Mask of the Week Misc. Info & Previous Year's Links:

To Post:
Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas.

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks - Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

2018 Mask of the Week Challenge:

NEW!!! Got an idea for next year's challenge? Let me know! Was there a challenge you'd rather not repeat? Share below, so we can start building the 2021 schedule:

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

You're cracking me up with your themes @mrsmouse but I'm so sorry your skin went through that. Hope your peels, masks, and retinol are nice to your skin from now on.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

I have no one to blame, but myself @ShortErica.  Let's hope I don't have any further "WTF" themes for the rest of the year.  Smiley Wink  Currently, my skin is back to normal, so I'm ready for some fun masking this week.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Oh my, so glad you had Dr. Jart to the rescue, @mrsmouse. Sounds like a harrowing experience, but certainly one I have replicated, ha! Hoping your skin is 100% happy with you again Smiley Wink

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Thanks @eshoe!  It is better for sure and I'm back to my normal routine.  Smiley Happy

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@mrsmouse  Hope your skin recovers fast!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Thanks @ather!  It's actually MUCH better now!  The turning point seemed to happen when I slathered my skin with the Dr. Jart Cicapair sleeping mask.  It did wonders!  Smiley Happy

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

So sorry to hear your skin is in recovery mode, @mrsmouse! At least this mask sounds like it worked out pretty nicely!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Thanks for the sympathy @quspork!  I slathered the Dr. Jart Cicapair sleep mask on last night (thanks for reminding me about this @Shosh85) & my skin felt loads better today.  I still skipped the vitamin C and retinol though.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Ha!! Sept 2019.... i used one last year that expired like 3-5 years ago.... it didn’t have a date on it, but when I checked the manufacturers code it was extra old. Sephora collection I believe! A couple months is nothin’ @mrsmouse !
Glad it worked out well for some soothing of your skin too! Oh and I never remember all the alcohol stuff, but if I recall some alcohol is used to help the good stuff penetrate into the skin... or maybe I’m nuts and it’s just a preservative and I’m not remembering right.... but hey, what’s a bit booze from time to time anyway!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Haha!  3-5 years?!  Wow!  I don't know if I'm that brave.  Smiley Wink  I think you're right @missjeanie about some being good for you.  I think cetearyl alcohol is, but this one just straight up said "alcohol".  I prefer to drink my alcohol as opposed to wearing it, but at least it was towards the end of the ingredients instead of the beginning.  How do you find out the expiration by manufacturer's code?  I'd love to go through my masks and figure that out.  I had to buy a 5th bin to store them all.  I now have them separated out by year, but I have a whole bin & a half that I just don't know because there's no expiration date.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@mrsmouse I used a website called checkfresh dot com.  You can input the brand and the batch code and they'll tell you when it was made.  The site doesn't have every brand going, but it's not bad.  I'm horrible with expiration dates on makeup and skincare.  Part of wanting to pare down my collection is being able to use products more quickly instead of having them sitting around.

Masks... lol I went a little crazy last year... I have two nice wooden boxes on a dresser stuffed full of sheet masks, then I have a rolling suitcase on my floor with the rest of them.  At least I can roll it into my closet when I don't need it out.  Good heavens I need to use up some sheet masks lol

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Thanks so much for that page @missjeanie!  I'll definitely check it out and see what I have that's good vs what I have that isn't.  I feel you on going a little crazy last year with the mask purchases.  I called it my "no mask left behind" phase.  As a result, I am not lot allowing myself to purchase any masks with 2020 expiration dates unless I come across something truly spectacular.  This weekend I walked away from 3 packs of masks that I don't have because of this rule.  The reality is that I have more to get through with 2020 expiration dates than I have time to use them.  :/

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

I like your plan @mrsmouse . If I had better self control I’d give it a shot. I’m currently going with a ‘if one goes out one can come in’ rule. I’d really like to do better than that and use up more... but we shall see.... it’s January 13 and I’ve brought 23 items in. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Are we talking beauty items as a whole or just masks @missjeanie?  Because I was only talking about masks (and that rule doesn't include eye masks since I don't have a ton of those).  If we are talking beauty items in general then I've definitely brought stuff in.  Smiley Wink

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Bahaha!!! @mrsmouse  I thought we were talking beauty in general!

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

Haha! @missjeanie, then I'm totally guilty too!  Smiley Wink

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@mrsmouse  I wonder how many expired masks I’ve used.  Probably more than I know.  It doesn’t sound too expired and nothing bad happened so no foul. Smiley Very Happy

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@mrsmouse  Ha, I've used masks more expired than that 🤭🤫😂 Like everyone is saying, as long as it looks and smells fine, I'm good to go! 👍
So sorry to hear your skin isn't doing so well right now! I don't *think* I've tried anything with retinol in it yet, but I have had a terrible reaction to a face product before, so I definitely know it's not fun! Hopefully you're able find something to give you some relief! 😢

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@Shosh85, I really did a number on myself this time.  I've dropped the retinol altogether for the moment, along with the vitamin c.  The ceramidin liquid seems to be my skins best friend right now, and everything has to be patted on because I cannot tug on my skin even a little without it burning.  Smiley Sad

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@mrsmouse   If the thought of it doesn’t gross you out, horse oil is really nice for compromised skin.  I’m just going to keep pushing horse oil on people cause I love it so much.

Re: 2020 Mask of the Week Challenge

@heartsmyface,  To be honest, I've never seen nor tried it before, at least that I'm aware of, I'm down if it will help!  Do you have a specific brand recommendation or place to pick it up from?  All advice is welcome as my skin is metaphorically giving me the middle finger.
