ARCHIVE - 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@GalPalVal17, does the Tony Moly lavender mask smell like lavender? Love the GlamGlow as a spot treatment!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi  I want to say it did but i dont 100% remember if it was Lavendar or just a perfume scent. It was lovely tho and not too strong. Tolerable and didnt last the whole time but enough to notice it which is perfect for me.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thank you, @GalPalVal17! It's good to know that the scent was not too strong. I'm fine with most scents so long as it's not overwhelming.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

lol a little afraid to try that mask now that I know it's "gross" but glad it worked out for you @GalPalVal17  !

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

My last variety of the Clear Turn White masks - Hyaluronic Acid for “H”! I also (not pictured because it’s technically a repeat), used the Ahava Hydration mask last night, but as an overnight mask this time!89AC37DC-84C5-4A91-8A6D-898A80DFE1B8.jpeg

First off - the sheet mask. Like the rest from this line, they’re thick, saturated with serum, and has a terrible fit for me. The scent was a fresh light clean scent which I really liked. This one felt very dry - I couldn’t keep it on more than 20 mins, although the directions indicate to leave it on for 10. If I took it off at the ten minute mark, my impression wouldn’t have been that it was so dry. It adhered well despite the dryness. My skin was only very slightly tacky after removal, and felt hydrated. I can tell it was effective because I used a cream from the dermatologist after, and if my skin isn’t hydrated, it starts to feel incredibly dry within an hour of application, which didn’t happen! Probably would reuse, but wouldn’t seek it out because there are so many other hyaluronic acid/hydration masks on the market that would do a better job and fit better. B for this one.

for the Ahava as a sleeping mask .... GAME CHANGER. I probably will only use it as a sleeping mask going forward, which is good because the 100ml I have would take forever for me to finish if I only used it as a wash-off mask. My skin was hydrated and plump this morning. Almost too much - next time I won’t use a sheet mask for hydration in the same lineup because it was a little overkill. But my skin didn’t feel tight, and it didn’t peel (if I’m too heavy handed with the derm cream I get that sometimes). My only recommendation is to let it dry down, and don’t use a pillowcase you’re that attached to because I did find some of it on my pillow this morning

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Yay for another use for the Ahava cream @cianni - also bonus points on remembering to try it that way Smiley Very Happy  The road to great masking is paved with good intentions and a backlog of masks, so it's very cool that you 'repurposed' this one to suit your skin's needs. I love their foot cream, they make some nice products!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe admittedly I had to put it on my counter with my regular skincare so it was basically staring me down until I used it 😂😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@cianni sometimes it’s what we gotta do! 😂

so glad you found a use for your ahava cream @cianni 😍

so glad you found a use for your ahava cream @cianni 😍

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

The Ahava mask as a sleeping mask sounds great @cianni! Agree with you on HA masks; there’s so many out there so we can be more selective about which ones work best overall for our face and skin and which ones to repurchase! 😃 Do you have a favorite hyaluronic acid sheet mask?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi hmmm I’m not sure! I did really love the tatcha dewy luminous (don’t know if that’s 100% the right name.. it’s a deeper purple package), which I believe contains HA, among other great ingredients, but at $15 CAD for one...... I can never bring myself to buy them haha

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I’m not sure i’ve tried the clear turn sheet masks but I have enjoyed their undrreye patches for a few years now. Yeah,  a B sounds about right.  I like that you get 30 of them for under $6 though.  @cianni

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@heartsmyface can’t beat a price like that!! I never have too much luck with under eye patches, I find they slip around for me, but for $6 I’ll look into the clear turn! Even if I have to use them under sheet masks to make them stay in place

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

They normally come in a pack on a card but for the sake of packing as much stuff in my luggage as is humanly possible on the way home from Japan, I remove any extra paper and packaging from my  purchasesSmiley Very Happy  @eshoe

You could throw a pair on and put a sleeping mask overtop to hold them in place while you relax.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I’m so curious @heartsmyface are they hydrogel? Really thin?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

No they’re cotton as far as I can tell.  Very thin and supersaturated  cotton @eshoe

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oooh nice fit @heartsmyface! I like the shape of it!

2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

So if you have ever changed a newborns diaper who's breast fed then you know why this is on gross week. Almost exact color🤢. *anyways* this mask had conflicting times so I left it on for about 12 min but it could be anywhere between 5-10-20 depending where you read🙄 it smells of spice the entire time -im guessing it's the tumeric-it's on bad but I wouldn't want my deodorant to smell like it. I removed this with a washcloth to save time. i It removed ok, but I had to rub it over again once my face was bare, just left a feeling of a residue. My face was soft & velvety when I applied my moisturizer but I didnt see a difference in my pores on my nose or on the blemishes I currently have (thanks SR!😟) Some people complained this burning, I didnt feel that at all. On one pimple that's still "fresh" I did feel a lil tingle but it could be just due to open skin.? This was easily spreadable but it was surprisingly thin. I had to use ALOT to cover my face. I'll probably get 2 more full face uses out of this but that's about it. Unless this wows me with continued use, (I'll probably spot treat) this isn't something I would search for. It was overall a meh experience so C grade. Will update if anything miraculous happens.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@sonnydee Honestly, if I hadn't read your comment I would've thought it looks great, like creamy and soothing....... but of course now I just can't unsee it 😂 I do like the sound of your face feeling soft and velvety though 😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

😁 @Shosh85 that it did but I didnt see the deep pore cleansing it promised, I plan on using it up as a spot treatment for acne to see if it can do anything there. Your dry skin may like the residue- I got it from ipsy so be on the lookout for it😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@sonnydee Man do I love your description. Gross week has sure made it fun for descriptions and reviews. too bad it wasn't as good as you hoped but getting a laugh from it makes it all fun.
