2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Welcome to the second half of the challenge. Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@nuinui933, I've tried a 5-day or 7-day pack of one of daily masks from this brand, a different one than the one you used but it also had a very strong menthol smell to it that I didn't care for. It definitely woke me up on the mornings when I used it. lol. Smiley Wink I finished the A'Pieu daily sheet masks last month and liked them; they were unscented.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi - unscented seems like the way to go with daily sheet masks. I'll see if the stores near me carry that brand.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Too bad about the strong smell @nuinui933, that definitely will ruin a mask for me.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Went to dinner and a musical last night, but did some pleasantly peachy primping and pampering before heading out. Smiley Wink

Except for the Biobelle #Peachy sheet mask, which was the mask choice for this month’s meet up, I’ve used all of the other items. The Iroha hand and foot masks have a lovely peach scent to them and leave my hands and feet soft and nicely nourished and moisturized.  I wore the Choosy lip mask (peach flavored, of course! lol) underneath the Biobelle sheet mask as I find the lip masks work slightly better this way. Lip masks like this Choosy one are a smidge gimmicky in my mind, at least when worn by themselves, but they do an okay job of moisturizing the lips (albeit temporarily) when worn underneath a sheet mask. I like the thinner formula of LANEIGE - Lip Glowy Balm - Peach for daytime wear or to hydrate and prep the lips a bit before applying lipstick.

The Biobelle #Peachy mask is made of what we would otherwise consider Tencel fiber, although this one leans thicker than most of the second-skin like fabric I associate with the natural man-made fiber material that comes from the pulp of the eucalyptus tree.  The front and back of the packet I have does not contain the “Tencel” designation but, interestingly, the photos of the front side of the sheet mask on the Biobelle, Kohl’s and Ulta websites all contain the Tencel designation. [ETA: @Shosh85  mentioned this in a follow up to her original post on the sheet mask. Shosh, I didn’t see your post on this until after I put up this one.] Wait, what?! So I did a little bit of research and learned that “TENCEL” has a trademark attached to it. I don’t know why the masks in the photos on these retailer’s sites do contain the TENCEL designation I’m used to seeing on Tencel fabric sheet masks and the sheet masks that I have (from orders I made as well as from gifts from the ever generous and kind @PrettyPaint@Shosh85 and @lmaster  - thank you ladies!) do not have that designation. I came up with a couple of possible reasons but I don’t know for sure so these are complete guesses as far as I’m concerned – maybe the ones without the Tencel designation were printed in error and perhaps that’s why some of these masks were so heavily marked down at the beginning? Or, maybe they couldn’t put it on there when they started churning out the masks? I dunno, but my curiosity is now piqued, and I’m contemplating putting in another order for these sheet masks to see if those have anything on the outside to say that they’re made of Tencel fiber. I’m on a low(er) buy but I think I haaaave to research this thoroughly, right? Ha!ArrowRight

Anyhow, back to the sheet mask itself, it’s designed to resemble a peach and is full of a peach-and-floral-ish scented essence that I liked. There’s enough essence in the packet to apply it to your body or if desired, to save for use the next day in lieu of your essence step. I made adjustments to the length and corners of the eyes, nose and mouth so the adherence on this mask was fine for me, but I might see next time if the mask holder would help make it better. My skin looked fresh, hydrated and glowy after an half hour of wear time and this mask served as a nice prep for my makeup.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

How strange about the whole tencel designation! Aside from that, this sounds like a lovely peach-themed mask sesh, @itsfi!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@quspork, it was peachy! 🍑😂 Will definitely be interesting to find out what happened with the Tencel designation.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi Can never go wrong with a peach theme! I'll be curious to know what you find out with BioBelle. I was thinking of going to Kohl's tomorrow and checking them out myself 😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Right @Shosh85?! Love peach skincare goodies. 🍑 I’m going to place an order tonight from a couple of places and see what comes in.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi I went to Kohl's yesterday and it looks like these don't have tencel written on the front either. The non-fruity ones do though. (Rose All Day and Vitamin Sea) I'll be interested what the ones you get in the mail look like!224BC7EE-6704-48F3-8EDC-276D3441B966.jpeg

@eshoe @lmaster @RGbrown

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

This is so odd @Shosh85 do you think they are different material, or it's just missing the verbage

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@lmaster From what I'm hearing, the fruity ones are tencel, just a new/different kind. The issue is that if you look online the fruity ones do say tencel.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85 if they are calling that thicker material tencel now,,, I don't like it 😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thanks for the tag, @Shosh85. I emailed the company but haven’t heard back yet.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Ah, the mask holder would have been helpful for this one, wish I would have thought of that last night @itsfi. Hopefully the musical was enjoyable - we just went to one last weekend!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

If only we could rewind and redo our masking efforts, right @eshoe?! I'm constantly thinking of other things or pairings that might have worked better afterwards. Sigh. That's how it goes, I suppose. lol.

Ohhh, what musical did you see? We went to see Hamilton; it was really good! The 3 hours flew by! Made me remember how much I love musicals; it's been a long while since I've been to the theater. Need to try to fit that in more.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Me too, @itsfi. The sorry thing is that I set the Sephora mask aside to use for this week and forgot to use it 🙄

It was a children’s musical, Chitty-Chitty Bang-Bang. It was a very small theater, 350 seats, and the stage was in the center. Very intimate and a little exciting being so close to the action! Hamilton sounds fun, from the little I’ve heard😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I *love* musicals! @itsfi @eshoe

So lucky!  🎤🎵🎶

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Any particular favorites? @l8totheparty @eshoe

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

The Phantom of the Opera stands out as top, along with Les Misérables! Both in London, England (so they had that going for them as well).  I've also enjoyed Chicago and Wicked and, well, there are more I've enjoyed than not. You?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

My parents saw Phantom in London, @l8totheparty @itsfi, they raved about it! I saw Les Misérables years ago, that will probably stand as my favorite musical. The Nutcracker (though it’s a ballet) is my favorite live performance because the girls in my family used to see it together every year.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe @itsfi @l8totheparty the nutcracker is my most favorite ever!! Used to go see it every year with my gma, I need to start the tradition with my daughter 😊
