Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Spoiler

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Spoiler
Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi From this Nature Republic line I've only tried this and the honey one. Besides the slippery-ness of the hydrogel, I loved the honey one! I think that's the main reason I'm not too excited about repurchasing the pomegranate one - the Honey was better. I think results-wise these both were pretty similar, but the scent on the honey one is what made it stand out to me. 🍯

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

The star of Saturday night’s masking sesh was the acai berry.

IMG_7812.JPG

Spoiler
Quick summary: All were good products. Looking through the ingredient lists for each item though, I noticed the Holika Holika sheet mask was the only one that seems to contain acai berry, which makes me pleased with the sheet mask, but disappointed with the hair mask and lip balm.

The Holika Holika Pure Essence Mask Sheet (Acai Berry) was gifted to me by the superbly knowledgeable @keana1 (thank you, thank you!). I’m a fan of Holika Holika sheet masks and was excited to use this one. It’s a thin cotton sheet mask (love the second skin feeling) that adheres well to the skin. I don’t know what acai berries smell like; really, I only know them in the form of acai bowls (ha!) and I can’t seem to recall what they smell like if they have a scent (and yes, I’ve made a note to pick up an acai bowl for breakfast or an afternoon snack sometime this weekend). This particular mask has a subtle scent but it’s not berries, or fruit at all – it’s a subtle clean scent, not clean like a cleaning product but clean in the fresh sense.  As with pretty much all sheet masks, I made adjustments to the corners of the eyes and mouth, and chin and jawline area. The serum on this one has a gel-like consistency and is a bit sticky, which probably accounts for the mask adhering so well. I left this mask on for my usual half hour (directions recommend 10-20 minutes) and after removing the mask and patting in the excess serum (of which there was a lot), my skin just the teensiest bit tacky to the touch, but it also felt bouncy and moisturized and had a fresh glow about it. This morning my skin looked clear, felt soft and hydrated.

Sephora Collection Acai Hair Sleeping Mask and the SuperGoop Acai Fusion Lip Balm rounded out my evening masking.  SC puts out some really nice products, from its pressed powders, #lipstories, lip balms to its sheet masks and brushes, I’m a fan. Before last night, I tried all of the overnight hair masks except for this one. The acai hair sleeping mask is geared towards brightening and color protection. I’ve colored my hair before but not in the last 9-12 months, so I won’t be able to speak to its color protection claims. This one smells … yummy – it has a fruity scent to it and maybe a little floral too. The acai and coconut hair masks are my favorite scents in this hair sleeping mask line. I worked the product through my hair, put it in a braid, slipped the cap over my head and went to bed. After rinsing the mask out of my hair this morning, my hair looks and feels softer and smooth and it looks shiny and healthy. I find these sleeping hair masks great for travel and I’ll definitely repurchase.

The SuperGoop Acai Fusion Lip Balm is a nice, smooth, non-sticky balm that contains SPF. This one smells nice, but the scent seems more coconut-y to me than anything. Because of that I decided to look at the ingredients list and … ugh! It does not appear to contain acai berries. There’s added “flavor” but nothing that suggests acai berries are included in the balm. Having learned that this morning, I then went to check the ingredients list on both the hair sleeping mask and the sheet mask and what do you think I found? The only mask I used last night that specifically includes acai berry in the ingredients list is the Holika Holika sheet mask – euterpe oleracea fruit extract. I’m pleased the sheet mask contains acai berry in it, but I’m a bit disappointed in this discovery as far as the sleeping hair mask and lip balm go.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I’m glad that you enjoyed the Holika Holika Mask @itsfi ! I’ve never seen açaí berries before.... It must be disappointing to use products that claim to contain açaí and don’t! Sephora Canada doesn’t carry Supergoop products, what a bummer! Their mineral sunscreen(s) sound so great! There are so many different brands that we don’t have at Sephora Canada, I wish we would have the same availability! At least we have DE ( except for the Babyfacial ) etc..

glad we both are really enjoying holika holika masks 😍 @...

glad we both are really enjoying holika holika masks 😍 @itsfi sorry to hear the hair and lip masks didn't contain acai

RE: glad we both are really enjoying holika holika masks 😍 @...

