2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Welcome to the second half of the challenge. Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks - Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It’s just because this thread is so awesome @eshoe. Good problem indeed.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Awesome A’s @eshoe! 💕 Curious, is there tea in the sheet mask or is the reference to “tea ampoule” meant as a play on the brand name, Cosmetea?

Thank you @annahoang for helping with the spreadsheet! 🤗💗

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Ok heading back to the ingredients which I meant to include @itsfi

It’s possible that the 5th or 6th ingredients are some sort of tea leaf. I don’t see anything else that says, “tea” like those two might🤔

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe, the fourth ingredient is oolong tea extract. 👍🏼 I was going to look up the two ingredients you mentioned but saw that it’s on the package itself. It’s the ingredient depicted in that second circle in the section immediately before the illustrated instructions with the image of a woman’s face and the sheet mask. Thanks for the pic of the back of the mask! 😊

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Yes I see it now, @itsfi! My scanning eyes overlooked that. Thank you for pointing it out, nice to know 😊

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe, looking at the back side of the mask now from my laptop (and being more awake this morning), it says it in the section above too. Making a note to self, "Self, wake up fully before jumping onto BIC!" hahaha! Smiley Wink

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

A good rule of thumb @itsfi 😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It was about the A’s for hydration week yesterday – aqua and AmorePacific! After a day of work, play and 4th of July festivities, hydration inside and out was definitely on order!

I love AMOREPACIFIC - Treatment Enzyme Peel Cleansing Powder – it’s such a quick and easy peel and cleanser in one and my face loves this stuff. I think you can still pick up a DS of it online with the promo code FABFOAM and a $25 minimum spend. A little goes a long way so that DS will definitely last a while.  KIEHL'S SINCE 1851 - Kiehl's Lip Balm #1 was one of the first fancy lip balms I ever used; it may have been the first in fact. It was great them and it’s great now. After using those two staples, I reached for the Scinic My Juicy Bottle Mask Aqua Ampoule Juice Sheet Mask – how cute is the packaging! It even tells you not to drink the sheet mask…so I didn’t; instead, I reached for my water bottle to chug some water beforehand.

About the sheet mask:
Mask NameMy Juicy Bottle Mask Aqua Ampoule Juice Sheet Mask
Type of MaskSheet
Material (if sheet mask)Cotton
Essence / SerumWatery, liquidy - not as much essence as most sheet masks but still enough so the sheet mask was full of it
Extra Essence in pouch?No
Intended PurposeHydrating and Moisturizing
Notable IngredientsHyaluronic acid and bamboo extract
FitLess adjustments needed for this sheet mask than for most others - about an inch too long at the chin and maybe 3/4" too wide at that temples and needing adjustments to just the inner corner of the eyes.
ScentClean, fresh - there's something just a little bit extra about the scent on this one that keeps it from being what I would consider that 'signature sheet mask scent'.
Suggested Wear Time10-20 minutes - I kept it on for 30 and I think that's about right for this one; could probably go for a total 40-45 minutes before it starts to dry out
Notes This one adhered well and wore comfortably - not second skin comfortable but comfortable enough. By the time I removed it, the drier parts of my face had just a little bit of excess essence left; and the oilier parts had just a little bit more so I think the sweet spot for this mask is 30-40/45 minutes wear time. No tacky feeling with this sheet mask and my skin feels hydrated and moisturized. I could see myself skipping moisturizer in the warmest part of the summer following this sheet mask. Since I'd been for most of the day and as I'm getting ready for another plane ride, I went with my moisturizer and a sleeping mask just to make sure my skin is nicely hydratred and moisturized for my upcoming airplane travels.

Before I called it a night, I applied a thin layer of the BELIF - Aqua Bomb Sleeping Mask (love this stuff) and then drifted off to la la land.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

This sounds like a beautiful mask, @itsfi! And regarding the 'don't drink' warning, there are also 'don't eat' warnings on the DIY masks Smiley Wink @quspork @keana1 <3

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Are you referring to when I tried to bite a sheet mask pellet @eshoe ? 😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Ummmmmm, maybe @keana1 😆🤣😘

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Everytime I see a mask pellet, I start laughing at myself because I remember the time I tried to take a bite @eshoe ! 😂 Do you remember when I tasted the Fresh Vitamin Nectar Mask? It didn’t taste like marmalade at all ! I think I’m done tasting masks ! 😂😜

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@keana1 I’ve found in general, they don’t taste nearly as good as they smell😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Don't drink the sheet mask, LOL... glad to hear this is a good one, @itsfi!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@quspork, I thought the “don’t drink” warning was cute too! 😊 Then I wondered 🤔 if it was added on there because people did try to drink the essence. 😲😳 Love that this one hydrated my skin so well! 💙

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

LOL- you know someone did... isn't that how we get all warning labels?? @itsfi

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi love how organized your reviews are!!!

Yay for a no tacky feeling after the sheet mask! The sheet mask sounds great, and the packaging def is very cute!!!!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Aww, you’re so kind @annahoang! 🥰 Thank you! And huge thank you for helping with the spreadsheet!

I was amazed there was zero tackiness! Love it! 💙 I’m pretty sure I picked this one up because of the cute packaging; so happy it performs well too! 👍🏼😃

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi Oooh, besides the fit, that mask sounds wonderful! The packaging really does make you thirsty! I'm happy this one turned out so great! 😃

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85, it’s probably why my skin was drawn towards it - it was thirsty for hydration! 😆 If the essence on a sheet mask is good, that’s a huge plus for me. Most fit issues I can generally overlook if adherence is good, since I keep a pair of mini scissors around.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I, too, love the Amorepacific peel powder! AMOREPACIFIC - Treatment Enzyme Peel Cleansing Powder

I will add this mask to my list.  Where did you purchase it?
