ARCHIVE - 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

This sheet mask has a huuuuge fan base @lmaster! I'm saving it for "U" week because U is for Unicorn. Smiley Happy  Mmmmm.... strawberry ice cream. Yum. That sounds so good and it is lunchtime ... I'll have a salad to balance things out. Hahaha! Hope it helps your blemish to take a hike!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi I'm sure the sweets are not helping the blemish 😅

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Happy Friday masking friends! Smiley Happy Honey was the ingredient of choice for this morning’s masking session.

AMOREPACIFIC - Treatment Enzyme Peel Cleansing Powderis a gentle and effective powder to foam exfoliating cleanser that the brand says you can use morning and night on a daily basis but that just seems like a lot to me. It is exceptionally gentle so I don’t doubt it could be used daily, but twice a day every day seems a bit much. I typically rinse my face in the morning with water and/or a washcloth but, depending on what’s going on with my skin, I will usually reach for this AP peel 1-2 times per week. It’s one of those products that you think is good when you use it, but you know just how good on those weeks where you skip it entirely. This is my second DS and I have an “extra-deluxe” sample waiting in the wings when I get through this one so it’ll be a while before I run out of this one (phew!), but it will be a repurchase when I run out of it. Another product that I repurchase (though I do this even if I’m not running low on it), and falling under the “BIC made me do it” camp (thank you @mermadelove) is the    SEPHORA COLLECTION - Lip Balm & Scrub - Honey – this is one of my favorite products from the entire Sephora Collection. It’s a lip balm / scrub I don’t ever want to be without.

The Papa Recipe Bombee Green Honey Mask Pack is the most recent addition to the Papa Recipe Bombee Honey Mask line. Honey, propolis and royal jelly extracts and sodium hyaluronate make up the core of the masks in the brand’s honey line; the different varieties tout different additional notable ingredients. This Green Honey mask gets its “green” moniker from the addition of avocado and parsley in it. The mask has a light green tint to it, is about the standard thickness of most sheet mask, and feels like a cross between a cotton sheet mask and one made of microfiber; I like the material – it adheres nicely to the contours of my face and feels very soft against my skin. The shape and fit of this one is different than the Black Honey mask I tried earlier in the week and I attribute the differences to this being a new product to the line – whereas the Black Honey one was a near perfect fit for me, this one required a teensy bit more adjustments; specifically, it was longer at the chin, jawline and nose, and the holes for the eyes and mouths were noticeably smaller / tighter but without it being uncomfortable. I left it on for the recommended 30 minutes and noticed that my complexion looked fresh and bright and it seemed to bring down some redness around a pesky spot on my cheek. My skin also felt soft and bouncy. My skin felt more hydrated and moisturized with the Black Honey Mask, but that’s not to say this Green Honey one didn’t provide hydration because it did, just less of it than the other mask. This one could work as well for folks with normal, combo or slightly oily skin.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi The Papa Recipe mask sounds great! I really need to try mine soon! I think the only one that hasn't sounded too good to me was the ginseng one, but that's mostly due to the smell. I'm glad this worked out well! 👍😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85, yeah, that’s the thing about scents - they can definitely turn you off from a mask. The ginseng scent does come through on that one. This green honey mask is a good one - I love that it has avocado 🥑  in it too. Am interested in hearing what you think of the Papa Recipe masks after you’ve used them.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

They all sound great @itsfi! I just got the rose lip balm now I want to get the honey too!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

The rose lip balm is very nice @faeriegirl! I've really enjoyed all the lip balms / scrubs in the line that I've tried!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@byme4u, the Tatcha and AP powders have different textures. The Tatcha one, to me, is denser and grittier, even though it is pretty finely milled; it feels grittier on the skin compared to the AP peel. The Tatcha one feels like a gentle scrub while the AP granules are so finely milled that when you add water to it, it turns into a foam and the exfoliation feels even more gentle than the Tatcha one. I've used the Tatcha powder before, as well as the Dermalogica one, the boscia one and one other Kbeauty one that I can't recall at the moment and my favorite of them is the AP peel.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Your review makes me even more excited to try the Papa Recipe masks I have, @itsfi! I didn’t realize also that the AP could be used twice a day-that does sound alike a lot, I agree. Plus imagine how much faster you’d go through your stash if you used it that way😄 It is lovely for sure💗

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I thought twice daily with the AP peel sounded like it was too much @eshoe, but it says to use as a cleanser day and night. I suppose it could be used that frequently as it's so gentle, but I like to incorporate peels and other chemical exfoliants into my skincare routine so every day, even if just once per day, would still be too much.  Which Papa Recipe masks do you have? The Black Honey one is really nice for dry skin. The rose gold one has a pretty honeycomb design on it.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oh, the green honey sounds right up my alley, @itsfi! I can't wait to try that one out!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I think you'd like it @quspork! The essence in it is not too heavy and makes it work for more than just dry skin.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Your love for the Sephora lip scrubs has me eagerly waiting the spring sale so that Honey can come home to mama @itsfi !

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Their lip scrubs are great for use every day and night because they're that gentle, @missjeanie. I still like to use a grittier lip scrub once a week, but that and the honey lip scrub for maintenance throughout the week makes for nice, soft, smooth lips. <3

wow this sounds great @itsfi I need this volcano on my ch...

wow this sounds great @itsfi I need this volcano on my cheek to get going 🤣

Re: wow this sounds great @itsfi I need this volcano on my ch...

@lmaster, do you have a clay/mud mask or a mask with salicylic acid in it that you could use as a spot treatment? Or the PEACE OUT - Acne Healing Dotsor something similar to it?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi I'm ready to look like a fool. Is the SEPHORA COLLECTION - Lip Balm & Scrub a scrub or a balm or how is it both? I know you and many others ( @eshoe  off the top of my head) have shared varieties of it and enjoy the product. My sample of the BITE BEAUTY - Agave Sugar Lip Scrub seemed nice at first and then ended up tearing my lips so I've been thinking I should invest in a gentle scrub for occasional lip exfoliation.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@ShortErica the Sephora lip scrubs are incredibly gentle. When I modest tried the Honey Scrub, I was confused because it seemed more like a balm; there were only a few exfoliating granules. As I used it, I hit a patch of them. They were not evenly dispersed! They are similar (in my mind) to the fresh sugar lip scrubs but much more economical.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I may need to give it a try. Though I wish they would have the granules evenly distributed so the experience would be consistent. @eshoe

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Me too @ShortErica I recall someone else noticing it as well. Still a great product in my mind, especially for the price.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oh nooo @ShortErica, the BITE is tearing up your lips?!! I'm so sorry to hear that. Betrayed by your lip scrub. Boo! Do you think it's just the BITE scrub or the combination of the harsh winter cold is making the product more rough?

Great question - the Sephora Collection has several different flavors - the honey and the kiwi ones are the two that are both a balm and a scrub. Both are very, very gentle. My kiwi one seems to have lost its scrubbiness (sigh), but I like it as a balm so it's fine. The other flavors in the collection are just balms - rose, gogi, banana, watermelon, coconut, rose, tangerine ... there may be other flavors I'm forgetting to mention.  @Shosh85 has the entire lip balm/scrub collection - it's a beautiful sight to behold! <3
