ARCHIVE - 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Bedtime @Shosh85 and hopefully no one wakes up!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I'll give you an exact later but my sheet masks were hovering around 250 between using and then buying 10 packs @missjeanie

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

  • 261 sheet masks
  • 25 wash offs (though 10 are one time use wash off samples/packets)
  • 16 eye masks + 16 Skyn Iceland eye gels (not sure why I needed to count them separately..haha!)
  • Handful of miscellaneous (lip, hand, foot, neck) which I'll probably use by the end of the year
  • 2 lip scrubs from wonderful unicorn mail + 7 lip masks (my Bite and Laneige purchases from last Christmas)
  • A ridiculous, though really only 3 tubes, of those black masks that you peel off your nose. I have to try the one @lmaster sent that is Candy O'Lady but the other two I have don't do much.

Hopefully this makes you feel a bit better. I may not be quite up to your level but I've got more than one face needs.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

You really took inventory @ShortErica !!  I bought another 10 pack today.  dope.  I guess I'm up to 623 now.  But I plan to give away lots of the ones I got today!! lol. Your collection sure has grown over this year too!  This thread created monsters!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I think I know a few enablers to blame @missjeanie 🤔

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@ShortErica That is quite a thorough count! Love it! Thanks for sharing 👍 I'll be counting mine soon, but I'll start with the sheet masks first 😬

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I is for IcingB9C76A82-9311-4925-BD9F-A2F872CF90F7.jpeg

This morning I used A’Pieu icing sweet bar mask pack. It was a thin sheet that had a very strong orange scent. It was dripping with serum. The fit was pretty good I only had to make small adjustments to the eye holes. I left it on for 25 minutes and there was still plenty of serum left to massage into my face and neck. It absorbed nicely and had minimal tackiness. My face did look brighter and felt hydrated. I would definitely use this one again.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

This sounds like a nice mask @faeriegirl, I think my CVS even carries these, yay!

I don't have this one @faeriegirl and orange sounds so so...

I don't have this one @faeriegirl and orange sounds so so good!! I wasn't too fond of the watermelon version of this one, but so far, the pineapple and melon I've tried have been excellent

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@faeriegirl I really liked the results on this one, but the scent seemed a little off to me.... now I'm kinda wondering if maybe I got a bad one 🤔 Glad to hear you enjoyed it! Can't go wrong with bright and hydrated. 😃

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@faeriegirl @Brighter and hydrated! Win!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

This one sounds great @faeriegirl! I have so many masks in my bin that I’ve marked with notes based on what everyone has said in their reviews. 💗 Will have to try to get to this one soon. 😃

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

My new favorite "mask" is the BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Marine Algae Eye Cream.

I've been using it for about a week typically at night with the Biossance Peptide serum layered on top.  However, I've also used it in my morning routine after applying my Omega cream or DE Lala / B-Hydra.  I like that a little dab goes a very long way and is hydrating.  My under eye area tends to get dry for a variety of reasons - hives/flushing, meds, weather, etc.  I love the hydration.  I also feel it helps brighten the application area (I usually apply to my brow bone, outer and under eye) and thus helps diminish the appearance of my allergy shiners.  Overall, I think it is a new HG eye cream for me.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@MCSSavvy  I'm really enjoying this one too! I definitely see some brightening on days \i use this.

this one looks great @MCSSavvy

this one looks great @MCSSavvy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Gonna put this one on my list of eye creams to check out @MCSSavvy; it sounds wonderful. Biossance has some great skincare items in its collection.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi  - Let me know what you think when you try it.  I think you'll like it.  Smiley Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@MCSSavvy  This sounds wonderful, I'm so happy to hear it may be a new HG for you! I don't think I've tried this product, but I have tried a couple other things by them that I really liked. Biossance seems to be a great brand! 😃

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85  Thanks!  I've only used Biossance for a year and have been really impressed so far.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

This was my sheet mask choice for the last night (Sunday) of "I" / Favorites Week, a newbie to me, which it turns out, fits both of last week's challenge themes.

Abridged Review: Loved and would happily repurchase both of these products. Inna Organic Rose Geranium Soothing Facial Mask, is a biodegradable BemlieseTM sheet mask that holds a thin, watery essence and reduces redness to some degree and leaves skin feeling soft and hydrated. The scent on this one isn't my favorite (subtle geranium scent at first followed by a hybrid Chinese herbs / Korean hanbang medicinal scent that dissipates), but the fit and feel on this one is amazing. The  BIOSSANCE - Squalane+ Rose Vegan Lip Balm goes on very smooth, has a balm like texture without feeling heavy, filmy or waxy, if that makes sense. I couldn't detect a scent on this one. It wears comfortably and makes my lips feel hydrated, like they're being nourished. Wear time is good; I had it on the other day for about 3-1/2 - 4 hours and could still feel it on my lips. I might have been able to keep it on longer without needing to reapply, but lunch took out what remained of the balm. Smiley Wink

Detailed Review

Inna Organic

Mask Name

Rose Geranium Skin Soothing Facial Mask

Type of Mask

Sheet Mask, sandwiched between white plastic backing and a blue fabric backing

Material (if sheet mask)

BemlieseTM (regenerated cellulose made from the short fiber on cotton seeds) – it’s environmentally friendly and biodegradable

Thin, watery

Extra serum in pouch?

Yes, but interestingly (and a little strange in my mind), the essence in the pouch seemed to have a light amber hue to it that I did not detect on the sheet mask itself

Stated Purpose

Soothing, calming

Initially after removing the mask, my skin felt tacky, a little more so than it ordinarily does after some sheet masks, but after a half hour or so, the tacky feeling disappeared and my skin felt soft and hydrated, some redness was reduced (nice!).

Notable Ingredient(s)

Extracts of geranium (2nd ingredient), glycerin (3rd), olive leaf (7th), chamomile flower extract, skullcaps, phragmites communis (which I learned are Chinese herbs), and poria mushroom. Also, chamomile flower water (5th),  aloe leaf powder,  lavender, geranium and orange oils. See spoiler for full ingredients list.

Fit (Areas to be Adjusted)

1” to 1-1/2” too long at chin and along the jawline

1/2” inch too wide at temples / sides

Eyes / Nose Bridge

To my great surprise (shock really), no adjustments were needed. That’s never really happened before, especially at the nose bridge / inner corners of the eyes.

Pretty good

Interestingly, this has a slit instead of a hole for the mouth. I’ve used a couple of sheet masks with this design but haven’t been too fond of them in the past. This one was different. I actually liked it and was able, with a little effort, to manipulate it to fit around my mouth nicely and without having to make any incisions.

Wonderful, like second skin

I picked a very, very subtle geranium scent (not quite rose) with a medicinal scent (that reminded me of a cross between Chinese herbs and the Korean hanbang scents). The scent dissipates fairly quickly, but it is noticeable before it does so. After doing some research, it sounds like the medicinal scent was from the skullcaps, Chinese herbs and possibly the poria mushrooms.

Wear Time

10-15 minutes suggested; I had it on for 30 minutes.

Didn’t love the scent, BUT loved everything else. Loved the feel and how the mask fit around my eyes especially.

Oh yes!! I would repurchase this one and am excited to try the other sheet masks from this brand.
