ARCHIVE - 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

So, life got in the way & I haven't been really masking 😒but I did last night & tonight. stock pic, already in bed, used this last night. maybe discontinued? but I like it alot. treated some spots that were being a pain. And tonight for "h" week. Hello ganic_ grain mask. First time using, Fit? ok, lil wide on the nose Smell? reminded me alot of baby powder in the package but smell faint with mask on Consistency? serum is almost water like Ease of use? serum soaks in almost immediately but does leave a residue, not tacky or sticky, leaves your face feeling almost matte -weird to explain Would I  purchase/try again? yes, as long as I don't have any negative results. I did buy different kinds of this. overall, a good experience so far.☺

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@sonnydee  The 1aday looks really cool. I don't think I'm familiar with a eucalyptus sheet either!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Your description makes me think the grain mask might be a nice one try for morning masking, @sonnydee

yes, it would be good before makeup by the way it made my face feel. @quspork I skipped my night moisturizer to see how it felt in the morning, not bad for a mask!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@sonnydee It seems everyone has been liking those sheet masks! This one sounds great - Let's hope you have no negative effects!

nice to hear @Shosh85 I think I remember @lmaster trying these out but admit I haven't been up to date on anyone else's opinion unfortunately😬😣

Re: nice to hear @Shosh85 I think I remember @lmaster trying...

@sonnydee @Shosh85 this particular one I have yet to try, there was one that had a really strong scent, I think without looking it was the hydrating version, but they have great results

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Was able to get some masking in the other day. Started with a fave of mine OleHenriksen Walnut scrub. My face felt nice and cleansed after using this. Then went in for the Hey,lo Tomato mask. I've used the cauliflower one from this line before and loved it. The lovely @eshoe sent me this one and I love it too. The fit wasn't great. It was too small but the eye holes were not bad. Had plenty of serum, rubbed the excess on my arms and neck.
It is supposed to replenish moisture and revive the skin. I loved the way my face looked and felt after. It looked a little brighter and felt moisturized. Didn't remember to put moisturizer on at night after so I guess it didn't really need it. Definitely want to try the rest from this line.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@GalPalVal17  Glad you had such great results from the tomato mask!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

The tomato mask sounds like a winner, @GalPalVal17!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@GalPalVal17 I have that sheet mask and the tomato on it made me unmotivated to try it 😂 It sounds like it turned out great! 😃🍅

I am definitely getting into more vegetable masks @GalPaV...

I am definitely getting into more vegetable masks @GalPaVal17 they do have some excellent results

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

LOVE that walnut scrub, it has the most delicious scent @GalPalVal17! The Hey, lo! has a broccoli one I want to try, too. At some point Smiley Wink

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe agreed! The walnut scrub was the first product I ever tried from Ole Henrikson

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Some grocery store and drugstore masking last night - @lmaster I see that we were masking twins, haven't read your review yet Smiley Wink

Chapstick, Whole Foods & GarnierChapstick, Whole Foods & Garnier

I've used the Garnier Fructis Color Vibrancy Treat 1 Minute Hair Mask with Goji Extract a couple of times now, most recently last night. I haven't colored my hair in years. It used to be an aubergine/purple and I loved it, but now I'm pretty low-key and it would just be too much work. So I cannot testify to the color vibrancy aspect, but for a one minute mask, am pretty pleased with it. The scent reminds me of berries, like Starburst candy or berry Skittles. After rinsing it out last night, I let my hair air dry without any added oils/spray leave-in conditioners. My daughter randomly told me my hair looked "SO shiny!" For the price, ease of use, ingredients, and scent (yum!) it's an A+!

The Chapstick Total Hydration in Sweet Peach is ok; it works but won't be a repurchase. I expected it to be a bit more nourishing/longer lasting, but I find myself reapplying it frequently and it tends to break off at the edges. A B+.

Finally - the Whole Foods Cotton Cupra Mask Brightening Apple. I have enjoyed using every other WF mask I've tried, so I had high expectations for this one.

I was pulling for a fresh, bright apple scent and was welcomed with more of an all-purpose cleaner one. It wasn't overbearing, but I didn't care for it. The mask itself fit perfectly and adhered well. The results were beautiful - nice, plumped skin, although I didn't see any visible brightening. I wouldn't use this mask again due to the scent, and the fact that there are so many other better Whole Foods masks. With a different essence it would definitely be an A+, but as it is, a B+.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe  Oh no, I definitely wouldn't enjoy one that smells like cleaner. Do you have a favorite whole foods mask?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@PrettyPaint it’s a tie between the Coconut Biocellulose & the Açaí Air-wrapping (two-part) masks.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe  Thanks so much! Coconut sounds amazing!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It's a shame about the scent on the WF mask, @eshoe. At least there are other great ones in the line to fall back on!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It’s the only one I’ve been pretty underwhelmed by so far, @quspork. One out of six isn’t bad at all!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe Looking at the title of the mask I would've hoped it brightened and smelled like apples - too bad it did neither of those. Sounds like it turned out nice despite that! 😉
