ARCHIVE - 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I'm sooo tired I'm using a sleep mask tonight😴

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Masking with snail mucin continues ... this time, paired with bee venom (which I'm more scared of than grossed out by).

After the success of the escargot + placenta sheet mask last night, I was feeling a little emboldened to try another “gross” mask tonight. Used the BOSCIA - Luminizing Black Charcoal Mask on my nose and chin area and then reached for the Benton Snail Bee High Content Mask PackWe were off to a good start when I opened the packet to find a light, soft and thin cotton sheet mask saturated (but not dripping) in a lightweight, clear and watery essence. The mask has no scent to it – I even stuck my nose into the packet to see if I could pick up any fragrance. None. This was going well.

In terms of fit, the sheet mask is both too long (at the chin) and too wide, but those are common fit issues for me and they’re easily remedied. Other than that, I made one minor adjustment, to the inside corners of the eye hole. This is probably one of the better fitting masks I’ve ever used; it also adheres amazingly well – feels like I have nothing on. This mask also includes eye flaps, which I did not use to cover my eyes; instead, I used them to make sure my under eye area was covered. The suggested wear time for this mask is 10-20 minutes, but I probably had the mask on for a good half hour before I removed it and patted the essence into my skin. I did not experience any redness, tingling or negative reactions with the mask. The essence absorbs easily (and quickly) into the skin, which feels slightly tacky to the touch, but that disappears once I apply my moisturizer.  I’m impressed with the results – my skin looks and feel soft, supple, hydrated and bouncy. Smiley Happy This is an “A” mask for me.

Ended with a few swipes of the FRESH - Sugar Mint Rush Freshening Lip Treatment on my lips. I don't get a mint scent from this at all, but I do feel a very nice, soft, slightly minty almost menthol-like refreshing sensation when press my lips together after applying this balm. It really is quite nice, and the balm itself feels light but moisturizing on the lips. I know the balm isn't a mask, but it gets and "A" from me. Smiley Wink

bee venom @itsfi sounds very scary uughhhhhh you are so b...

bee venom @itsfi sounds very scary uughhhhhh you are so brave!! but sounds like it was worth it 😉

Re: bee venom @itsfi sounds very scary uughhhhhh you are so b...

Nah, I’m definitely not brave @lmaster! More times than not you can put me in the “scaredy cat” group. Hahaha! 😂😂😂 I had a bee venom sheet mask (I think @Aaliaa gifted to me) and no reaction. I only recently remembered I used it before. Had I not remembered that, this one would have stayed in the bin longer.

Re: bee venom @itsfi sounds very scary uughhhhhh you are so b...

😂😂 @itsfi

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi Sounds like you got some great results from the bee mask! I still have a bee venom mask to try, but have been a little weary to try it. I feel like I should buy an epi pen first, just in case 😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I hear ya @Shosh85! Bee 🐝 venom is not something I take lightly. I did a patch test with a bee venom product on the inside of my arm before trying the sheet mask last year, because I was scared I might be allergic. It turned out fine and hence the been venom mask last year.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I’m scared of using any product with bee venom @itsfi ! I’ve been stung once so I really don’t know if I’m allergic to it ! The mask you used sounds great, but unfortunately I just can’t take the risk of going into anaphylactic shock for a sheet mask! I wish I could try it ...because you gave it an A !

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Of course @keana1! No one should use a mask when they are or may be allergic to an ingredient in it. There are plenty of “A” masks out there to try! 🙂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Balms go hand-in-hand with masking in my mind, @itsfi 😊 This sounds like a great mask, of course. To second @missjeanie, seems like the ick-factor=wow skin factor!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Lip balms go hand-in-hand with everything @eshoe!! 😂😂😂 One can never have too many, right?! 🤣

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Totally agree @itsfi! We need to take family portraits of our balms at some point, ha haSmiley Wink Unfortunately I think I have so many in ‘special’ spots that won’t remember to include 😄

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi I'm starting to think all the gross things are probably great for our skin!  I totally thought the new Fresh balm would smell like mint gum lol

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hahaha, @missjeanie! Like Doublemint gum. 😃 A mint scent would have been really nice.

Yeah, so far, both “gross” masks have had really good results. 😂

I'm kinda disappointed it doesn't have a mint scent...@it...

I'm kinda disappointed it doesn't have a mint scent...@itsfi. Good to know 😉 thanks for the mini review!

Re: I'm kinda disappointed it doesn't have a mint scent...@it...

Me too @sonnydee! I get a minty cool feeling from it, that’s all. The scent of fresh mint is so refreshing; that would have been nice.

Re: I'm kinda disappointed it doesn't have a mint scent...@it...

Sounds like a great lip balm to me @itsfi ! I don’t usually enjoy mint but I love how refreshing it can be ! Another lip balm to try ! We’re really lip balm addicts in this thread LOL 😂! YAY for lip balms! 🤩 The Milk Kush lip balm smells minty but doesn’t taste like mint, perfect ( for me, anyway! )

Re: I'm kinda disappointed it doesn't have a mint scent...@it...

@keana1 I was just looking online at the Milk Kush lip balm the other day. Do you like it? Is it moisturizing enough in the winter?

Hahaha! 😂😂😂 yeah, we have a lot of likes on this thread - masks, lip balms, skincare, food... 😃💕

Re: I'm kinda disappointed it doesn't have a mint scent...@it...

I really love the Milk Kush lip balm @itsfi  but it’s not moisturizing enough for nighttime use ! I prefer the LANEIGE or the BKR Paris Water Balm at night since they’re both thicker than the Milk one.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oooh, you picked up the new mint balm, @itsfi! I'm a sucker for the Fresh sugar lip balms, so I can't wait to add this one to the collection.
