This is perfect @ShortErica now I have to watch that movie!!
Alright I am back in the game here with an absolute stretch on this week's letter LOL. My face has been feeling weirdly dry lately because it cant really decide what season it is here. Well go from 9C and torrential raining one day to 25C and full sun the next! So I teamed up the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask, a perennial favorite, and my other W, which is for WOW I FORGOT HOW MUCH I LIKED THIS, which is the Fresh Rose Face Mask.
Excuse the photo quality. My phone went for a swim with me the other day and somehow still has function but is certainly compromised. I'll be getting a replacement tomorrow.
I'm not gonna go too much into the Laneige because everyone has tried it at this point, but if you haven't, I'm sure you have a DS laying around and I highly recommend you give it a go! The only thing I will say is that I picked up the lavender one, and ended up exchanging it for the original because the lavender didnt work as well. It was kinda tacky and my face didn't feel as hydrated the next day.
Fresh is a brand I come and go with. I normally like the products when I use them, but don't find myself reaching for them. It doesn't really excite me as a brand for some reason.
I forgot the consistency of this mask. It's a deep amber color with pieces of rose. If you know the Fresh rose petal toner, it looks like that. It is very thin. Like to the point where I put it on, and it's hard to tell where I put it unless I look for the sheen. It does smell like dried roses. I didn't love the smell, but didn't notice it while it was on. It's a little sticky going on, but I prefer that because it's so thin that I was afraid that it would slip off. It stayed put really well.
The key ingredients are cucumber, rosewater and aloe, which is a winning g combination for my sensitive skin. There is apparently a "smart algae" in there for hydration, and green tea for toning. The mask was supposed to be left on for 5-10 mins. I was watching TV and it probably was on for 25. It did dry up. I'll take it off at the 15 or 20 min mark next time. It was easy to remove with warm water.
My face didn't feel tight, in fact it felt hydrated and soft. It is supposed to tone and brighten, but that's not something I can really see in one use. My face may have been a bit more glowy, but for brightness I always prefer a vitamin C mask. This combination with the laneige was a winner. I woke up this morning with hydrated, soft and happy skin. I know the fresh is partially responsible because I use the laneige without it so I have basis for comparison. Not a ground breaking mask, but for someone who needs a rotation of hydrating mask staples, this is a nice one to keep around, especially because it only needs 5-10 mins (as per their recomendation). Solid B+. Would have given it an A- but at $62 CAD for a FS, ehhhh. Especially because I would never buy 100ml.. I doubt I would be able to finish it before it expires.
I think it would be hard to find a stretch in this challenge, @cianni - always some way a mask can fit in to the challenge 😄
@cianni That's great that your phone took a swim and still working - that's pretty impressive!
These are some great masks and it's nice they do so well together! I'm happy it turned out well! I liked the results of the Fresh Rose but I'm not in love with the scent either - I'm just not a big fan of floral, but I do prefer this fresh scent over a perfumey rose scent. 😃
@Shosh85 the phone is starting to have a mind of its own, so im happy to be replacing it tomorrow. it still works but the volume likes to increase or decrease at will, and the ringer and notification sounds keep turning on and off, so its kinda hard to bring it around because i have no idea what itll do next LOL. i agree with you on the scent - im getting a little wary of any scent really in skincare now. i do like a fresh scent but im just as satisfied with no scent at all (or sheet mask smell haha). perfume-y roses make me think of grandmas? idk hahahah
@cianni Haha! Totally agree with your perfumey roses and grandmas comment! 😂🌹
Believe it or not, I’ve never tried Leneige anything. Apparently I’m not one of the cool kids. 😉 Must try this. I have tried the Fresh mask. I have mixed feelings. The smell was ok, but it was so sticky. I was glad I just had a sample.
@divaknits do you have any DS? i find laneige lip and sleeping masks pop up fairly often in favourites kits and GWP. maybe in sub boxes too? i dont have any subs because theyre always kind of a pain shipping to Canada for any of the ones i was interested in, and sephora play isnt available here. the DS sizes always last a long time. ive been working on a 3g laneige lip mask for what feels like an eternity, and i have another one waiting when i finally finish it LOL
I have a drawer full of DS, but no Leneige. I’ll have to keep an eye out. I’ve wanted to try their stuff.
@cianni Yes, the Laneige mask is a love. thanks for you thoughts on the Lavender. I was curious about it. How is the scent?
the only Fresh mask i've tried is the seaweed one which has bits of seaweed. I'm not too familiar with Fresh, I've seen and heard about them but havent tried much of it, but it sure seems like they have bits in their products which I think it pretty neat.
@GalPalVal17 i thought the lavender would be nice and soothing, but i didnt find it to have a strong scent, especially when on the face. i also have been reading up on essential oils and long term use in skincare, so it probably wasnt even worth the lavender oil because this is a product i use on a regular basis.
the brand in general doesnt really excite me, but ive always had great luck with the items i have tried. in a way thats better because its a more consistent brand, versus some more gimmicky ones (like glamglow, in my opinion). whats nice about fresh is that most of their masks are actually only intended to be on for 3-5 mins or 5-10 depending on the type, and that is so invaluable when youre like me and always in a rush/running late
@cianni thanks for your thoughts on the Lavender. That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw they had that other scent. And yes, I agree, consistency over gimmicky. Sometimes if's fun to try those masks but its even better when you have a go to you know will work the way you want it to when you need it to. The only other Laneige product I think I've tried is the lip sleep mask, which I love. I do want to try the eye sleep mask and some of their sheet masks.
It’s still cold up here @itsfi ! I’m still wearing jeans and fleece jackets, people today were wearing down coats and wool hats ! I don’t even know if I’ll be able to wear sandals, shorts or summer dresses! Everyone is aggressive and on edge! We wait 9 months for summer to arrive and it’s not coming! Dang ! 🤬 In 1976 we received our permanent resident visa to move to the USA and my parents decided not to move to the USA to my dismay! We were supposed to move to Virginia close to where we had lived for one year when my dad had a student visa and we had a visitors visa ! Dang again! I even bought an American flag 🇺🇸 and it was in my room! I knew the Pledge of Alliance by heart and patriotic songs, gosh I don’t even know our Canadian anthem by heart ( I’m so ashamed, they never taught it in school in the province of Quebec, what a shame! ). At least I also have a Canadian flag🇨🇦 and I put it on the clothes line on the first of July ( Canada Day ) and on July 4th I do the same thing with the American flag. Neither touch the ground out of respect!
@itsfi LOL! my algae has very specific IQ requirements hahhaha. i feel like DS are the way to go with most masks (for me at least) between the weather and how finnicky my skin is, i dont think i could commit to using a FS of any specific mask. plus the little containers are perfect for travel and SO cute. i love good packaging because i re-use basically everything
This is a great combo, @cianni! Sidenote: I'm amazed your phone was still able to function after taking a dip.
