share below, so we can start building the 2021 schedule:

Re: 2020 Q1 Mask of the Week Challenge

Joining in for what I hope will be a six-month clear-out-my-mask stash journey. Gingerly working on a no buy for sheet masks, though I haven’t committed to anyone (including myself).
A’Pieu, Peach Slices, Facetory and FarmacyA’Pieu, Peach Slices, Facetory and Farmacy

This year is all about emptying my drawers and cabinet, so I am working on a few lingering FS while finishing up other miscellaneous DS jars and tubes. This FARMACY - Honey Potion Renewing Antioxidant Hydration Mask is such a lovely mask and one I will likely repurchase, though in a smaller size. This jar has lasted me almost a year, and while I had hoped to finish it this winter, I haven’t. It doesn’t warm quite as much as it used to, which is actually a good thing as I will be able to make use of it in the summer months.

I’ve had the A’Pieu Strawberry mask for awhile now, and it kept getting picked over. Not tonight! It is a fairly thin mask, with a decent fit though the eye openings needed a couple of slits so the mask wasn’t touching anywhere near them. The artificial strawberry scent is sweet and pleasant, like Strawberry Quik. It remained throughout almost the entire 30 minutes I masked. Once it was removed, I gave it a few minutes. Only a very slight tack, woohoo! I love when I can just move on with the rest of my skincare for the night. A decent mask, one I would definitely use again-especially if it came in a peach or blueberry scent.

I like the Peach Slices Jelly Bounce Lip Balm in Peach, it has a pretty decent last-time and isn’t sticky-icky. I wouldn’t repurchase at this point because I sadly have no room for more lip balms.

Finally, the Facetory Perfectly You Steaming Hair Mask. This is the first product like it I have tried. After shampooing and rinsing, patting dry, I removed the mask from the package. It was interesting, reminded me of the material that the Hectic masks were made of-a kind of diaper-like plastic material. There was a sticky tab, which was nice to ensure a perfect fit. It had a fair amount of fragranced lotion at the top of the cap, so I made sure to massage my head well while wearing it. Instructions state to leave on for 15 minutes, I let my hair marinate for around 30. After removing, I found some of the lotion still trapped at the very top. I have medium length, fine hair and although the mask size was generous, I don’t foresee someone with thick, long, or both hair benefiting much from this. My hair does feel soft, but not as much as it does from other hair masks I use. I was hoping for some steam but none to be seen. Fun to try, but wouldn’t buy again.

Finally, the Facetory Perfectly You Steaming Hair Mask.

Re: 2020 Q1 Mask of the Week Challenge

@eshoe I'm hoping to make some space too. Except I've written that I will do a mask no buy. I have a feeling there will be temptations so I hope I stay strong.

Re: 2020 Q1 Mask of the Week Challenge

You can do this @ShortErica! I made it five days into my mask no-buy and stumbled upon a box of the holiday Crème Shop Hello Kitty masks 🙄 I gave myself a pass because it’s not something I can buy year round. But other than that, I’m expecting smooth sailing this month.

Re: 2020 Q1 Mask of the Week Challenge

Yeah, when I picked up my Ulta birthday gift I saw one pack in their clearance section @eshoe. I resisted because at first I felt good using my 2020 expirations this year on time and then @l8totheparty's post reminded me that I also have masks with no expiration date that I should probably use too. I have quite a few masks that don't list an expiration date. Onward and upward!

Re: 2020 Q1 Mask of the Week Challenge

Good for you @ShortErica! I thought I was stronger, had in mind an item (eyelash separator) that has been OOS and came back in stock. It was a different store than the one I usually go to and their clearance area was on a kiosk near the front🤦🏻‍♀️

Re: 2020 Q1 Mask of the Week Challenge

Have you figured out how to tell Creme Shop mask expiration? All it is are numbers. I have a lot of Creme Shop- the ones I've tried are so nice!

@ShortErica @eshoe

Re: 2020 Q1 Mask of the Week Challenge

@l8totheparty a couple of mine do have an expiration but you're right - The Creme Shop and Mitomo masks are the bulk of what I don't know. I think I'll be able to do them this year too so I think it'll be fine. But it would be nice to have an expiration.

Re: 2020 Q1 Mask of the Week Challenge

@eshoe I really liked that Strawberry mask too - strawberry Nesquik is a good description! 😋🍓 Peach would be a great one, though there is a blueberry one and a few other flavors; 👇

Re: 2020 Q1 Mask of the Week Challenge

Oooh thank you @Shosh85, that mango one looks delicious!

Re: 2020 Q1 Mask of the Week Challenge

A nice set of masks, @eshoe! I'm with you on just trying to shop the mask stash for a while... there are just too many!

Re: 2020 Q1 Mask of the Week Challenge

@qusporktell me about it😂 They are like bunnies!

Re: 2020 Q1 Mask of the Week Challenge

Seeing the instructions on the steam hair mask was nice @eshoe , you had me curious until I read your review... my hair will be too long for this so now I can happily use the masks I have instead of grabbing this!  I hear ya on working through products!  I just used a mask I'm rating a D, just so that it's gone.

Re: 2020 Q1 Mask of the Week Challenge

Yeah I don’t think you realize how burdened you feel having such a full stash, it can be overwhelming @missjeanie. It feels SO GOOD to be digging into to some long-time linger-ers!

Re: 2020 Q1 Mask of the Week Challenge

I totally agree @eshoe ,  I feel like a bit of a brat who sounds ungrateful in some ways, and it's not that, but it really is so overwhelming!

Re: 2020 Q1 Mask of the Week Challenge

I don’t think you sound ungrateful at all, @missjeanie. I took a full inventory over the past few days and I feel a huge sense of relief. This is the year of fine-tuning!

Re: 2020 Q1 Mask of the Week Challenge

I'm scared to do an inventory @eshoe !  I spent last night picking out 20 products to pan for 2020 and looking at my 19 for 2019.  I had way too much to choose from.  Next I need to declutter some products.  I have two large USPS boxes and a bag of stuff from TJMaxx that I can't fit into my beauty storage areas currently sitting on my bedroom floor.

Re: 2020 Q1 Mask of the Week Challenge

😳 wow yep sounds like the perfect weeknight can’t get to sleep project, @missjeanie

Re: 2020 Q1 Mask of the Week Challenge

Ooooo strawberry quik!! @eshoe yum!!

Re: 2020 Q1 Mask of the Week Challenge

Very sweet, @lmaster - exactly what I was hoping!

Re: 2020 Q1 Mask of the Week Challenge

@lmaster dang... I'm gonna need to take a look for this at the grocers this week!

Re: 2020 Q1 Mask of the Week Challenge

@eshoe  Great to hear that they all worked flawlessly with your skincare!!
