Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Ooh, that steamer looks intriguing, @SportyGirly125! Glad to hear you're getting in some "me" time for masking!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@SportyGirly125  Oooh, this sounds so nice! What a wonderful Mother's Day present to yourself! I remember when my sisters and I would stick our faces over steaming bowls of water with towels over our heads 😉.... but this definitely sounds way more effective! haha! 😂 Glad to hear you'll be masking more! 👍

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Haha I am totally with you on the amazingness of a facial steamer @SportyGirly125 . I live along the coast and took mine to travel to Las Vegas last winter and it was the best decision. It saved my skin and I also convinced my travel buddy they are worth it. I’m happy to hear it’s encouraging you to mask more.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Face steamers are amazing @SportyGirly125! Yay for masking again!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I made the snail 🐌 the focus of one of my masking sessions earlier this week, with a T for the Taiwanese brand, Annie's Way (a favorite of mine) and the Korean brand TonyMoly. And, in another homage to the snail and the other theme of the week, G is for goo and gastropod - I learned that snails are gastropods. I learn so much from this thread. 🙂

Spoiler
Annie's Way Snail Repairing Jelly Mask claims to nourish the skin with long lasting moisture and purify pores. That sounds fabulous. Sign me up. This sweet-scented, thick, jelly wash off mask feels cooling and soothing upon contact with the skin. Directions suggest keeping the mask on for 15-30 minutes, unless you have sensitive skin, in which case, it's recommended you only keep the mask on for 5 minutes. My skin can be sensitive but it's never had an issue (that I recall) to snail mucin or to sodium hyaluronate, glycerin, or licorice root extract, all of which are present in this mask. There are wheat proteins and clary extract in this mask that I wasn't sure how my skin might respond to so I decided to just see how my skin felt at 5 minutes and go from there. No itching, tingling or stinging so I left it on for another 15-20 minutes.

When it came time to removing, I wasn't sure how this was going to work as this jelly is on the thicker, goopy, gel-like side. I typically remove wash off masks in the shower and I decided to do the same here, but took a washcloth with me in light of the consistency of the mask (which I would say most resembles the Sunday Riley R+R mask (which I love) minus the exfoliating granules/beads and/or the make p:rem in-shower gel mask). The washcloth ended up coming in handy; while the water from the shower removed much of the mask, there was a filmy layer of it no matter how much water I splashed on my face or the number of times I used my hands to massage some of it off. I may have applied too thick a layer. 🤷‍♀️ Anyhow,  a few gentle passes with the washcloth and the jelly mask was fully removed, leaving my skin feeling lightly hydrated and my complexion with a fresh faced brightness and the slight redness around my nose and cheeks seemed reduced.

Per the packaging, the mask is geared towards dry and normal skin. Hmmm... 🤔  It seems better suited for those with normal or combo skin year round and dry skin in the summer months. I *think* those with oily skin could use this if using a thin layer because the thickness of the jelly might be too much. The cooling and redness reducing effects from the mask however, would be great for all skin types.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi  Well crap, yet another line of masks I didn't know about and now need to collect 😬😂  Glad this one turned out nice! I'll definitely have to explore this line more!

So funny you used the word "gastropod" - my dad loves to use that word to describe people that are moving slowly, "you lazy bunch of gastropods!" Haha! 🤣 @missjeanie

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hahaha @Shosh85! 😂 I love that your dad uses the word “gastropod”!! 💕 You should join us in this game! 😃 Bonus points if you use it in Target. 🤣🤣 @missjeanie

I think these Annie’s Way masks may be the individual / sample / travel version of the wash off masks from the brand that come in large tubs. I actually thought it was a sheet mask when I first picked them up. Will have to rummage through my bin to see if I have the tub/jar of the snail one; I know I have a few of them but I can’t remember if I have the snail one. 🐌 I feel like I should have it. Hahaha! 😂

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi The cartoon on the front of the packaging!!  This one sounds great.  I've been loving Annie's Way as well and you've now taught me that a snail is a gastropod!  Your theme creativity never ceases to amaze me!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I’m pretty sure the packaging of this one is what drew me in @missjeanie. 😉 I stayed for the snail. 🐌  Er, the gastropod! 😆 I need to try to drop that into a conversation... maybe up the level of difficulty if I can do it on a Zoom call and watch people react and then try not to react. 🤪 Hahaha! 😂 That would be funny! I just need to be able to keep a straight face myself and just keep talking like it’s completely commonplace to use gastropod in a work conversation. 🤔 This is going to require some careful thought and planning if it’s going to work...

