ARCHIVE - 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85 melon sounds like it would be so nice for summer @eshoe!. I can already feel like I'll own all three at some point lol

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Most likely you do @missjeanie 😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

lol... not the bliss ones quite yet.  I only picked up one so far @eshoe I was practicing restraint bahaha!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It takes a lot of willpower for me not to break open my jar of the Dr. Perricone Cocoa Moisture Mask whenever I see someone post about it, @eshoe! Your cocoa-marshmallow-peppermint Christmas masking theme sounds amazing! I think you and the little masker should make 'smores and have peppermint hot chocolate (with marshmallows, of course) when you do your Christmas masking theme!

Good to know about that lip scrub; I've eyed it at the store a few times, but (and this is uncharacteristic of me) decided to walk away and pass on it. LOL!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Yes it’s April and I’m already thinking about Christmas @itsfi it’s never too early! I love your idea, filing it in my mental to-do list as the time approachesSmiley Wink

Wise decision  to walk away. Thankfully mine is just a sample, it’s the second lip scrub I’ve come across where once is enough😆

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I completely agree, @eshoe - it’s never too early! Maybe Christmas in April? 😆😊

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe I'm glad you enjoy the Cocoa mask, but sorry you're having difficulty popping the beads. The beads are a little tricky to pop for me to sometimes. It can get a little messy, but sometimes it helps if I rub them together in my hands/fingers first. The scent on this one is definitely delicious!🍫😋

Sorry the no:hj mask irritated your skin! The material sounds so nice and it really does have some pretty packaging!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I am going to try that next time, @Shosh85 - great suggestion for rubbing that mask in my hands first! Thank you😊

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe  :-( I feel like you have a defective one - I haven't had an issue with my beads popping either. Sorry the other mask didn't work out for you - never good when it makes you itchy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

At least I know it’s not me @Kim888 😄 I try!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe I don't understand why your cocoa beads won't pop!! Mine always do 🤔 ok when you find something marshmallow and peppermint please tag me... That sounds amazing and I definitely would love to try a mask like that!!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

They turn brown in the sink @lmaster, I’ve tried massaging water on my face, rubbing them for a solid minute, nada. That’s fine, the scent is amazing so I don’t mindSmiley Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

That is crazy @eshoe but yes the scent is delicious 😍

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I got up earlier than I wanted to this morning and couldn’t get back to sleep so I decided to mask, starting with the AMOREPACIFIC - Treatment Enzyme Peeling Masque.  I picked this DS up as a promo and was excited to try it after reading @sonnydee’s post on it.  I’ve used this mask a couple of times now and I have to say it’s pretty impressive. I didn’t have very high expectations of this mask even though I love a lot of AmorePacific items; I thought it was just the AP enzyme treatment peel (which I love) in a mask form. This one has a gel-cream texture and actually transforms from a gel out of the tube to a creamy mask when applied to the skin. It’s rich without being heavy and exfoliating without being harsh or rough. It has a noticeable scent that lingers for a bit before fading away; if you’re sensitive or allergic to fragrance, you might want to pick up a sample in store to see if it’s bothersome.

Both times that I’ve used this AP mask, I noticed my skin felt and looked cleansed, refreshed and bright immediately after. This morning though instead of following up the mask with my regular skincare routine, I waited to see if there were any other skin results from the mask throughout the morning so I just went about with my morning activities. A few hours later, I noticed that my skin did not feel dry, and, in fact, it felt lightly moisturized. I was really surprised by this, especially since I didn’t use any skincare products after the AP mask.  I’m very pleased and impressed with the results and, despite the hefty price tag attached to this one, I would consider picking up a full size … but likely during the fall/winter Rouge sale.  @CookieGirl1, I think you asked about this mask. It's a good one and one I will probably pick up later in the year.

For tonight’s masking session, I started with the Nature Republic Pomegranate Hydro Gel Mask, a two-piece hydrogel mask that has a nicely subtle fruity scent to it. This particular hydrogel was a little tricky to keep on, primarily below the nose and around the mouth; the mask is a bit slippery there. Other than that, the fit was relatively fine. Directions suggested leaving the mask on for 10-20 minutes and I had it on for about 25 minutes. I looked and felt refreshed and hydrated and there was a slight brightness to my complexion. Overall the mask is fine – it’s not bad at all, but it’s not a standout.  There are other hydrogel masks that do the same or better job, without the slippage issues. I wouldn’t go out of my way to repurchase this one but if I had another one of these mask, I’d use it.

After the hydrogel mask, I reached for the DRUNK ELEPHANT - Lippe Balm. No surprise to anyone, I typically use DE Lippe Balm as a lip balm. After reading that @missjeanie use the DE Lippe Balm as a balm for the under eye area (and loving the results), however, I decided to use the Lippe Balm as an under eye balm and …  very nice! It felt like my under eye area received an extra dose of moisture. Thanks for the idea / recommendation @missjeanie! It was super helpful!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi I haven't tried too many AP products, but this one sounds wonderful! I'm definitely putting this on the "sooner than later" list! 😉

Too bad the Nature Republic mask wasn't too impressive. I really like the two piece mask and the scent sounds great! I'm glad it wasn't a total flop! 😃

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85, the AP peel has been really great for keeping the breakouts I get periodically under control. I think my feelings on the Nature Republic suffers from my having used so many masks - it's a decent enough mask but having used a lot of mask, I know there are other masks that are just as good, if not better, at the same or better price point.

@itsfi the amorepacific mask sounds incredible! especiall...

@itsfi the amorepacific mask sounds incredible! especially if you felt some moisturizing benefits 😍 that's a great idea you guys!! under the eye... why didn't I think of that @missjeanie

Re: @itsfi the amorepacific mask sounds incredible! especiall...

@itsfi @lmaster  I think I noticed that it could be used as an eye balm after searching for an eye cream that would help when my skin was hurting.  Sephora had it marked as an eye cream and when I checked the DE site they said it could be used that way.  I don't do it all the time, but I've even rubbed the balm on my entire face after some -45 degree windburn issues.  Such a nice way to have multi uses for the product.  I'm so glad you tried it out and it worked out okay!

Re: @itsfi the amorepacific mask sounds incredible! especiall...

I believe it says it on the tube as well, @missjeanie - I've tried it and it's quite nice (any easy-peasy for lazy days Smiley Wink )

Re: @itsfi the amorepacific mask sounds incredible! especiall...

I just had mine out tonight @eshoe , so easy to keep on hand and apply without any mess!

Re: @itsfi the amorepacific mask sounds incredible! especiall...

@missjeanie that's great you seen that info and passed your knowledge on 😘
