A for Apto Balancing mask Fit?Thinner cream. Spreads easy & a little goes a long way Smell? like green tea. its there but its pretty faint when wearing the mask. Consistency?May have some grit to it. Dries down but without tightness. It says to exfoliate before, i didnt this. time, but will next time. {i wanted to get a clear feel for the mask on its own} Ease of use?no issues, rinsed off with a cloth. easier with a cloth but did try with my hand Would I purchase/try again?I would try again. I felt it did a good job balancing my skin.. @eshoe

This one sounds like one my currently combination skin would like @sonnydee. Curious to know how it’s performance changes if at all if you exfoliate beforehand. 

My recollection is that the other mask you used from this brand also recommended that you exfoliate before using, which makes sense. I wonder if that recommendation is part of all of their masks. 🧐

i think i got 1 more use out of the turmeric mask- that one is thicker- will be exfoliating before I use either next time @itsfi @eshoe

I have their pomegranate mask too @itsfi will have to check...whenever i locate it. 🤦too many drawers....too small of containers but that one is fs so hopefully it'll be easier to find

@sonnydee, I rarely eat pomegranates but I’ve been intrigued with them as a skincare ingredient recently. I so hear you about finding my masks! It’s on my to do list this weekend. Have a great 4th with the fam! 💥

Interesting that the instructions suggest exfoliating first, @sonnydee. It makes sense, I think with any purifying mask, to prep your skin. But I’ve never considered it, but I think next time I use one I will preface it with the SEPHORA COLLECTION Clarifying Peel Pads 60 Pads. I think they would be gentle enough. Thanks for the tag, I’m definitely curious about this brand!

@eshoe @sonnydee, exfoliating before using most mask, not just purifying ones, is often a good thing to do (provided you’re not overexfoliating your skin). It sloughs away the dead skin cells sitting atop the surface of the skin, allowing the ingredients in the mask that follows to better penetrate or absorb into the skin.

@itsfi so a gentle exfoliating wipe like this would work, or maybe a very, very gentle cleanser like Tata Harper Regenerating BHA Exfoliating Cleanser 1.7 oz/ 50 mL prior to masking? I wonder if that is for 2-3x a week masking, vs daily masking🤔

I’m not sure I follow @eshoe. A gentle exfoliating wipe or the Tata Harper product 2-3x per week masking vs daily masking? 

Exfoliating the skin helps a sheet mask or wash off mask work better, but unless your skin can handle exfoliating daily, that’s not usually recommended. The Aptos masks that @sonnydee used that recommend exfoliating beforehand seems to be a mask you might use once or twice per week, and not on a daily basis. In that regard it makes sense that exfoliating beforehand would be suggested.

If daily masking, I would say that exfoliating once or twice per week should be plenty. There’s no need to exfoliate before each daily masking session and it would probably be too much to do that anyways for most people Some may be able to handle that much exfoliation but for most folks, it seems like it would be too much and be damaging to the skin barrier.
