ARCHIVE - 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Spoiler

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Spoiler
Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@missjeanie  it definitely was special 😉 thanks so much

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Friday I used the The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution for intense exfoliation. If you compare it with the DE Sukari babyfacial, it contains 5% more AHAs than the DE. I left it on for 15 minutes ( the max. recommended time is 10 minutes but I’m used to acids ) before rinsing. My skin was baby soft and not irritated at all. Grade A+ ( the same grade applies to the DE Sukari babyfacial ). Then I applied the Holika Holika Skin Rescuer Mask Sheet Madecassoside to soothe ( even though my skin wasn’t irritated ) after such a strong peel. I left it on for the suggested time, 20 minutes, and patted the remaining serum. This is a cotton mask that contains many soothing plant extracts, sodium hyaluronate, madecassoside and has no fragrance added. No modifications were needed ( I just folded the flaps over ( see @itsfi ‘s post on the Holika Holika Hyaluronic Acid Sheet Mask )). It has a lovely natural fresh scent, a bit citrusy mixed with sage. When I removed it my skin was soft and very hydrated. Grade A. I followed up by applying a thin layer of the La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Gel B5 which is an epidermal recovery gel to be used post-peeling or any potentially irritating procedure. It contains madecassoside ( which is found in the Centella Asiatica plant, otherwise known as Tiger Grass ) different silicones ( help repair scars, retain moisture and protect the skin barrier ), glycerin etc.. and called it a night. Woke up the next day with smooth, moisturized and best of all, non irritated skin after using the TO peeling solution.

Saturday I used one of my favorite clay masks, the Mario Badescu Super Collagen Mask 2 oz/ 56 g

that I already reviewed in this thread. After rinsing it off, my skin was baby soft and I continued with my normal skincare routine.TO AHA 30%+BHA 2% Peeling solution ingredients listTO AHA 30%+BHA 2% Peeling solution ingredients listLooks like I have blood on my skin! Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@keana1 you always elevate your masking to a whole new level, and educate me in the process😊 Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us! TO sounds so good (and I’m guessing would be a pretty affordable alternative to the DE). I need to give it a try sometime!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Nice combo of skincare goodies here @keana1! 😃 There’s that Mario Badescu Super Collagen Mask!! 👀 Gonna have to pick that up once I get through my mask stash!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thanks @itsfi ! I love the MB Super Collagen Mask so much, I even bought a backup! It’s so inexpensive compared to other clay masks!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@keana1 I kinda thought the same thing as @missjeanie – I saw your picture before reading your review and thought for second that you had some terrible reaction to a product!! I'm happy that wasn't the case and that your skin remained happy and un-irritated!👌 This sounds like a very nice line up of masks/products! That line of Holika Holika masks seems like such a great one – and the packaging is so pretty to look at, so that makes it even better! 😉👍 Also, i just noticed, if that sword behind you was a little bit lower, It'd look like you got stabbed! 🗡 😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I wouldn’t be smiling if my skin really was bloody @Shosh85 ! It’s not really a smile, I just hate taking pictures of myself so it’s kind of a stupid smirk! The part of the sword that’s behind me is the handle 😂 so I wouldn’t be able to stab myself 😂 ! I haven’t found a Holika Holika mask that I didn’t enjoy!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I started reading before I looked at the picture and was wondering if it was the one that looked like a blood facial! How do you find this peel compared to the DE Baby Facial?  Aside from the massive pricing difference lol!  I've used a lot of Laroche Posay products over the years, great brand!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

The TO peeling solution is a bit stronger than the DE @missjeanie . I like that it’s almost blood red so that you can see where the solution is applied and you can’t with the DE since it’s beige in color. I love them both equally but there’s a major price difference ( you already knew this ). Both aren’t available in Canada but I think that you have a PO Box in the US ? You should be able to order directly from DECIEM.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Yes, @keana1 I do! I’ve contemplated picking this up once I’m out of my Baby Facial, at that price point even if I don’t like it, I can’t be mad at it! Thanks for the recommendation! I actually kinda like the freaky blood colour... makes it fun for something different too.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

You can use it for a few minutes during Halloween when kids come trick or treating at your door @missjeanie ! Maybe you’ll scare them when you open your door! BOO ! Joke’s on them HA HA !

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Halloween... I'll just do it on a random Tuesday... better reaction that way! lol @keana1

oh this is great @keana1 I will definitely be looking int...

oh this is great @keana1 I will definitely be looking into TO, this is one I've not tried either!

Berrisom Face Wrapping Mask Hyaluronic Solution 80

This is a thin, two-piece mask, they describe as a, "dual matrix sheet mask," with a "micro wrapping layer" on the outside and a cellulose layer that touches your skin. I'm not quite sure what "micro wrapping" means, but it has a foil kind of look, except it was very sheer – almost see-through, and had the same function/benefit a foil mask does – it prevents the ingredients from escaping the skin through evaporation. The mask uses 80% hyaluronic acid, which is what the "80" in the title refers to. It adhered well and had a great fit – the nose flap was just a bit too long. It was drenched with a sort of thick, slimy serum, that had a very light floral scent. I kept the mask on for about a half hour. When I removed it my face was still covered in serum, even though the outside felt dried up. I patted in the serum and it was very tacky. It didn't take too long for the serum to absorb, but the tackiness was still there. My face looked brighter, felt plumper and very hydrated. It also had a sort of glow that had a light greasy look to it, but didn't feel greasy at all. I applied some moisturizer and my skin felt soft and smooth, the tackiness was gone and there was more of a natural glow instead of a greasy-looking one. I give this one an A-, because of the tackiness.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I just read the ingredients list and 80 probably isn’t the % of hyaluronic acid in this mask because it’s in the lower half of the ingredients list @Shosh85 as sodium hyaluronate ? It still sounds quite hydrating and moisturizing ! Like @eshoe asked, where did you find this mask? You’re the Queen of foil masks!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@keana1 Yeah, I still don't know how they came up with that, it just said on the package that "it uses 80% hyaluronic acid to provide long lasting hydration" – maybe the solution itself contains 80% HA, not that it makes up 80% of the ingredients. 🤔 Not too sure about that, but it did give some great hydration nonetheless👍 It also says it contains roughly 30 ml worth of essence – I'm not exactly sure how accurate that is, but it did certainly have a lot! 😃

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

The important thing is that it gave you hydration @Shosh85 ! Regardless of the 80% whatever, it’s not really clear ? Sounds like a good mask to have when your skin is dry!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85 I love the pearlescent look of this mask!  It sounds (and looks) like a great one, where did you find it?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe It is super pretty! – the packaging is so boring too, so it was a nice surprise😃

I think I picked it from Kohl's, but I didn't see it the last time I was there. I did notice it's online there and a few other sites as well.  @keana1

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thank you @Shosh85, I know I’ve tried a Berrisom mask or two just don’t recall what I thought of them. I will keep an eye out for this one:)

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thanks @Shosh85 ! I have no idea if Kohl’s delivers to Canada? I’ll have to check! My aunt lives in the USA and there’s a Kohl’s near her condo, I could ask her if she can order some but I think I have enough masks to last for about 2 months! The Banobagi foil ones are more interesting though IMO ! Maybe I should invest into the Banobagi masks instead? So many choices 🤯
