Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Spoiler

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

Spoiler
Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Re: side note: planning my week of masking for next week- san...

@sonnydee  Ooh can’t wait to hear what you think. Right now just my nose is oily and the rest of my face is dry, so maybe I could just do a nose mask? Smiley Happy

Re: side note: planning my week of masking for next week- san...

Just added it to the list @sonnydee! Thank you😊👍🏼

@PrettyPaint I do use this about once a week, it doesn't...

@PrettyPaint I do use this about once a week, it doesn't dry my skin. my pores do look smaller after using and my redness is diminished as well

Re: @PrettyPaint I do use this about once a week, it doesn't...

That sounds good @lmaster . I have always had larger pores than I would like, so hopefully mine will look smaller as well. Thanks so much!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@PrettyPaint I tried it a while ago, but I don't have sensitive skin, so I'm not much help with that. It had some great results but it did dry me out a bit (which isn't surprising since I have dry/dehydrated skin) It's great for brightening/clearing your complexion, shrinks pores and makes your skin super soft and smooth! It doesn't specify if it's ok for sensitive skin, because Im sure everyone reacts differently to certain things, but it does have some good ingredients and is silicone and paraben free - so that's a good sign! It does have a bit of a tingle too, so that's something to be aware of. On their website it does say that if you do have sensitive skin, you should do a patch test on your inner elbow first.

Here's their ingredient list:

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thank you so much @Shosh85 . That’s really helpful, and I feel better knowing you tried it and didn’t have any issues. My skin behaves differently depending on the season. Right now I’m completely dry from the cold, so maybe I’ll wait to use it when the weather warms up and my skin gets a bit more oily. I enjoy a bit of a slight tingle, so that’s good with me! Thanks so much!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@PrettyPaint I think it's a great idea to wait for summertime! I really liked using the mask as a spot treatment – it really does help clear up blemishes well! It's on my list to buy again, once I clear out a couple other masks in my stash. 😉👍 @itsfi

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85  That’s a great idea. I had never thought to use a mask like a spot treatment, but I think that’s what I’ll do for now...just put it on blemishes and my oily-ish nose.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@PrettyPaint That's usually what I do with masks that are too drying for a full face – just put it on the parts that need it most. 😉👍

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@PrettyPaint, your skin sounds similar to mine - I’m dehydrated-dry now but get a bit more oily in the summer. Gotta love how it changes with the seasons! 😂🤣😂 I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Sand & Sky after you’ve had a chance to try it out in the warmer months.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi  I’ll definitely post here once I give it a try. I think I will try it sooner than summertime but just apply it to the less dry areas for now (like maybe my nose and forehead). My cheeks need no extra dryness currently! Smiley Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I hear ya @PrettyPaint! My cheeks are like the desert and my nose and occasionally my chin, are like oil fields - hahaha! Smiley Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@lmaster didn’t you try this one, can’t remember for sure but I thought you did...

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thanks for tagging her @eshoe  Smiley Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

You're welcome @PrettyPaint! I've only seen it on here a few times, not once yet this year though. @sonnydee maybe has tried it, too?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe  Thanks so much! I just feel more reassured before trying something new when someone else here has tried it Smiley Happy  And all of you have much more masking experience than myself.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Saturday night masking excitement:

masksat.jpgHurrah!, Osmia Organics, Beyond, Lush & Origins

Spoiler

The Osmia Adzuki Bean Nourishing Mask is a very pretty clay-powder which is blended with a small amount of water and used as either a quick cleanse or a deep mask. The brand’s site lists sandalwood, lavender and geranium oils; I did not detect any of those but something more like fresh straw. Kind of ok but kind of not.

After applying carefully (the ground quinoa and beans provide exfoliation; why do the majority of masks have some sort of chemical/physical exfoliating aspect?) I let it rest for a few minutes. As it dried I felt my skin being pulled tighter, and tighter, and tighter...until it became a wee bit painful and I rinsed it off to find my face was covered in hives. This has never happened to me, and I have never used a mask with adzuki beans so I guess they are out🤷🏻‍♀️

I did some quick research, apparently there are bean allergies (duh, soybeans) but I eat edamame regularly so this took me by surprise. 25 minutes later and my face is red and itchy. I have to fail this one but maybe it works great for others; just not for me.

IMG_7159.jpeg

The Beyond Herb Garden Peony is nice but fragrance was strong though it’s last on the list. Which makes me seriously wonder about all those chemicals that are last on the list but we pass off thinking the effects are so minimal. This fragrance is definitely NOT minimal! The fit was great, but with my itchy skin I wear it only 10 minutes before removing. A nice mask, one that might have been a favorite for me a year ago but I am just ready to be done with Laura Ashley week at this point; A B- for this one.

Followed up with the usual, this morning my skin is back to normal.
ETA: I neglected to mention the ORIGINS - Drink Up™ Intensive Overnight Hydrating Mask with Avocado & Swiss Glacier Water I ended up not using it last night as I just wanted to use some unscented products on my irritated skin. I have used it a couple of times and LOVE it, thank you @MissPuff! The scent is very similar to the Apricot, and is such a very pleasant final step in hydrating my skin before sleep Smiley Happy

@eshoe when I took a look at the ingredients of my placen...

@eshoe when I took a look at the ingredients of my placenta stinging mask, the placenta was soybean...I dont eat soybeans but the one time- I did at the Tampa Aquarium all they had was soy this..soy that. I had a soy burger & let's just say it didnt agree with me at all.🤭 You might be on to something with bean allergies/sensitivity never thought it would affect me in skincare though. yikes to the hives!

Re: @eshoe when I took a look at the ingredients of my placen...

Huh @sonnydee you might be on to something here. Plenty of people can be intolerant and not allergic to things, still affects them but it's usually just in an unpleasant way and not life-threatening. Being that your skin is so sensitive, it would make complete sense. Thanks for bringing that up, I wouldn't have put the two together. You are so helpfulSmiley Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Glad your skin is doing better after having used the Osmia Adzuka mask, @eshoe! It's crazy how small allergies can show up in skincare and produce such negative  reactions sometimes.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Yes I am so thankful it cleared up quickly and didn’t get worse. @itsfi was wise to ask if I had any antihistamines on hand, and I did, but didn’t even think to use them🙄 This gives me a great 💡!!! A masking emergency kit😂
