Mask of the Week Misc. Info & Previous Year's Links:

To Post:
Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas.

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks - Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Haha! @missjeanie, then I'm totally guilty too!  😉

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@mrsmouse  I wonder how many expired masks I’ve used.  Probably more than I know.  It doesn’t sound too expired and nothing bad happened so no foul. 😄

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@mrsmouse  Ha, I've used masks more expired than that 🤭🤫😂 Like everyone is saying, as long as it looks and smells fine, I'm good to go! 👍
So sorry to hear your skin isn't doing so well right now! I don't *think* I've tried anything with retinol in it yet, but I have had a terrible reaction to a face product before, so I definitely know it's not fun! Hopefully you're able find something to give you some relief! 😢

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@Shosh85, I really did a number on myself this time.  I've dropped the retinol altogether for the moment, along with the vitamin c.  The ceramidin liquid seems to be my skins best friend right now, and everything has to be patted on because I cannot tug on my skin even a little without it burning.  😞

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@mrsmouse   If the thought of it doesn’t gross you out, horse oil is really nice for compromised skin.  I’m just going to keep pushing horse oil on people cause I love it so much.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@heartsmyface,  To be honest, I've never seen nor tried it before, at least that I'm aware of, I'm down if it will help!  Do you have a specific brand recommendation or place to pick it up from?  All advice is welcome as my skin is metaphorically giving me the middle finger.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@heartsmyface  I'll Google it too, but just wondering where you get your horse oil? I've never used horse oil before, but I've loved the masks I've used with it in it! I definitely need to invest in some 😃🐴🐎

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@mrsmouse  Ouch! I remember that feeling though! Glad the Ceramidin is helping! I ended up buying almost the whole lines of both the Ceramidin and Cicapair after my reaction, because even though I had a plethora of face products, smearing A&D on my face was the only thing that gave me relief 😬

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Ooooo, I should break out the Cicapair too @Shosh85!  Thanks for reminding me about that!  But hey, my face it totally long as I don't itch it, rub it, or in any way touch it.  😉

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@mrsmouse, I’m sorry your skin is suffering!! My skin can be sensitive to retinols so I haven’t done the retinol after a peel bit but I have done plenty of things after a peel that didn’t make my skin happy. 😔

No need to apologize @mrsmouse. Like @l8totheparty, I’ll use it. I’ll put it through the sight and smell test first (which isn’t a bad idea for any mask, regardless of what the stated expiration is). To me, if it looks and smells okay, a 3-4 month grace period seems fine.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

My skin has done pretty well with retinols until I went up to a 1% @itsfi.  I can't use that one more than about twice a week & I usually don't do any retinols the night or two before I am going to do a peel or the night after, but somehow I thought that since I'd been using the 1% for a while that I could get away with doing a .2%.  My skin answered that question with a resounding NO.  😞

I feel really bad about sending out an expired mask, but hopefully it will still be good and that you wind up liking it.  *Fingers crossed*

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

No worries @mrsmouse. Really. Like @Shosh85 said, masks have been used after the stated expire date. I’m going to check my bin to see if I have this one when I get home. The results you got from it sound wonderful! 😃

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

I'm still going to use it. This weekend. Hashtag maskinggoals

Glad you liked it! @mrsmouse

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

I feel so bad about sending out an expired mask @l8totheparty😞  I do hope you like too though!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

No skincare makes me hungrier than the PTR pumpkin mask ! It smells so so good and of course works amazingly as well - always a winner for me!

I also used this blueberry sheet mask which satisfies both B week and making me hungry. It’s a thin cotton mask that was well saturated. It did initially smell like very sweet/sugary blueberry but the scent didn’t linger. The fit was fine, nothing amazing. Tbh I’m never sure what exactly “energizing” means but my skin felt nice after I used it. The chin area did dry out a bit at about the 20 minute mark

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

I hear ya on the energizing aspect of sheet masks, @Kim888.  I guess we are getting an extra dose of vitamins perhaps? At least the skin gets some love.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@Kim888  Great combo!!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

That PTR is such a fave- the smell really is amazing, @Kim888!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@Kim888  Yum! Sounds like a delicious masking session! 😋 That PTR is an all-time favorite of mine and that Blueberry mask sounds yummy! Glad you enjoyed them both! 😃

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Yum @Kim888 blueberry and pumpkin!! I feel like energizing is another way to say brightening 🤷

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@Kim888  Mmmmm I totally agree about the pumpkin mask. So delicious. The blueberry mask sounds pretty decent. I always enjoy your masking posts because you often seem to post about sheet masks I've never seen before (like this particular Holika Holika) 🙂
