2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Welcome to the second half of the challenge. Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Spoiler
Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It must have been pretty strong @Shosh85, you usually tolerate quite a bit of ‘ugh’ in masks!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thanks for the review of this one, @Shosh85. It sounds like an interesting one, though I'm surprised that it claimed hydration as a perk given the fact that it's a detoxifying mask. Those two things just don't usually go together in my head!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@quspork Yeah, detoxifying and hydrating definitely don't seem to go together. Most things that claim to detoxify usually dry me out, so I wasn't expecting it at all. 🤷‍♀️

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Mmmm, yeah I don’t like it already just hearing about the floral scent.  Makes you wonder how bad it smelled without the added fragrance.    I do like that it cleared your skin and left it not too dry.  That’s a difficult balance to make.  @Shosh85

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@heartsmyface It probably would have been better without the added fragrance – I have a feeling it would've had more of an herbal scent. This mask wasn't what I'd expecting it'd be, but at least the results turned out good! There are better smelling masks out there with the same results, so this won't be a repurchase.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thanks for reviewing this one @Shosh85! I wondered about it. Especially the scent; I’m a little sensitively to scent and there are some that I don’t do well with so this is helpful.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi I definitely wasn't expecting the scent and color this mask ended up being! It turned out great though, and was only $2.50 at Walmart, so that's a plus 😉👍

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oh, that's good to know @Shosh85! I've only seen this mask on amazon and it comes in a set of like 10! I don't need 10 more masks; I don't really need another one at the moment. Hahaha! Smiley Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

You tend to find some affordable and good masks @Shosh85. I would like to request a guide for how you shop. Smiley Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@ShortErica Haha! I've just had luck with good ones recently. There have definitely been some bad ones! 😉

Kinda gross masking:BD3C72AD-6126-4177-931E-B77E3DC6D5DF.jpegFAB, Goo&Tao Beauté & TY Farmer

F947E7BE-0E51-4490-AE56-A32DAAF761A0.jpeg

Spoiler
A quick oil cleanse and a good dollop of Thank You Farmer for some extra Hydration this morning. This is a B+ mask for me, I like that it's a soothing gel but it's a bit of a pain to remove (so slimy) and I prefer the scent and easier removal of the June Jacobs Mandarin Moisture Masque. Afterwards I applied my Skyn Iceland Hydrogel Eye Masks and Goo&Tao Beauté sheet mask. This was particularly interesting to me as I noticed Velvet Extract as an ingredient.

This was a fun one; deer antler velvet has IGF-1, which is a performance-enhancing supplement and a substance banned by the NFL, MLB, and the World Anti-Doping Agency. Eyes like saucers here; this is some major sheet-masking I just did; good thing I'm not an athlete 😄 So deer antler (or elk antler) velvet is "the tissue that covers the bone and cartilage that develop into deer (and elk) antlers." So I might just lump this into gross week, I'm not a vegetarian but the thought of cow placenta and deer tissue on my face doesn’t exactly make me feel all zen inside.

Anyways; the mask: oozing in a jelly-like serum, a very thin cotton material, gooey and great fitting, strong soapy scent, medium-high tackiness. Wouldn't use again due to the eww factor but it's a decent mask I would give a B.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe, WOW!  I thought you were an adventuresome group for all the different masks, but these recent ingredients take it to another level!  Mind blown!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@byme4u some of them are ingredients I’d rather not know existed 😂!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe  Wow, another interesting masking session!! I haven't tried my Skyn eye masks yet, and not sure I would try the sheet mask!!😉 To use deer velvet in mask is about as alluring as placenta, even happy soybean's placenta!!😘 Thanks again for making masking even more interesting!!!😊

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@yankeefaithful and I had no intention of it being gross, I put in my time with the Placenta Revival mask! At least I learned something new todaySmiley Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I would buy that sheet mask in an instant for the Alice in Wonderland themed packaging regardless of what I heard about it!  @eshoe

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Sooooo many masks look good on the outside @heartsmyface, no disagreements here! I saw your plcenta collection, it is pretty impressive though I respectfully would not be able to stomach the coffee😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Loving the facts on doping in professional sports @eshoe! Good knowledge. 👍🏼 I’m seriously going to see if I can causally drop that into a conversation this month. ☺️ Deer antler velvet 🦌 ... never would have crossed my mind as a skincare ingredient.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It sounds nice and soft in theory, but 1) how did someone discover it helps boost performance and 2) who decided/discovered it could prove beneficial to your skincare regiment @itsfi? Science is strange indeed!
