ARCHIVE - 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

All good! I'll try everything at least once! 😁 @missjeanie

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oof, unpacking is such a chore! Good luck getting settled and finding all your masking goodies. I feel the same way about bubble masks as you - more irksome than fun for sure.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Awh, thank you! 😁Yea, I think bubble masks just aren't for some people. @Alphaboo

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Since it’s Saturday, I decided to do a SATURDAY SKIN - Spotlight Brightening Mask.

I'm sooo torn on this mask. Here’s what I like: the silky, thick, almost rubbery texture of the sheet mask itself, which really holds in moisture well; the results (plumping, brightening, hydrating); skin-soothing for my sensitive skin.

Here’s what I don’t like: the fit (not enough upper lip or chin coverage, and tends to sag lower and lower and needs to be constantly readjusted); too much serum, to the point where it seems wasteful and explains the high price of this mask (CAD$7.50 for a single).

So, great results, but saggy fit and high price. Sadly, I don’t think I’ll be repurchasing this one. I’d rather spend CAD$3.00 on a mask that also has great results, but a proper fit. What can I say — I guess I’ve become cheap 😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@PinkEvergreen $3 for a mask feels like a big spender to me. Marshall's has convinced me more than $1 for a sheet mask is expensive. 😂 The things you like sound good but yep, with that fit and price I'll pass. Thanks for sharing!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@ShortErica  Glad I’m not the only one that has become frugally-inclined when it comes to masks lol 😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Agree with you @PinkEvergreen! This mask had some good results for me, but there were things off about it, and there are plenty other masks to get to. Ha!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi  It’s unfortunate, because I really do like Saturday Skin’s serum in this mask. Buuut, not being in love with the mask itself does save me money 😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@PinkEvergreen I bought this and was going through a period of tossing anything with alcohol, so didn't even use it. Sounds like I didn't miss out on much. Have you tried the Probiotic one? That seems to get a lot of good reviews here. And it comes with stickers, the best Smiley Wink

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe  I have indeed tried that one, and it’s one of my favourites. The included stickers are on the back of my phone 😁 They’re grippy and keep it from falling into the bath when it’s on the ledge lol...

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

😂 @PinkEvergreen that’s a brilliant use for them, ha!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I like how you posted the "what I like" & "what I don't like".  Very easy to understand,

why it would be prudent to choose not to repurchase. @PinkEvergreen , every time

I see your nickname it conjures pictures of fluffy pink trees among the Evergreens, I like it.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@byme4u  I’m glad it was useful to you 😊

I’m a nature-lover at heart... everything from bright pink cherry blossoms, to the peaceful and refreshing evergreens, and everything in between. I’m glad my nickname conjures nice images for you! ☺️

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It’s definitely not being cheap @PinkEvergreen if the lower priced masks work and fit better😊

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thanks for the detailed review @PinkEvergreen. Yeah, I really don't understand why some masks have such minimal upper lip coverage.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@PrettyPaint  It’s odd to me because it’s one of the areas that I think everyone wants to keep smooth and plump (especially to prevent lipstick/gloss from feathering as we age) 🤔

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I know it! @PinkEvergreen. Plus I feel like I lot of people in my family get wrinkles in that area as they age, so it's kind of a bummer that more masks don't provide coverage in that area.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

You’re not being cheap @PinkEvergreen ! You’re allowing your budget to purchase two masks! That’s just smart economics! I’ve wondered the same thing about price points. I’ve so many great masks for under 2$ Canadian each, I treat the more expensive ones as treats during sales.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@missjeanie  I used to think nothing of paying $7-8 per mask once upon a time. I’ve become a lot more frugal in the last year when it comes to things that don’t need to be expensive. I’ll splash out for a Natasha Denona palette but not for masks I don’t absolutely love 😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I hear you @PinkEvergreen , I think I’ve just discovered where to spend my money to get more bang for my buck. I have a few skincare items, and one or two cosmetics... but I’ve found some great masks via TJs/winners.... they’ve spoiled me.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thanks for the great review!!! 😁This is one of those masks that I run in to all the time and wonder if it is worth the higher price point or not. I feel like I have SOOOO many issues with masks fitting already because I am itty bitty so I have a tiny face. They always go like waaaaaay over in to my hair and it is a hot mess!!! Sounds like one I should skip! 👍 @PinkEvergreen
