2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Welcome to the second half of the challenge. Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks - Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thank you @annahoang! I'm happy with these A'Pieu daily sheet masks; will be interesting to see what sort of results I get, if any, after a month of use.

The mask holder is the nicest, most comfortable one of its kind that I've tried so far. I know that Nurse Jaime put one out around the same time as (or maybe it was before) this one from the Sephora Collection. I haven't tried that one; not sure if I will. This one wears so comfortably.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi so glad you are loving your mask holder! Thanks for the info on your morning masks as well

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@lmaster, I'm super surprised how much I enjoyed this mask holder. I've tried a handful and this is the only one that I've found not to hurt to have on - always a plus! lol! Smiley Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I'll probably have to get 1 of these. You know I'm all about the multi-tasking-masking! 🤗@itsfi thanks for including it in your review!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Love multi-tasking masking @sonnydee! Smiley Happy And I love the phrase you coined!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

So good to hear your update on the daily masking. Glad to hear that the mask holder was comfy for you @itsfi

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@emaisgr8, I'll try to post an update every 7-10 days. It's a good reminder to look into how it's working out with these daily sheet masks. Smiley Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi that Sephora silicone sheet was in and out of my basket countless times. Going to pick it up now, thank you for the review. I know I can trust you. Btw my daughter is currently mesmerized with John Legend’s “Pitera” ode to SK-II😆

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I didn't even know John Legend had a new song out, let alone that it was an ode to SK-II?! Ha!  Just looked it up on YT. LOVE #PiteraMasterclass! Your daughter is on top of it @eshoe! But we already knew that! Smiley Wink

I was surprised by the face mask holder. I thought it'd be like the other ones I tried and I was dreading trying it out but it's a nice one - wears so comfortably, as is often the case when my face is not smooshed every which way and my ears don't hurt from the ear loops. hahaha! Let us know what you think of it.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Ha it’s pretty good isn’t it @itsfi? Now she wants fancy water too 💧but that will have to wait quite a few years. Bought the mask, excited to try it. I was waffling between that and Nurse Jamie. I’ve seen others as well but never decided on one. Looking forward to it!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

A is for Argan Oil01DC04BA-E49B-4AB5-9211-377E71D94DBF.jpeg

NEOGEN Argan Oil Essential Mask

This is a thin cotton sheet that had plenty of serum with a pleasant scent that was sort of hard to describe - fruity/citrusy with something else that I can't quite pinpoint. I guess I'd call it a fruity/citrus scent with a side of a fresh and clean/floral? It had a great fit - just a smidge too long at the chin. It adhered very well and was super comfortable to wear the 30 minutes I had it on. When I removed it there was quite a bit of serum leftover that was pretty tacky. The tackiness gradually absorbed on its own after about a half hour. (If you really hate tack, you probably wouldn't like this one) The super dry skin I started out with felt so soothed, refreshed and completely hydrated. My face felt soft, looked slightly brighter and had a very nice glow.

It's unfortunate that it has Alcohol Denat so high up in the ingredients - otherwise I'd definitely use these up fast and repurchase more because they'd make great primer masks. I'm hoping that by finding these at TJ Maxx it could mean they're reformulating a new version without alcohol....wishful thinking, I suppose.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I picked up a few of these and was so disappointed in myself for not checking the ingredients first, @Shosh85. I know better Smiley Very Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Sounds like some great results, @Shosh85!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@quspork The results were great! I just wish the alcohol wasn't stopping from using it more! ☹️

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85 the papaya and orange really grab my attention too 😒 lucky you 😆

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@lmaster I loved that it had a fruity/citrusy kind of scent! I just really wish they didn't mess it up by adding alcohol ☹️

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

For sure @Shosh85 there's so many new masks I want to try, but I just can't bc of alcohol 😤

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I would probably pass on this based on tackiness, but some people might not mind.  Thanks for the review! @Shosh85

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@l8totheparty Yeah, I'm sure a lot of people would pass on this one due to the alcohol and tackiness. Tacky masks have never really bothered me and since I do a lot of morning masking they work out great as primers. 😃

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85, such a bummer about denatured alcohol being so high up on the ingredients list - major booooo!!! If you picked it up at TJ Maxx, it must have been for a good price for a box so you just have to space out using this one with other masks with alcohol high on the ingredients list. Keeping my fingers crossed for you that there is a reformulation of this mask and that removing alcohol is part of that reformulation.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi I was so sad to find out it had alcohol in it! If it weren't for the alcohol I probably would've picked up more, but I didn't think I'd be able to use up that many before they expire, especially if I'm having to space them out.