Yaaay for Holika Holika sheet masks @lmaster! 💖 Are there any flavors you are especially fond of? Yeah, the lack of açaí in those two products is a bit of a bummer since açaí is clearly in the product names. The hair mask though is quite nice and I’ll repurchase despite that.

Re: RE: glad we both are really enjoying holika holika masks 😍 @...

@itsfi in totally in love with the aloe version and the egg peeling gel is great too

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I've seen this HH mask out and about and convinced myself that I didn't need to be buying sheet masks again... but now maybe I'll have to try this one out if I spot it again! I'm glad you reviewed the Supergoop lip balm @itsfi , I had this one on my list, but had hoped it smelled of berries.

Have to ask... how long is your hair?  I'm curious about the SC hair masks, but my hair goes down to my lower back, I wonder if there'd be enough mask.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@missjeanie, it would have been great if it smelled of berries (and had acai berries in it), but the coconut scent to it is very nice, if you like coconut scents. So funny you asked about my hair length; I've been sitting here for the last 20 minutes having an internal debate whether to get it cut. lol! My hair is a little more than 2 inches below the middle of my back.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oh good to know you have longer hair too @itsfi ! I might need to add on a hair mask to an order!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Nice theme @itsfi! Too bad the balm and hair mask didn’t have açaí in it🤷‍♀️ The sheet mask and hair mask sound great though😊

RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@faeriegirl, the sheet mask and hair mask were great! The scent on the hair mask, while not like berries, was sooo good! 😊

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi Love the Açaí theme! I've only ever had them in bowls too, so I've never got a good sniff of them either! I have the Holika Holika one waiting to be used, so it's nice to hear it turned out so well! 😃

Thats great you got a good scent on the hair mask and even better that you saw some nice results! 🙌

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85, the Holika Holika face sheet masks I've tried so far have been either good or great, so that's a plus. 🙂 Sephora Collection hair masks are great for traveling; the scent on this acai one was really nice - noticeable, pleasant but not overwhelming.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I have been banished from my room cause the kids are having an impromptu pillow fort/nest slumber party in there  tonight so I grabbed what I could without disturbing the nest.  It’s on theme!  Woohoo!   The peach scent is wonderfully artificial.  I haven’t got much to say with these masks that I haven’t said before.  They fit decent enough, there’s just enough serum...  I suspect they’re all the same mask but with different scents.  They’re just filler masks for me.  I will likely continue buying them cause they’re super affordable.  image.jpg

sounds like a fun night with a decent mask @heartsmyface...

sounds like a fun night with a decent mask @heartsmyface too cute!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

heck yes to a beautiful artificial peachy scent @heartsmyface !

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It looks nice @heartsmyface!❤️🍑

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@heartsmyface I agree that these make good filler masks - and for the price it's definitely worth it. I've seen a couple "flavors" that looked delicious! This peach one sounds great!😃🍑

How nice of you to allow the kids to take over your room! My room is the official hang room too 😉

RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Complete agree @heartsmyface, Pure Smile masks are great filler masks - so much flavors to choose from too. Bet the kiddoes had fun with their pillow fight!

Sounds like a decent mask. Thanks for sharing @heartsmyface

2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thursday I went with avocado 🥑 nourishing mask. the scent was light, not much excess serum at all, I tried to spread some on my face, but could barely cover it. I applied the thicker natural pulp sheet mask tomy face, and this is not a mask you can wear unless you are laying down. it bubbled up everywhere, in thinking the lack of serum had a part in this, because it just didn't feel saturated at all. it could be thethickness or the lack of serum or both, but it was working against me 🙄 I managed to keep it on for 20 minutes. yeah my face did feel a bit softer, but not motorized or hydrated. I would pass on this particular one in the future. it's a D-
