ARCHIVE - 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Spoiler

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Spoiler
Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe Their Waterest Lasting Water Oil is one of my favorite serums (it's not actually an oil). It's great for hydration and I often use this is the mornings, alternating between that and Maycoop's Raw Sauce.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thank you for the tip @quspork, I’m going to check that out!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

This is the first Gooda l sheet mask I have used @eshoe and I like it. I have samples of a sleeping mask and I want to say an essence from the brand but I haven't gotten around to trying them just yet.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I wonder if the essence is the same one @quspork  mentioned, @itsfi. Thanm you for letting me know!

Some "Q" masking tonight with Indie Lee's DIY Quinoa Mask

Yoplait, Ancient Harvest & Buzz BloomYoplait, Ancient Harvest & Buzz Bloom

Spoiler

For “Q” week I decided to try Indie Lee’s DIY Quinoa mask. She suggests using it as a face or body mask/scrub. It’s pretty simple, any quinoa will do, cooked and blended with some yogurt and a bit of honey. I chilled it for a couple of hours, and let my little mask helper apply it. We quickly discovered this is a verrrrry messy mask, along the lines of a rubber mask. I think next time I will try greek yogurt, since it’s a little thicker. It had a wonderful scent, though, and once applied, I left it on for a good 10 minutes. In the meantime, we were scrambling to run to the kitchen to wash our hands - anyone seen that Seinfeld episode where Kramer installs a garbage disposal in his shower? Not such a bad idea after all 😄

After removing in the kitchen sink, I took a peek at my skin. WOW I was impressed! My forehead (I always gauge mask performance this way, if I remember ha ha) appeared very smooth, and my entire face looked and felt so soft. I have never been a fan of DIY masks, it just seems kind of gross to me to put food on my face. But this one was well worth it, glad I jumped out of my comfort zone for Quinoa!

And a sheet mask to wrap it up:

Spoiler

The Lotus Soothing + Whitening Mask is a very pretty blush-colored rayon mask. It has quite a few essential oils, including red camellia, lemon, lavender, orange and geranium blossom. The mask had only a very faint scent, authentic and very relaxing. Think Lapcos 8-Flower Oil, Extra-Light version. The serum itself is a thinner jelly, and while the mask was somewhat dry when I removed it, there was enough essence to thoroughly saturate the mask once applied to my face.

I left this one on until it started to dry down in the philtrum area (I finally looked up the area between the nose and lips; this refers specifically to the space between the two indentations; I could not find anything that specifies the entire area), about 15 minutes. I would have liked to wear this one longer but I’ve read that letting a mask dry too much means it starts absorbing the moisture that you’ve just put onto your face. This had only a slight amount of tackiness, and brought even more plumping to my face - an A, would have been an A+ if more serum were included so I could wear it longer. These two masks were a great combo for my skin tonight, and ones I plan to use again!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

1. Love that you got a DIY in and it was so great! I must try this! 2. I feel educated now... Philtrum sounds so much better than my non-moustashed area! @eshoe great masks with your mini me!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Seriously there needs to be a better name @missjeanie, it just sounds too clinical. Next time I am going to make 1/8th of the recipe, so I don't waste any!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Body mask tonight with the leftovers @eshoe ??

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I thought about that, but where though @missjeanie? I need a garbage disposal in my shower! It’s so messy, I’m afraid to let that stuff wash off plus I’m too afraid of clogging the drain. I guess in the summer I could hose off outside?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

That sounds great @eshoe! I’ve never done a DIY mask before.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I haven’t done a food-related like this before, @faeriegirl. It was fun, next time I might try avocado now that I’m not afraid😆

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Did your mask helper get to pamper herself too @eshoe? Love that masking is a bonding time. 🙂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

She got a little freaked out by how chilly and messy it was, @ShortErica. Although she was quite happy to apply it to my face😄 She did a little bit of pampering, I don’t take those moments for granted. It was just fun hanging out and laughing together.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe that's so cool - getting into the mixing yourself - sounds really interesting! ALthough I agree it's always the worst when they get messy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Yeah @Kim888 I was rinsing quinoa out of my hair😄

I definitely wouldn't be opposed to the diy quinoa mask @...

I definitely wouldn't be opposed to the diy quinoa mask @eshoe it actually looks pretty cool!!

Re: I definitely wouldn't be opposed to the diy quinoa mask @...

It’s pretty messy @lmaster but I’m going to use it again! It only lasts a couple of days in the fridge, so I will probably use it tonight.

Re: I definitely wouldn't be opposed to the diy quinoa mask @...

It just looks so appealing @eshoe

Re: I definitely wouldn't be opposed to the diy quinoa mask @...

It did @lmaster, I took it out of the fridge tonight and you know how yogurt gets watery on top? It didn't look so appealing anymore lol

Re: I definitely wouldn't be opposed to the diy quinoa mask @...

Ooooooo 😳🤢 @eshoe

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe, this sheet mask was part of the 3-step mask set that I didn't care for BUT this was the one mask out of the set that I liked (that didn't sting when I had it on). Good to hear that it worked for you.
