Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@GalPalVal17 the fit and the scent were not the best, I don't think I would seek it out, but I would use it again

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

My notes from this mask said the smell was overpowering and it left me tacky @lmaster. At least there were good results!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

It was overpowering for sure @ShortErica I definitely didn't notice the tackiness at all ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿคท interesting

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

It's always interesting comparing experiences @lmaster. Sometimes I have the same feelings about a mask and other times it's like I was using a different mask. Who knows?! ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

Gross Mask

It took me a while to dig through my masks and find something that was "gross." I have a fair bit of masks with ingredients that I don't like to eat, but like, they're not gross, but then I found this! Double Dare OMG! Red + Snail Mask. Its "gross" ingredient is snail secretion filtrate.Front of box, slightly misleading w re to textureFront of box, slightly misleading w re to texture

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@haleyvvvv  Thanks for giving your opinion on prism. I was wondering about it since my face isnโ€™t totally loving babyfacial!!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

No worries @ather! I was just reading your babyfacial thread. I think you have a lot of good advice there. When I was coming back from overexfoliation, I used nothing but a milky cleanser, vitamin c serum, ceramide serum/cream, moisturizer and SPF (important) plus a spritz and salve throughout the day and moisturizer plus jet lag at night. This was for two weeks. I was getting back into actives a week later and used the Prism for 10 minutes, as it suggests for sensitive skin, and it was too much (I luckily stopped any super bad outcomes, but my face was red and splotchy all night, although normal and soft in the morning). After a few weeks of working it up, I'm now up 5ish minutes.

It sounds like you maybe used the DE for just too long if your skin went back to normal by the morning. Obviously, you know your skin, but I'd try the babyfacial again but maybe at a lesser time point (5 min?) But maybe take a week off of the intense actives? It is a lot of acids in that one as well. Prism is also very strong, it has more BHA and less AHA than DE, so it depends on what your skin can handle more of. In general with these super high doses of acids, I think it's best to go at half the recommended time at first and half that if your skin is sensitive or not used to actives or exfoliators.

Good luck and I hope your face feels better!!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@haleyvvvv  Thanks!!!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

That pic on the Double Dare mask package really does look like it's advertising a gel mask or something similar, @haleyvvvv. I love a good snail product, but haven't tried this one so thanks for the review. Too bad it wasn't a better performer!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Thanks @quspork! I think it might work for others (I just am a little biased against sheet masks). I think it is less firming and more like renewing, my skin was refreshed the next day and while the mask on, it was hydrating (although my skin needed more moisturizing and sleep masks after).

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@haleyvvvv  even though the picture was a little misleading as to the material of the  mask, it was still pretty. At least it gave you decent results.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@GalPalVal17! Thanks! It was nice that it wasn't the standard colour of mask, so that was fun! And it wasn't a complete dud and didn't give me any negative side effects, so overall it was okay.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Wow that mask package is intense @haleyvvvv! Sorry it was only a C grade but glad you found a gross one for the theme.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@ShortErica It is very intense, that's why I got it (maybe a BC pop-up? Maybe FFF?), I was like, ooh this sleek hydrogel looks fun. A "C" is a good passing grade for me, but I am glad it fit the theme, so I could use them up.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@haleyvvvv  Looking at the mask package I would have totally thought it was a hydrogel! Definitely seems misleading ๐Ÿค”Is the mask more orange in color, or is that just lighting? I'm glad it turned out decent ...... I think after doing so many masks I've gotten pickier and it definitely takes a lot for me to give a mask an A grade as well. At least a C is still a passing grade ๐Ÿ˜‰

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Same! @Shosh85. I definitely wanted it be a hydrogel. It might be the lighting. It is red-orange, like a not quite ripe tomato? ๐Ÿ… I just have such an aversion to sheet masks (I think they're messier than they're worth most time, packaging issues, etc), that to get an A it takes a lot as a sheet mask, where I might be more forgiving of non-sheet mask. It was a good mask, I definitely felt like my face looked more renewed the next day, but wouldn't repurchase. A "C" is glad I tried, it worked a bit, fit okay but probably wouldn't buy again.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@haleyvvvv wow that's a brightly colored mask haha - sorry it didn't work out well for you!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Lol, it is definitely like an unripe tomato, @Kim888. At least it wasn't the same as usual, I guess? It was okay! I think, I really don't like sheet masks, so to get an a LOT from me takes A LOT. A "C" is a good passing grade for me.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Yeah that packaging does make the mask material look like a hydrogel @haleyvvvv cool red color tho!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

It does! I prefer hydrogel masks, mostly for fit concerns, @lmaster, plus it was that sleek red colour! This one was just more red-orange, and just not what I expected but it was different in colour than most masks I see.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Iโ€™ve been rolling through my quickly expiring Frudia pomegranate masks this week, but here are 2 other masks I used.

