ARCHIVE - 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

😱 @heartsmyface I’ve only done it a thousand times in my life, I’m pretty sure of it😄

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

lol @heartsmyfaceI'm sure the beauty gods forgive you!  lol we've all done it before!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@missjeanie LOL I kinda cheat at it haha. I wake up, do my pre-mask skincare, then put the mask on and go back to bed, and watched a Netflix show or something for half an hour, and then “woke up” at my normal time 😂😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Glad to hear this worked out for you, @cianni!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I just want to say thank you to all the maskers who make BIC so much fun! You all have no idea how much I appreciate the posts, comments, pics, and masking adventures we all share. You are the best, and if it weren't for you, I wouldn't have so many belly laughs, weird food cravings, and gross ingredient encounters (still my favorite week). <3 all of you, Happy International Women's Day!!!

Survey will be up until Sunday to give more people a chance to answer 's ? - this is the biggest response we've had yet so I'm really excited to share the results.

Yesterday's AM masking:

Prreti.jpgSephora, Prreti & Je:ju

This morning I started off with the a favorite balm of mine thanks the the enabling of @Shosh85, the SEPHORA COLLECTION - Lip Balm & Scrub. Then I applied a good layer of the Jeju:en Centella Green Tea Wash Off Wask. I’ve used this a few times and really enjoy it as a clay mask. It has a very pleasant mint/herbal tea scent with a few tea leaves throughout; pic belowSmiley Happy It dries down almost completely but doesn’t make my skin feel too tight. The biggest minus is that it is SUCH a pain to clean off, especially with the leaves. But they make it a very beautiful mask, and I like the scent, so it’s a good A-/B+ for me.
Cantella texture.jpg
The Prreti Cleanse Juice One Pack Moisture ChokChok Kohlrabi looked very exciting to me. the ingredient list is promising with Sodium Hyaluronate as the 5th on list, followed by all kinds of fruit extracts including kohlrabi, purslane (a common weed known for being high in Omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants) blackberry, raspberry, cranberry blueberry and honey. Last on the list is fragrance, so I’m already suspicious.

When I opened the packet, the artificial ‘clean and fresh’ detergent scent hit me strong. So much that I contemplated not even trying the mask, but I have another (there were a few ‘varieties’) and I want to get my $ worth. Besides, maybe the scent would fade. Which it did not. I left it on for about 10 minutes and every inhale was noxious, so I finally removed. It’s a shame because it fit really well. I did rinse my face to get the scent off. A D+ for this one, because the fit and light-weight mask were quite nice.

PM Masking:

Sorry.jpgbkr, iM1NE, & Omorovicza

The BKR - Paris Water Balm is a favorite and was founded by two women, Kate Cutler and Tal Winter. Always an A+ for me. The OMOROVICZA - Silver Skin Savior Salicylic/Glycolic Acid Treatment has colloidal silver and a blend of salicylic and glycolic acids, so I knew I wouldn’t be leaving it on for the full 10-15 minutes. The ingredients are said to reduce inflammation and help with pigmentation, which I think might be more evident if used regularly. The scent is the same as their mist, but better than I remember. Like a fancy tea tree oil? As I applied it my skin felt little pricks all over, like I was having acupuncture on my face. At least now I know to remember antihistamines, thanks to @itsfi Smiley Happy

It subsided after about 4 minutes, and I left it on 1 minutes more before rinsing off. My skin was a little red on my checks and forehead, and felt a little warm though not to the touch. My guess is that my skin’s sensitivity has increased since using the retinol; I’ve never had issues with masks burning/irritating/causing redness to this degree and frequency. I would love to try this mask again after my skin has grown accustomed to the Passioni.

The iM1NE Labs I’m Sorry For My Skin S.O.S. Jelly Mask-Calming lured me in because it’s too easy to identify with the picture on the front Smiley Wink Like most jelly masks, it’s a bit of a challenge to unfold. It was a bit long and tucked well under my chin, with some extra at the sides as well. Otherwise the fit was good. The scent was a typical eau de sheet mask, not overwhelming but it remained present the entire time. The serum was the excitement-little gold flakes floated in the jelly-serum like a Goldschlager mask! Which, as I went down the list of ingredients and found alcohol (not the good kind, either), wasn’t that far off from the truth.
SOS texture.jpgClose-up of the S.O.S. serum
Looking in the mirror, my skin was so very plumped. This combo was fantastic; but knowing that results are temporary, I wouldn’t repeat it.

