2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Welcome to the second half of the challenge. Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

( see spoiler for the ingredients list and their purpose ). After patting it into my face and neck, I used the Leaders Insolution Anti-aging Treatment Mask which was a gift from master masker @itsfi ( Hugs to you my friend 🤗 ! ). This cotton mask helps to reduce fine lines and improve skin elasticity. The ingredients list is quite impressive: peptides, sodium hyaluronate, sugar maple extract just to name a few, see spoiler for ingredients list. I left it on until the mask was dry so that my skin could fully benefit from the ingredients. The usual application time is 15-20 minutes. After removing this gem of a mask I just patted the areas where the serum hadn’t fully absorbed. I have to mention that this mask has a nice subtle “ clean “ scent which was great since I don’t enjoy strong fragrances in sheet masks or in skincare products. This mask left my skin soft, some fine lines were smoothed out, very hydrated and moisturized. Grade A+. Unfortunately this mask isn’t available anymore ( I checked the Leaders and Yesstyle websites ) but it’s been replaced by 2 other sheet masks that contain similar ingredients. Both masks are called Wrinkle Off ( one is black since it contains charcoal and the other one is white and is a hydrogel mask infused with marine plant extracts ) and sound great. Both masks should be A+ masks IMO. When I’m over my low buy, which I’m committed to, I’ll order a multipack ( 10 masks ) of both masks since they are suited for mature skin and dry skin types 1FA7CA72-EACB-42DD-BD10-AF3EA4F72741.jpeg

I don’t know what went wrong with my post ? Sorry for the screw up 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ !

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Ooooh another mask with maple sugar, @keana1! What a bummer that it’s no longer available. I’ve come to accept that’s just part of the deal with masking. Don’t get too attached to a mask, and if you do buy one and love it, buy a backup immediately 😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I agree 100% with you @eshoe ! There are other similar masks available from Leaders so I’m not worried !

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I was worried about the smell of the mask since fragrance was in the middle of the ingredients. Glad it was a nice subtle scent @keana1. That beauty water looks good. Now I'm curious about its full ingredient list since those key ones look great.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I can’t take a picture of the ingredients because they’re printed on the bottle @ShortErica so I’ll write them: Aqua ( water ), glycerin, Albizia Julibrissin Bark extract, Rosa Damascus Flower extract, Soluble Collagen, Helichrysum Italicum extract, Bellis Perennis ( daisy ) flower extract, Marrubium Vulgare extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, sodium PCA, disodium EDTA, citric acid, phenoxyethanol, ethylhexylglycerin.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thanks a bunch for taking the time to type them out for me @keana1! This product looks really great. I need to add it to a list. Smiley Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

You’re welcome @ShortErica ! Some of the ingredients have complicated latin names ! I’m glad that I’m not a herbalist! 😂

PS : It didn’t come in a box, it would have been easier to take a picture of the ingredients but it’s my pleasure to have written them down for you! The full ingredients list isn’t available online either. If you want some ingredients list of other of her products, I can go to the pharmacy where I usually buy them and take a picture with my iPad ( I don’t have a smartphone 🙄 ). Just let me know!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It seems like a distant memory now but probably 2016 was when I got my first smartphone. Until that point I would use my iPad (from work) as my smart device while out and about too @keana1!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

In Canada, unless you’re a student, it’s expensive compared to the US to own a smartphone and the service providers charge ridiculously expensive fees so I keep my flip-phone with me in case of an emergency @ShortErica !

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

The ingredients in the KJ Youth Elixir look phenomenal @keana1! *adding to my list

Hmm...I wonder if Sephora USA will carry it or if it is exclusive to Sephora Canada?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It’s not sold by Sephora @itsfi , you can order it online at the Karine Joncas website, they deliver to the USA. For now it’s OOS on her site ! Bummer! I have no idea how much it costs for US customers and what the shipping fees are? When I google her site, it knows that my IP address comes from Canada so I only have access in Canadian dollars. Maybe if you google the website you’ll get the info in American currency?

oh boo for not being available anymore @keana1 sounds great

oh boo for not being available anymore @keana1 sounds great

Re: oh boo for not being available anymore @keana1 sounds great

🥺😢🥺 @lmaster !

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@keana1 Darn, it's too bad these aren't available anymore! It sounds so great! I'm happy it worked so well for you! They sold it on Masksheets(dot)com, but it is now saying out of stock. I'm wondering if you've ever tried this mask?👇69A5FEFD-32B6-410E-8587-8C3F071CDB96.jpeg

It also has similar ingredients👇

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85 I haven’t tried this one before, but it sounds as good as the one I tried. The ingredients do look similar! Thanks for letting me know about this one!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@keana1  @Shosh85  I'm wondering if there's been a reformulation or repackaging or if packaging is different for different markets? Because there are two different packages for the Leaders Aquaringer sheet masks also and and that is in the same line of masks as the Anti-Aging one - the design for one package looks similar to the design of the one used by keana1 and the design for another package looks similar to the design in shosh85's post.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It just adds to the confusion about all of these masks @itsfi @Shosh85 ? They all have ingredients that are the same but not in the same order, and other ingredients are totally different. All I know is that they’re all cotton sheet masks!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@keana1  @itsfi  I noticed the two different types of packaging too – it sure does seem like reformulation/repackaging. I've looked over a few different varieties and it does seem they have mostly the same ingredients, just moved around. What I've seen so far in the few I've checked, the type of packaging keana1 used has sodium hyaluronate as the 3rd in the list of the ingredients – the type of packaging I posted has it listed half way down. In my opinion, I think I'd like it better higher up in the list. I'd be interested to know for sure if these are reformulated and repackaged. 🤔