The Orchid Skin Orchid Flower Moisture Mask. This oneโ€™s new to me. Apparently Orchid Skin no longer makes it, so Iโ€™m glad I bought a box of 10.

The Orchid Skin Orchid Flower Moisture MaskThe Orchid Skin Orchid Flower Moisture Mask

Notes:

Spoiler

Ingredients: Contains extracts of 3 flowers (including orchid), prickly pear, Jobโ€™s tears, cucumber, and aloe. Nothing in the serum seemed suspicious or harmful, and fragrance is listed last.

Spoiler
50BB9EEC-8698-4F51-935C-E2FB99D400EE.jpeg

Performance: The thin serum dripped off the mask while I unfolded it, and there was a lot left over in the sleeve. I kinda wanted to squeeze it into a jar for future use. (I might do that with the rest of these masks. :D) Fit and adherence were fine. I had no bad or iffy skin reactions while using this mask. Itโ€™s more florally fragrant than expected, but not enough to make me sneeze while wearing it.

Results: This mask is quite hydrating and surprisingly moisturizing, plus cooling. Hydration wasnโ€™t surprising at all, but I didnโ€™t expect much moisturization after seeing how thin the serum was. But after 25 minutes of masking, my skin was plump, bright, and happy.

SNP Per Fit Bio-Cel Double Moisturizing Mask. This is the third time Iโ€™ve used this mask, and itโ€™s earned the honor of being one of the few honey masks I can safely use.

SNP Per Fit Bio-Cell Double Moisturizing MaskSNP Per Fit Bio-Cell Double Moisturizing Mask

Notes:

Spoiler
Ingredients: Each time I saw this mask on shelves, I passed it up because of the alcohol content, plus I wasnโ€™t thrilled about fragrance being listed above all the hyaluronic acid and honey ingredients. But I finally gave it a chance since it contains no perfuming essential oils, and I liked that it has a good amount of niacinamide and urea. As for honey, Iโ€™m far more impressed by the honey and propolis extracts than the royal jelly extract.
Spoiler
Water, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Niacinamide, Propanediol, Isopentyldiol, Alcohol Denat., 1,2-Hexanediol, Hydroxyacetophenone, Betaine, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Hydroxyethyl Urea, Carbomer, Adenosine, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium, Potassium Hydroxide, Pentaerythrityl Tetraethylhexanoate, Fragrance, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Honey Extract, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit Juice, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Royal Jelly Extract, Polysorbate 60, Sorbitan Isostearate, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Water, Propolis Extract, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate

Performance: Super thin sheet with mesh backing on both sides, thank goodnessโ€”otherwise itโ€™d be impossible to unfold and apply. Itโ€™s slightly too wide at my temples, so I have to kinda scrunch the thin sheet a bit there. It fits fine everywhere else. The first time I used it, I also used a mask holder to keep it in place (so I could sharpen one of my kitchen knives on a water stone during the 20-30 minute wear time). But this time I found the mask stays put once I smooth it all out and press it to my face for about 10 seconds.

Despite fragranceโ€™s midpoint position on the ingredients list, all I smell while wearing this mask is honeyโ€”and itโ€™s a pure honey scent, not an exaggerated sugared fragrance. Itโ€™s also not a super strong scent. After removing the mask, my face stays quite tacky for an hour, even after I apply my cream moisturizer (YTTP Superfood) over it. The stickiness gets better afterward but doesnโ€™t fully disappear for hours. And honestly, I expect that from honey masks. It also makes my skin smell lightly of honey for a few hours.

Results: This mask is ridiculously moisturizing. The reason I generally stay away from honey is its reverse humectant effect on me: rather than attract moisture to my skin, it lets my environment sap moisture from my skin, leaving my face dry and flaky-patchy. But that doesnโ€™t happen with this mask, even though it contains alcohol. Thereโ€™s enough glycerin, niacinamide, HA, and urea to keep my skin from drying out, so it can reap honeyโ€™s benefits. Each time I use this mask, I wake up to super moisturized skin and an under-control oily zone. If I was an AM masker, this is one Iโ€™d use on frigid mornings to prep and protect my skin for the day.
