2025 Skincare Check-In Challenge: LAST Week! - Don't forget hand + foot care

January Challenge visual_010825.jpg

Happy New Year, BIC! We’re stepping into 2025 with a crucial reminder: we must take special care of ourselves — this year and EVERY year. Some of us may already have set resolutions and/or stellar routines nailed down; regardless of where you are on your self-care journey, we could all use a few extra nudges and motivation to spend some extra time on ourselves! 🤝

Much like posts from previous years, we’ve come up with a list of weekly prompts to challenge you to strut your self-care skills. 💗 This time around we’ll be focused on all things skincare, because when our skin feels good, we feel GEWD. 🌟 We encourage you to participate and respond to the prompts that inspire you – and don’t be shy to share any other self-care tips and tricks along the way!

Week 1 (1/8 – 1/14): Curating the perfect rise and glow ☀ skincare routine to kick off your day

Week 2 (1/15 – 1/21): Relaxing in your favorite face/eye mask(s)

Week 3 (1/22 – 1/28): Trying out tools to promote wellness (rollers, high tech tools, DIY massage . . .)

Week 4 (1/29 – 2/4): Adding some extra indulgence to your body care (baths, butters, oils, scrubs etc.) 🛀

Week 5 (2/5 – 2/11): Washing your makeup brushes, towels, pillowcases, etc. — whatever touches your GORG face 😘

Week 6 (2/12 – 2/18): Stimulating your scalp with treatments/serums (yes, this is skincare too!)

Week 7 (2/19 – 2/25): Sharing your favorite jumbo or refillable skincare goodies to get the best bang for your buck 🤑

Week 8 (2/26 – 3/4): Giving your hands and feet some extra love (masks, creams, exfoliants, etc.)

Hit the “Reply” button below and let us know how you are practicing self-skincare! 😍 Be sure to use the “#” to tag any products mentioned in your answers, if applicable.

That is a great cleanser @alexasteph

Re: 2025 Skincare Check-In Challenge: Week 7 - Jumbo & Refillable Skincare

Week 7 (2/19 – 2/25): Sharing your favorite jumbo or refillable skincare goodies to get the best bang for your buck 🤑

I do love my Tatcha The Dewy Skin Cream Plumping & Hydrating Refillable Moisturizer 1.7 oz / 50 mL Refill Pod .  I always tried to recycle the container before the refillable pods came out.

I do not buy jumbo sizes as I like to tru new things every so often.   When I did buy a jumbo shampoo i got bored with it before I finished it.

Re: 2025 Skincare Check-In Challenge: Week 7 - Jumbo & Refillable Skincare

Fair point @CorgiMommy  That's the hard thing about having backups or going for the big sizes. It does matter it challenging to try all the fun new things that come up. I think there are something I would go big for thou. Sunscreen, body moisturizers etc..i just go through mine so fast. 😅

Re: 2025 Skincare Check-In Challenge: Week 7 - Jumbo & Refillable Skincare

I don't own a lot in jumbo size, but I do have a few. Usually, I only buy shampoo & conditioner in jumbo, but this past year I did purchase Supergoop! PLAY Everyday Lotion SPF 50 Face & Body Sunscreen and this awesome Clinique set was at an excellent price during the holidays, and I could not pass it up. Aside from the cool, silver bag it all came in, it had a monster size of CLINIQUE Take The Day Off™ Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm

Re: 2025 Skincare Check-In Challenge: Week 7 - Jumbo & Refillable Skincare

I'm amazed at the size of that Supergoop @AMK721 like Woah! They don't sell that size here so I'm just seeing this for the first time. 😮

Sunscreen is strong I would consider buying in Jumbo.👌

Re: 2025 Skincare Check-In Challenge: Week 7 - Jumbo & Refillable Skincare

@CynthieLu Yep, it sure is a lot of sunscreen, but because I got it in this big jug, I am able to use it on my body as well as my face and neck. Granted the picture makes it look like a gallon jug LOL.

Re: 2025 Skincare Check-In Challenge: Week 7 - Jumbo & Refillable Skincare

Ahhhh yes I see it now @AMK721 the picture in the other comments gives it much more perspective. 😉 I love that you have a sun screen you enjoy for your entire body. 🙌 It makes it so much easier to use it everyday.

Re: 2025 Skincare Check-In Challenge: Week 7 - Jumbo & Refillable Skincare

@AMK721 now that is a lot of sunscreen!

Re: 2025 Skincare Check-In Challenge: Week 7 - Jumbo & Refillable Skincare

@CorgiMommy that other picture makes it look gigantic LOL. Here's me holding it for reference, still a large jug though 😆

Re: 2025 Skincare Check-In Challenge: Week 7 - Jumbo & Refillable Skincare

The only jumbos I own are liter bottles of shampoo.

Re: 2025 Skincare Check-In Challenge: Week 6 - Stimulating Scalps

Week 6 (2/12 – 2/18): Stimulating your scalp with treatments/serums (yes, this is skincare too!)

Week 6 - Scalp Care.jpg

Here are the scalp-care specific products and tools that are currently in my overall hair care rotation.

