Yeah it's not fun to have strong scents in facial products... Thanks for the tip! 🙂 @fatimamummy
So this isn't following this weeks challenge... but I just wanted to report back on the Consonant HydrExtreme sheet masks. @eshoe @itsfi
Some of you may know that the Consonant HydrExtreme is one of my favorite products. It's one I've recommended time and time again on BT/BIC because it is just that good. 😄 Obviously when I saw there was a new sheet mask version I wanted to try it. 😄 I bought the 4 pack and so far I've used two. My first impressions weren't that great though. I'm not sure what was wrong with the mask but the scent was awful... like moth balls and tar. It was so bad it gave me a slight headache. After trying it I decided to email the company. They told me they weren't sure what was wrong but that it should be a citrus scent. So while chatting with them I decided to try another from my 4 pack. That one was much better! It did not have the awful scent and smelled very citrusy just like they had said. They will be sending me a replacement mask for the one that had the odd scent. Yay!
So as I said the mask has a strong lemon/citrus scent to it. I can handle it despite my sensitivities but do find it a tad strong. There was a decent amount of product on the mask but none left in the packaging. The fit was pretty good for me except the eye area and it adhered well to my face. The upper lip area dried up at around the 20 minute mark and the chin area at about 30 minutes. They say to leave it on between 20-30 minutes. I did an extra 10 because it was still wet in some areas. There was a very slight tackiness to the touch after removing it, but that went away after applying moisturizer. My skin did feel soft, looked more plumped/hydrated and maybe a bit brighter. I'll have to try it again to really see how I feel but so far at that price point I'd rather spend my money on the serum. Yes it's a pretty expensive product but you don't need much and makes a huge difference, especially in winter.
The 4 pack of sheet masks is available at Sephora Canada: https://www.sephora.com/ca/en/product/hydrextreme-charcoal-sheet-mask-pack-P448801
(not my pic)
Thank you for the detailed review @veronika23 I keep meaning to pick HydrExtreme but can’t figure out where to fit it in my routine. Do you use it before or after another serum or on its own?
Based on your review I think I may invest into serum instead of masks.
You're welcome @fatimamummy 🙂 I've used it on it's own when I feel my skin needs a break from everything but I also use it in my routine. Usually right after my essence before my other serums. It has a very light watery consistency so it goes on almost first. I've used it on my eyes too. If I have a dry patch somewhere I'll use it on that as well. Like sometimes I might get a dry patch or an eczema patch and will use that on it. You can also mix a drop or two in your moisturizer. I usually buy it when Sephora has their sale in the fall. Well.ca also sells it and they sometimes have 20% off too. Too bad we don't have it at Costco in Canada... So far I do think the serum is much better than the masks. Let me know if you have more questions. 🙂 It's truly a little gem!
Thank you for all the tips and info @veronika23 Thats super helpful.
Thank you for tagging me, @veronika23 It does sound like the citrus may have turned; if it has grapefruit in it, I think that is the most volatile one. I've seen the serum on Costco's site but always waver on it. I appreciate the shorter ingredient list!
It's nice to hear the company worked with you and will be replacing the bad mask. Hope it turns out to just be a fluke;)
@eshoeoh yeah could be that for sure! If it's a good price you should definitely try it! It's 150$ here but last I heard it was like 60$ or lower at Costco in the US. That's a great price! Thanks! It was really nice of them. Hope it was a fluke too. 🙂
Hmmm I’m wondering if it was the serum or an oil, @veronika23. It was only $30😳 I think I missed the serum!
OMG that is insane!!! At that price you need it!!!! 😄 It's a very watery serum. You only need a few drops too, either in your moisturizer or directly on your face. It's also the best for dry patches! @eshoe
Yes the second one was much better than the first! Thank goodness. 😄 @l8totheparty
@veronika23 It's so strange the first one smelled so bad - could they tell you why that happened? Glad the others were better! I can't do strong rose/floral scents, but for some reason strong citrus/fruity scents are fine for me. 🤔 Sounds like they turned out great - I like the idea of just buying the serum! There have been a lot of masks I've loved the serum, but not really anything else and it would be nice to have the option to buy the serum separately. 😃
@Shosh85 it is. No. They had no clue and was super surprised by it. They said they've been getting good feedback and this was the first time someone ever mentioned something like that. Yeah can't really do strong floral scents either... and like you they seem to bother me more than fruity scents. I know what you mean by having the option to buy just the serum... in this case the serum only has two ingredients vs the mask that has way more. So they aren't exactly the same...
@veronika23 I think I like that the serum only has two ingredients! It would be interesting to compare!
Yeah it's nice that it has only two. So far I think I'd rather invest in the serum. You should check Costco if you can... it used to be available there for cheap. 🙂 @Shosh85
@veronika23 Thanks for the review! That’s so weird that the first set had a weird scent, but I’m glad you got a replacement. I haven’t tried this brand, but I just looked up the serum and it looks really nice.
@PrettyPaint yeah I thought it was pretty odd too. The serum is really worth it IMO. If you have a Costco membership it's been spotted there in the past for a fraction of the price. US only though. I've never seen it at Costco in Canada... and the brand is Canadian... go figure. lol
@veronika23 I have actually never stepped foot in a Costco (don’t think there are any nearby), but that’s so funny that you don’t have it in yours if it’s a Canadian brand! I’ll definitely keep the serum in mind for wintertime when my skin is feeling dreadful.
@PrettyPaint yeah I don't get why we don't have it here... ugh. They might also sell it online at Costco so if you know anyone with a membership it's worth looking into because I remember the price being super cheap compared to what we pay.
Based on your experience, it makes sense to invest in the serum vs. the face masks. Thanks for your review @veronika23!
