ARCHIVE - 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Perk up pickles omg yesssss I love it @eshoe (how is there no pickle emoji?) 🥒

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

The sad thing is, @cianni -it's probably great for your skin Smiley Very Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

LOL @eshoe  a little double masking situation, pickles for tightening and cucumber, pickle’s less salty cousin, for soothing 😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

DIY week, @cianni 😆

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoeoh my gosh... the packaging on this!  I thought for a minute you were just doing a DIY mask with a jar of sauerkraut!  lol Good thing this wasn't still "smells great" week, but nice that it works!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

April Fool’s @missjeanie 😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

well..... dang. lol

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

This may have been a good one for gross week, lol.  I love the taste of sourcrout on a smokie or a Reuben sandwich but the thought of spreading it on my face makes me want to gag.  @eshoe

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Me too, @heartsmyface! It’s April 1stSmiley Wink

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oh phew!   At least it wasn’t real.  Ha, cruel.  I totally believed it was a real thing.  🤣 It’s masks we’re talking about so it was very plausible that you found a sourcrout one! 😂 @eshoe

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Lol @eshoe I saw this earlier and thought I really hope this is an April fools joke😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

There’s only so much I will do for my skin, @faeriegirl Smiley Very Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Imagine how good you’d smell for the rest of the day!  😂🤣😂🤣 @eshoe

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Yesterday I had a peel by the Dr. Dennis Gross team (it was soo good! The results are still visible today - yay!), but earlier that morning, I decided to give some attention to my jawline and neck, particularly concentrating where I tend to have clogged pores, am prone to breakouts, and have some acne scars that I've been working on fading away..

I didn't know what to expect from the KORA ORGANICS - Turmeric 2-in-1 Brightening & Exfoliating Mask, but let me just say, it's lovely; well, the results are lovely. The product itself doesn't look too pretty (see spoilers) but it's about the results. I picked this one because I recently received it as a sample and was interested in how well it worked and thinking about it now, it fits in the letter of the week (for yesterday) - M is for Miranda Kerr, the founder of Kora Organics. I know...I know... it's a bit of a stretch. This one has a little bit of a turmeric scent, which makes sense given that's one of the main ingredients. It's not bad at all, but if you're not fond of turmeric, then you should pass. The granules are neither too small nor too large and you get a good scrub from it - it's not harsh but it's not gentle either - you can definitely feel the exfoliating going on. I've only used it once, but it seems like it does a nice job of getting in there and sloughing away dead skin. It also made the area where I applied it look brighter. I still have a few more uses in this foil and plan to use it again.

M is for MARIO BADESCU - Lip Balm This one is noyce. It's got a good consistency to it - not too runny, not too thick; doesn't sit on top of my lips but absorbs nicely. It has a very faint scent to it - subtly sweet and a bit like coconut, but it doesn't taste like coconut (I did try). I'm pleased that I picked this one up. GLAMGLOW - THIRSTYMUD™ Hydrating Treatment Mask very much smells like coconuts, like a tropical vacation and is one of my favorite smelling masks! This is also one of my "go to" masks for hydration and can be used as a wash off mask, an overnight mask or a daytime moisturizer. I like using it as the latter two. It's light but really hydrating. I scraped out the very last bit of it yesterday to use as a moisturizer, so now I just have to decide whether to pick up another full size or a mini during the sale.

oh yeah @itsfi hmmm not so sure about the looks of that 😅 but I do really like kora 🤔

Re: oh yeah @itsfi hmmm not so sure about the looks of that ...

Hahaha @lmaster! 😂 The mask itself is definitely not pretty looking but it gives some nice results! 👌🏼

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I don’t think Miranda is a stretch at all, @itsfiSmiley Wink So glad you included a pic of the the mask, it looks like split pea soup😆 and definitely NOT what I would expect. I just received that sample as well and can’t wait to try it now!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe, when I saw what it looked like, I knew I had to let others know. It was not what I was expecting. 😳

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi that is NOT what I expected the turmeric mask to look like! I’ve been wary of anything with turmeric because I never leave anything on for the recommended time and I’ve been scared of it staining my skin

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

You and me both @cianni! 😂 I was afraid of it staining too so I left it on for the minimum amount of time and set the timer on my phone so I wouldn’t forget!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi I hate to say it, but that Kora looks like something I'd find in an infants diaper! Haha! I've never been one to turn down gross looking masks though, especially if it has great results! 😂👶🏻

Thank you so much for sharing your DDG experience with us! It sounds like you had such a wonderful time and made out with some great products! So happy to hear you saw some fantastic results! 😃
