ARCHIVE - 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

More unicorns for U week

I didn’t use a mask last night - what?! Quelle horreur! lol! I wanted to see how my skin responded overnight to the Rata & Co. Broccoli and Avocado Oil sheet mask. No breakouts this morning. Interesting. I mean, I’m very pleased that my skin didn’t break out but I’m still trying to wrap my head around the different approaches with sheet masks – do you rinse off the serum from a sheet mask or pat/press it in to help with absorption? I’m pretty certain I’ll continue to pat, pat, pat that serum into my skin unless, of course, the directions say otherwise (lesson learned, Fi!), but now, for sheet masks that may have previously caused me to suffer a couple of breakouts, I *may* give them another go but wash off the serum after I remove the sheet mask, and see how that works for my skin. I say *may* because if I experienced other negative effects or there were more than a few small breakouts, I’m probably not inclined to give it another shot.

Back to this morning’s mask though. The Creme Shop Glow Up, Skin! Sheet Mask is the second unicorn mask from the brand I have tried. Earlier in the week, I used the Clear Up, Skin! Mask and loved it. This one is similar in size, fit, adherence and design as the Clear Up version but the purpose of this mask is to give your skin a glow. And what dehydrated, combo-skin girl like myself doesn’t want a nice glow to her complexion a nice glow on a Thursday morning?! Smiley Wink  One other important difference with this mask and the previous one is that this one does not have that delicious strawberry ice cream scent. Smiley Sad It does, however, have a light clean scent that is refreshing and likely better suited to those sensitive to fragrance. Smiley Happy As far as results go, it does what it claims and after having the mask on for half an hour (recommended time is 15-20 minutes) and patting in the excess serum, my skin had a lovely glow to it – not a whoa, cue down the blinding light sort of glow but a lovely lit from within fresh radiance to it, perfect for under makeup and the start of a long-ish day ahead.

@sonnydee @lmaster @Shosh85, have you tried this Glow Up, Skin! mask from The Creme Shop?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oh now I need to go see if I have this one in my creme shop collection!  Sounds like the Ratta & co worked out much much better this time @itsfi   I wonder how many beauty products Ive neglected to read directions on?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@missjeanie, hahaha! I'm guilty of just glancing at the directions to find out the recommended wear time and even with that, I think I do it more out of habit because 9 out of 10 times, no matter what the recommended time is, I usually leave it on for an half hour. What can I say, I'm a creature of habit. lol.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi It's been awhile since I used this one, and the only thing I remember is that I didn't like it as much as the Clear Up! Skin one. I tried it back when I wasn't saving my notes, so I don't remember all the specifics, but I tried it right after the Clear Up! Skin mask so that comparison just stuck in my brain 🧠 😃

Its great to hear you didn't have any breakouts from the last mask! Definitely a good reminder to take a peek at the instructions! 😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85,  the Clear Up, Skin! is by far, for me, the better of the two unicorn masks. The Glow Up, Skin! isn't bad at all, but the Clear Up, Skin! mask is just so great. Smiley Happy

Ohh yes, definitely learned my lesson. I need to look at the directions for more than just how long it's recommended that I have the sheet mask on. hahaha!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi I have to admit I had even stopped reading the recommended wear time too! 🤷‍♀️

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi , excellent idea!  Hope it works for you on the masks you really enjoy using.

Keep us informed of your progress.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thanks @byme4u! Just trying to turn a lesson learned moment into something positive. I never would have thought that the serum from a sheet mask might be washed off.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi great review - I think I have tried this one as well and was happy with the results!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Kim888, The Creme Shop unicorn masks have been winners for me. Glad to hear this one worked for you as well.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I'm pretty sure I actually have this mask @itsfi but I don't recall ever using it before 🤔

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It's a pretty good one for adding a little glow @lmaster.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

That's great @itsfi love a nice glow 😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi  well it is nice to see that you didnt end up breaking out with the Rata & Co mask after doing the wash off approach. This mask also seems like a good one for an ever so slight gleam Smiley Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@GalPalVal17, I'm very happy and relieved I didn't break out again with the Rata mask. I'll have to be more mindful of reading instructions. lol!