  1. I alternate between the Vegamour GRO Scalp Detox Clarifying Treatment for Dry, Flaky, Oily Scalp 2 oz/ 60 mL and the OUAI Mini Detox Shampoo 3 oz/ 89 mL for my weekly clarifying product, getting in some manual exfoliation and massage with the BREAD BEAUTY SUPPLY Scalp-Thingy: Scalp Massager. Both the Oaui and Bread products are tried-and-true items for me. The Vegamour serum is a recent addition to my scalp care routine (and currently one of the products in my Pan It! - 2025 Challenge, recommended to me by a Sephora beauty advisor at one of my local stores when I mentioned that while I love the idea of a pre-wash hair oil, the ones I had tried just were not well suited for my hair (but I do every now and again, use a DIY hot oil treatment - see below).
  2. OUAI Hydrating Scalp Serum for Healthy, Fuller Looking Hair 2 oz / 60 mL is a beauty and one I foresee always having on hand in my stash. I first received it as part of a gratis package from @TeamBIC years ago (thank you, thank you!) and it wasn't until I included it in a previous pan it! challenge that I saw how well this performed on my thin (and thinning) hair. I've been reaching for and repurchasing the Ouai that I've been putting off trying Act+Acre 2% Stem Cell H-2 Grow Complex ™ Scalp Serum For Thinning Hair  but I'm holding off on opening my backup of the Ouai to give the Act + Acre a try.
  3. COOLA Scalp & Hair Sunscreen & Color Protection Mist with SPF 30  - great for keeping my scalp protected from UV rays.
  4. Briogeo Scalp Revival Charcoal + Tea Tree Scalp Treatment Serum 1 oz/ 30 mL# (not pictured) - this has come in handy as a spot treatment. I used to have a desk situated directly under a HVAC vent and that resulted in some dry patches and flakes along one of my temples and one side of my forehead. Applying this helped to treat those areas and protect against future dryness and flakes.
  5. Sephora Collection x Wetbrush Treatment Hair Brush (I think this has been discontinued) - it looks scary, but it does a nice job of massaging my whole head while brushing my hair - can be used wet or dry. You could probably also use something like the scalp massager.

DIY hair & scalp treatments:
  • Occasionally, if I've made a dish or meal involving rice, I will save and use the rice water as a hair rinse between shampooing and conditioning my hair.
  • Likewise, every so often, I will make my own hot oil treatment (a throwback to the VO5 hot oil treatment when I was younger) that I apply to my hair and scalp, cover with a plastic shower cap, and let sit for about 30 minutes before rinsing it out with shampoo and conditioner.

Re: 2025 Skincare Check-In Challenge: Week 6 - Stimulating Scalps

@itsfi wow, lots of great ideas and products.  You are always such a wealth of information,  thank you

Re: 2025 Skincare Check-In Challenge: Week 6 - Stimulating Scalps

Ive been neglecting my scalp lately as last year, I was religiously taking care of my hair last year (or.. at least up to September 😅, remember @ather our hair recovery goal?!)

Yesterday was my day off so I decided to pamper it!

I start with the SEPHORA COLLECTION Purifying Scalp Serum AHA + Zinc 1.7 oz / 50 ml before I go in with castor oil and the Mielle oil.

The hair massager just works everything into the scalp!

Deep conditioning mid to ends with OUAI Treatment Mask for Fine and Medium Hair 8 oz/ 236 mL

I put on a hair wrap to keep the heat in/marinate for 4 hours.

Has anyone used castor oil before on hair before? I purchased it for my lashes as my lash tech recommended for conditioning them in between lifts and its really coming in clutch so decided to try it on hair too!

Re: 2025 Skincare Check-In Challenge: Week 6 - Stimulating Scalps

@jaaayp  Yes!!! Hair goals! I have heard of castor oil used on scalp and everywhere in between!!! I can’t wait to hear how it works for you!!!

The Ouai mask is my fav!

Re: 2025 Skincare Check-In Challenge: Week 6 - Stimulating Scalps

@jaaayp, ahhh, I have a bottle of the Mielle too! Going to set it out on the counter so I remember to use it. DIY hot oil treatment / mask tonight after dinner!!!

Re: 2025 Skincare Check-In Challenge: Week 6 - Stimulating Scalps

Ahhh, could it be time to get back on to your hair care journey? @jaaayp

I've used castor oil but never really figured out how to make it work with my fine hair. Listening to responses for this one 👂 🧐

Re: 2025 Skincare Check-In Challenge: Week 6 - Stimulating Scalps

I've definitely used OUAI Hydrating Scalp Serum for Healthy, Fuller Looking Hair 2 oz / 60 mL (🙌🏽 @TeamBIC ) and Briogeo Scalp Revival Charcoal + Coconut Oil Micro-exfoliating Scalp Scrub Shampoo 12 oz / 354 ml is a long time fave (I wish it still came in the tube vs tub IMO, much easier to apply), but lately I'm loving Ceremonia Aceite de Moska Pre-Shampoo Scalp & Hair Oil 2 oz / 60 mL .  I like that it's a dropper, you can zero right in.

Re: 2025 Skincare Check-In Challenge: Week 6 - Stimulating Scalps

Being able to pinpoint where product is applied is such a win @danielledanielle. I've tried a few samples of this one and it's among the better performing hair oils for me.

Re: 2025 Skincare Check-In Challenge: Week 6 - Stimulating Scalps

Going back to Week 5, the question about cleaning brushes, I just realized that every brush I used this week was from a different brand.

i used (left to right):  Wayne Goss, Sephora Collection, Artis, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Marc Jacobs, Patrick Ta, and Fenty Beauty.