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

THIS!!! @itsfi I think we need a game where we pick a word and try to fit it into a meeting!  My ex and I used to challange each other with this, every morning we'd give each other a new word!  Gastropod is a great one to try and work in!  Please report back tomorrow!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I’m in @missjeanie!!! 😆 Will report back tomorrow. Okay, off to see which calls will be the most appropriate to do this in. Heehee!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Today has been a day y'all!!  Did I use y'all right??? lol Layoffs and Unions and Employers going crazy up here.  I don't think I've gotten much work done and likely won't... I've broken out the booze people lol!  Gotta get day 10's review from yesterday in before I can't type lol!

Spoiler
Sweet Chef Ginger and Vitamin C Fresh Pressed Sheet Mask.  I've used one of the other sweet chef masks in the past... and this one is exactly as I expected based on that first mask.  The mask itself had a light ginger scent that I enjoyed, it wasn't overpowering or harsh in any way.  The big drawback/flaw of this mask... the fit.  You guys it's comical, my face needs to be another 3-4 inches longer in order for this to work.  I tried to do some fancy folding/cutting etc, and frankly it looked like I belonged in a mummy movie the way everything was folded here there and everywhere.  The serum on this mask is the real winner.  I used this at the end of my day and I should have used it when I had somewhere to go...
Anyone think we'll start seeing more upper half face masks and lower half face masks after we're using actual masks to cover our mouths?  Random interlude there.  Apologies. Get back on track Shawna.
The serum, yes, I had the mask on for a half our and and that was about right for the amount of serum on the mask.  My face felt nice after taking this mask off.  It was a bit brighter, and I just looked more awake, even though I was getting ready for bed.  The tackiness frankly... I just don't know, I put my nighttime skincare on right away so, no real comment here.  I really enjoy the effects of this mask, just not the shape of the fabric itself.
I have purchased some of the Sweet Chef serums and I think the mist.  I'm actually really excited to get to trying them because of how much I enjoyed both of the masks from the line.  I'm working through some other open items right now, but will get to them this summer!
Has anyone else tried these?  Am I the only one excited for this line? My excitement was renewed with this mask!

Oh I forgot to say that there was enough extra serum in here that I coated my decollate and arms too!Oh I forgot to say that there was enough extra serum in here that I coated my decollate and arms too!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Would it help the fit if you cut the mask in half [horizontal] I've done that before just gave my tzone some extra love. And great job on the y'all! 😉 @missjeanie

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thanks @sonnydee !  That would have helped a lot I think.  Next time (I still have one of their masks left, (beet maybe?) I'll have to try placing the top half on my forehead and then making one big cut across before I even try placing the bottom half.  I checked and I have the ginger serum, so I'm going to compare the ingredients and possibly just skip their masks in favour of the serums.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@missjeanie  I’ve only tried one Sweet Chef mask, the kale one. I wasn’t impressed: it didn’t measure up to its claims, and the way-too-long fit was ridiculous. But I’m glad you enjoyed the ginger one, fit notwithstanding!

And hey, in my home, it’s bourbon o’clock or wine:30 earlier and earlier each week. 😄

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@WinglessOne The fit is just plain ridiculous on these!  I'm glad I'm not the only one imbibing a bit more often with this stay at home business!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@missjeanie  I used all 3 of these and I think the Ginger one was my favorite........ and I agree with your description of the fit! I couldn't find the picture of myself with the Ginger mask on, but the Kale mask fit the same way:

😂😂🤣🤣

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Yes!!! @Shosh85 who came up with this design??  I think Kale was the one I did the first time!  I really enjoyed the serum but the mask itself just had me wondering what they were thinking.  I did have a positive enough impression that I knew I wanted the serums though!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Sorry it's been a rough day for you @missjeanie!

I'm glad you reviewed this mask. I eyed one, the kale one, online at Target. I know, what was I doing looking a sheet masks? Hahaha! 🙂 This ginger one sounds good;  a mask that makes me look more awake can't be bad, especially with all the Zoom meetings/calls. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on the serums from the line.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hahaha !!! @itsfi I'm sure some Target window shopping is okay!  Things here are more entertaining than anything as I'm kinda a sit back and watch it all with the union.  This is the first union I've been a part of and my employer actually is really good to us (maybe I've just had some really bad employers?) so most of the time we don't have grievances etc.  This stuff going on now because of Covid and layoffs has made things very interesting and I'm just watching everyone else comment on everything now.  It's one of those sit back with popcorn moments.  I'm vested, but no where near as passionate and confrontational as some others!  I'm just gonna get my masking on and see how this all plays out.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@missjeanie, popcorn and masking while you watch the drama unfold!