It took quite awhile for the tackiness to dry down once I removed it 15 minutes later. I would give this one a B-/C+, I wouldn’t repurchase but the picture and gold flakes were funSmiley Wink Followed up with the OMOROVICZA - Midnight Radiance Mask.
While it's not my favorite, it's a nice sleeping mask. It does leave my skin feeling tacky. I think I will try it as a wash-off mask next time.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

The Je:ju wash off mask sounds so interesting @eshoe! Do you think washing the mask off in the shower 🚿 would make it easier to take off?

Ack! That Prreti mask does not sound fun at all! So sorry about the smell; scent can make a masking session enjoyable and relaxing or it can make you want to rip the mask off immediately.

Thank you to you eshoe, @Aaliaa and everyone on this thread and the previous one. 🤗🤗 Masking regularly, with wash off masks or sheet masks, has been really good for my skin, and laughing and learning about masks with everyone here has been such a joy and something I look forward to after a long day of work! ♥️

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Laughter is the best medicine @itsfi, and this thread has provided plenty of it😄 The side-effects are a nice bonus I will happily acceptSmiley Happy

ps yes I will take that mask in-shower next time (is there a fancy way to say that lol?)

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I did the survey and now I am having doubts about my answer.  It’s not a black and white question.  😂. It makes it hard to answer without a comment section!  @eshoe

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I was afraid of that @heartsmyface of the "grey area" but didn't want to make it to complicated so think of it has the majority of the time my skin likes/prefers/responds better to.....thank you @eshoe for all your hard work on this thread & the surveys😘

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Good point @heartsmyface. I can easily add a comments section. If you want to PM me your response I can delete it and you do it againSmiley Happy I don’t see BIC names associated with answers otherwise I would just do that🤔

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe I have loved all the Sephora balms and scrubs – though I'd have to say the honey is my favorite! 👍 Glad you've enjoyed them!

Its too bad about the strong scent in the Prreti mask! The ingredients sound so good! I'm pretty sure I couldn't do this one either.

The Je:Ju mask sounds so great! These are the types of masks I like to jump in the shower and wash off – definitely less of a mess that way! Happy you liked this one! 😊

You do SO much on this thread and I am so appreciative of you!! This is such a fun thread! 😍❤️

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

So far my expeditions into Target masking have been less-than-stellar @Shosh85 with the exception of the Peach Slices.

BTW, I went to Ulta today with my $5 off 10 coupon and look what I found!

B81CB174-0E3F-431E-9FB7-212FE9059507.jpegThe Oozoo!!! In store!!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe Yeah, at Target there seems to be more online than in-store for sure!

I was planning on making an Ulta run next week and now I'm even more excited! 🙌😍

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85 I have been waiting for this day for so long😂 though they didn’t have the Rose capsule or the Aurora, I made sure to find the manager to share how much I appreciate having these masks available in store. He said they have only been there 6 days and no one else has commented yet, so I told him which ones I think are good. They would be SO nice to buy this way instead trying to fill up an online cart😊

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

This is making me so excited to get to an Ulta store @eshoe !! It's been way too long! So many pretty masks!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

There was even more than in the picture @missjeani, looked like the entire Oh!K line. Hoping they stock Dearpacker in-store soon as well. I never use the $3.50 off coupons because it’s just not worth it/don’t need anything. But this is SO nice!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoeI'm not positive but I believe the Oh!k is stocked at my drugstore.  I'll have to keep an eye out next time I'm there.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I’ve seen them recently at my CostPlus but that’s it, @missjeanie. I fell in love with their eye mask but at $5 a pop it’s a special occasion mask for me😊

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe  I’ll have to keep that in mind when I’m looking! Always looking for eye masks!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

They are so beautiful @missjeanie but seriously I cannot do $5 a night for eye masks😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe oooo I have the omorovicza mask and have not tried it yet. Sounds pretty decent. Booooo for alcohol, but the gold is super pretty 😍 you are the best! Very thoughtful and caring to put all the effort into all this on a daily basis,, thanks so much 😘
