ARCHIVE - 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Spoiler

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Spoiler
Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@keana1  It does!!!!  😂🤣 Yeah I am convinced the girl on the package is NOT wearing the same mask that was in the bag!  How’d she get it on so evenly, symmetrical and with no drips?  And why isn’t she horrified?  😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It looked too perfect to me @heartsmyface ! I only used one bubbling mask before and it was awful! I had to remove it after having it on for only 5 minutes, it gave me a burning sensation for the whole day!  No more bubbles for me! I applaud your courage for using a bubbling mask! 👏

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I really enjoy bubbling masks though normally they’re in sheet mask form and they’re not brown. @keana1 @I don’t do them unless I need a deep clean which is rarely cause they do tend to dry my already dry skin out:)

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I also have dry skin, maybe the bubbling sheet mask that I tried just made my skin even dryer @heartsmyface !

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Girl, you are brave!! 😳 I looked at the pic of the mixture and thought “is it bubbling?” I agree with @Shosh85!  You look adorable - only you @heartsmyface can make bubbling 💩 look cute!  Brava! 👏🏼

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hahahahaha!!!  I really didn’t feel brave.  There are far less flattering pics of me making faces when it was first being applied;).  It was drippy and horrifying.  @itsfi

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Ewww, drippy sounds horrifying @heartsmyface!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@heartsmyface This one sounds so great! I kinda like that it looks like 💩 – it adds to the fun. Haha! You are the cutest person ever with 💩 on your face 😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Haha, why thank you!  Best compliment of the day!  It bubbles so much bits came off on my pants too 🤣.  It was easy to wipe off but just added to the experience!  I am so utterly shocked I like it and would recommend!  @Shosh85

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Okay I clearly chose gross.  I’ve been putting this Japanese mask by Synapse Media Lab off for a while now cause it just looks rude.  I was shocked when I mixed the ingredients and a tablespoon of water cause it bubbled up like a witches potion.  Fun and startling!  It is a particularly diaper filling shade of brown which had me laughing as I applied it.  No scent.  The bubbles are aggressive and some of them had bite.  I left it on for 5minites.  I dried down to a bubbly mud.  Upon rinsing I noticed immediately that the sebaceous glands on my nose were completely cleaned out.  My face feels a bit dry and tight around the nose though.  This is a good cleansing mask and would be excellent for anyone with blackheads or oily skin.  Gotta go put some moisture back onto my skin but I would give this one an A cause it did clear up those oxidized glands and any discomfort is made good by its effectiveness.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@heartsmyface  oooh sounds amazing ! love anything that cleans pores out

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

For Monday night's masking, I went with a sheet mask that fits both of this week’s themes – "H" is for hydration and for the gross ingredient, placenta. I had some reservations about putting a mask with placenta on my face (but I was perfectly fine with the snail mucin – LOL!) I pulled this mask out of the bin and set it aside when I learned that @Aaliaa’s suggestion for a gross mask theme would be part of this year’s challenge.

Sheet Mask

Spoiler
The material on the Elensilia IntraCell Escarbot + Placenta Firming Mask Sheet is nice and thin, and has a clean and slightly sweet, citrusy-floral scent. No one fragrance came to mind initially, but later on, I thought the scent was maybe a subtly sweetened pamplemousse. Other than being too long at the chin and jawline, the mask fit may facial features pretty well; I did make a very minor adjustment to the top part of the inner and outer corners of the eye to lift the mask from my eyelids. It felt like I had nothing on, like second skin, as they say. I left the mask on for half hour, which is typically the time I’ve been wearing my sheet masks; it’s about 10 minutes longer than the recommended time on most sheet masks, including this one. The mask was slightly damp when I removed it and I had some essence remaining on my face. My skin was slightly tacky to the touch once the essence has been absorbed but my skin feels more firm than before, which surprised me because I don’t often find firming masks to be firming on the first use. Looking in the mirror, my complexion looked clear and slightly matte and feels hydrated, though my face does also feel warm. I’m surprising myself here, but this is an “A/A+” mask for me. Wait, what?! I was not  expecting that.

Hand Mask

Spoiler
While I had the sheet mask on, I reached for the Salon de bi Joie Placenta Hand Mask because if I’m going to do a placenta sheet mask, I might as well use a hand mask with placenta in it as well, right?! Right. There’s a placenta foot mask but I don’t think I have it in my stash; otherwise, I would have worn it tonight. The essence on this one is thicker in consistency than the liquidy essence in the sheet mask. There’s a slightly fruity-ish scent to the hand mask that is neither pleasing nor offensive to my sense of smell, but that you can smell on your hands after you remove the mask. Since the hand mask has added fragrance, I’m not sure whether the scent is from the added fragrance or one of the ingredients. The hand mask is supposed to be left on for 10-15 minutes; I kept it on for about 12 minutes. When I removed the mask, my hands were coated in the serum but not dripping in it. My skin feels a smidge tacky as I massage the serum into my hands and forearms. Once it absorbs, the tacky feeling fades away and I’m left with soft, smooth and moisturized hands and gets an “A” from me.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Ohhhh, I was just reading about placenta in skincare yesterday!  I thought I'd found a placenta hair mask... it was soy placenta.  Do you know if your masks were pig or cow placenta? @itsfi

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@missjeanie, the sheet mask doesn’t say whether it’s pig 🐖 or cow 🐄 or sheep 🐑 but I think that one is animal placenta. The placenta in the hand mask is from soybeans. So many different kinds. I have a TonyMoly placenta mask and I plan to use later this week - that one is “phytoplacenta” (or soybean placenta).

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfiI'm finding the placenta ingredients are fascinating.  Every week I'm learning something new here!

@itsfi yaaaaaaaay I have the escargot mask as well, so gl...

@itsfi yaaaaaaaay I have the escargot mask as well, so glad to know it's a keeper 😉

Re: @itsfi yaaaaaaaay I have the escargot mask as well, so gl...

Oooh, let me know what you think about it @lmaster (but I will completely understand if it takes you a while to try it out). Interestingly, this morning, one of my coworkers told me my skin looks really hydrated today. 🙂 Hmmm....

Re: @itsfi yaaaaaaaay I have the escargot mask as well, so gl...

That's fantastic! @itsfi  just makes you feel good knowing all this hard work masking pays off 😉😘

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi These both sound so great! I've read good things about the benefits placenta does for the skin! I think I need to search my stash for some placenta! 😂😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85, I’ll be interested to see what “interesting” ingredients you find your mask  stash. I didn’t think I’d have many but just this past weekend, I pulled 3 masks with 3 different ingredients that could be deemed “gross”. 😂😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi does the Sara Happ Scrub smell like coconut? If so I will not be purchasing. I do not like the smell or taste of coconut so much that my husband has threatened to purchase a bag of coconut to sprinkle on my favorite foods.

I purchased a trio of Sara Happ products from Ulta and every one of those products smell like coconut.
