Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

I'm so sorry the snail didn't work for you @WinglessOne!  It's such a let down when a mask that should hydrate and nourish you skin fails so completely.  I am really glad the Frudia helped though.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Thanks @mrsmouse  Frudia pom to the rescue!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

That's too bad the Saem mask didn't work out to be more hydrating. Too heavy a fragrance can also make the process less than pleasant too. I'm glad the Frudia one worked better for you, @WinglessOne.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@quspork  Oh, the snail mask was hydrating. Briefly. It just wasn’t moisturizing at all. That Frudia mask always works great for me. 🙂

For me, fragrance in skincare products can mount an assault from all sides: sinuses, headache, migraine trigger, and bad skin reaction. I’m surprised the Frudia pom mask has never caused any of those reactions, considering where fragrance sits on its ingredients list. I do wish it was less scented, but it’s a scent I can easily deal with. The snail mask smelled more heavily fragranced than its ingredients list claimed it was. Hmm.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Interesting, @WinglessOne. Are there many sheet masks that you've found to be more moisturizing? Over the years, I've found very few. It's been my experience that most tend to focus more on boosting hydration.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@quspork  Well, the Frudia Pomegranate Nutri-Moisturizing Mask, for starters. 😉 Also, most masks that boast ceramides as a key ingredient are moisturization masks, like the Dr. Jart Ceramidin mask. The Neogence Ceramide Moisturizing Mask isn’t nearly moisturizing enough, and I haven’t tried Neogence’s Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing Mask yet—but they’re both marketed as “moisturizing.“ The OOZOO makes some very moisturizing masks, in addition to hydrating masks. I could draft up a longer list later; I’m sure other folks can name more masks.

Over the years, I’ve seen a lot of masks marketed as hydrating, but also several that boast moisturizing abilities. Most masks that claim to strengthen the skin barrier should be moisturizing. Not all of them are, sadly, but they should be.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

You're right that masks boasting ceramides, depending on where they show up in the ingredients list, may be more moisturizing, @WinglessOne @  I've found though there is often a huge difference between what some masks claim and what they produce, ha! I think sometimes it's partially a translation issue with Asian masks- hydrating and moisturizing being used more interchangeably. I'm glad you've found some of the Oozoo ones to be moisturizing. Those have all definitely leaned more hydrating for me. I probably don't lean too heavily on barrier masks tho since they're just not what I generally need or expect from a sheet mask.#

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@WinglessOne  well that's too bad on the snail one. Those seem to be a fave around here and typically work well but I guess they all can't win. On the other hand, I'm with you on the Frudia one. I am finishing up the pack of these that I have before they expire and I really enjoy reaching for this one.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@GalPalVal17  Pomegranate is my favorite Frudia mask. I’m glad you’re enjoying them! I have 11 or 12 more to use before expiration, so I’ll be rolling through them this month. This should teach me not to stockpile so many of my favorite masks unless I’m going to use them frequently. 😄

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Thanks for sharing @WinglessOne. I'm excited to hear about the frenemy mask!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@ShortErica  I did a mini review of it in the daily skincare routine thread a few days ago. I have one more of them left and will probably use it soon. 🙂

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@WinglessOne awwww that's too bad about the saem mask, I have not had such a reaction before, but luckily you picked another nice one too make up for it

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@lmaster  I get that dry-patch reaction whenever something’s not moisturizing enough for my dry zones. I’d be slightly less salty about this snail mask leaving dry patches behind if the brand didn’t claim the mask is moisturizing. It does hydrate, but doesn’t moisturize at all. Good thing I have a large arsenal of moisturizing products to make things right!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@WinglessOne yes girl! Back up to the rescue!!

RE: Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@WinglessOne, too bad The Saem snail mask didn’t work out well for you. Do you think you’d try another snail mask or is it one-and-done as far as snail masks go?

Re: RE: Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@itsfi  I’ll probably try a different snail mask at some point. I’m still curious to see what snail mucin can actually do for me (I’ve already researched it, but it’ll be fun to ask my derm about) without ticking my skin off. I’m pretty sure this mask’s failure was caused by its overall formulation, not just the snail ingredient, so I won’t let it bias me. 🙂

Re: RE: Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Hahaha! 😂 @WinglessOne, you’ll have to report back on your derm’s response about snail mucin!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Two masks in one session, @WinglessOne, you’re kinda setting the bar high here😄

Oof the heavy fragrance on the Seam mask doesn’t sound appealing. Especially if it’s perfume-y. With snail mucin in it, I would have thought it to offer a lot more nourishment for your skin. Bummer it was such a let-down.

The Frudias are nice, yes-mesh backing is very appreciated! Plus it’s less wasteful than the plastic ones that are sometimes included. I’m very curious about your ‘frenemy’ mask.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@eshoe  As with any other skincare product, a superstar ingredient in a mask can’t make up for a shoddy formula. 😞 Maybe my skin did get some imperceptible snail-related benefit, but definitely none of the brand’s claims that should’ve been quickly noticeable. Oh well.

I wish all sheet masks had a mesh backing, especially Papa Recipe Bombee Fruitables masks.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Yes, the ones with mesh are the most helpful to me, too @WinglessOne

I know you love your e.l.f., but the CosRx Snail Mucin has been pretty good to my skin, it seems to plump it immediately after use. That being said, I still need to try the e.l.f. and I see it’s back in stock now!

Alright I am finally remembering to upload one of my weekly masks, and this one happened to fit! For H & S I used the DR. JART+ - Dermask Water Jet Soothing Hydra Solution™ I’ve used many Dr. Jart+ masks before, and I do quite like them. This mask gave me mix signals, I’ll start with the good. It was incredibly soothing, and cooling. It really helped with my redness and sensitive skin. One of the best masks I’ve used to combat redness and sensitive skin for sure. The only downside was the smell! Other reviewers have said it smelt like thyme or rosemary and really enjoyed it, but it was quite off putting for me. Yet I’ll definitely use it again because of the benefits. It also had a crazy amount of serum in the package!
