ARCHIVE - 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Spoiler

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Spoiler
Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@lmaster  That looks really neat! I am curious what is meant by “unicorn glitter!”

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Well, tbh I put it on in very dim lighting, so I'm not sure if the gels had glitter in them or not @PrettyPaint but there was no glitter in the serum

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@byme4u it can be time consuming 😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@lmaster BioBelle makes two hydrogel masks, and I actually liked both of them, but I think I liked the black lace one called, "Glam" a little more. They are definitely super slippery! This is the one @eshoe tried, and described it as, "trying to handle a wet fish" haha! 😂😂 I'm glad you liked this one!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Yes the thought of this one makes me shudder @Shosh85 @lmaster 😆 I watched my uncles’ post-fishing routines one too many times when I was little, just ewwww😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85 too funny!! 😂😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

omg adorable packaging on that @lmaster !

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Love it @Kim888  thanks 😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I was really excited for this week's mask, but I couldn't get signed on yesterday.

I have used this mask twice and love it!   GLOW RECIPE - Avocado Melt Sleeping Mask I chose it because I wanted to try the 3rd generation hydroxy acids: polyhydroxy acid.  This mask contains the specific gluconolactone, a slow acting polyhydroxy acid.  My skin has a smooth glowing appearance.

I used it as the 10 min wash off.   I didn't expect such good results, and would never have looked into masking in cold weather, if not for all of you in this wonderful group!  You have without a doubt, increased my knowledge and interest in masking! Thank you, everyone, its such fun to be a part of this group!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I love the Glow Recipe Avocado Melt mask @byme4u! 🥑💚 I completely agree - I’ve learned a lot about masks from everyone here! 🥰

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Awww @byme4u I love this group, too! Masking is such a happy part of my day (for the most part, sometimes there are mishaps but at least I learn 😄 ).

What a great idea to use the Avocado Melt as a wash-off mask, I think I may get more use out of it that way! Thank you for the idea!!!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@byme4uThis one has gotten some great reviews!  Glad to hear you're loving it! I think winter is my favourite time to mask!  I get so much hydration from my masks!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@byme4u Oooh I have been wanting to try this one! Glad to hear you had good results!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@byme4u I have definitely been introduced to so many wonderful products I learned about on this thread!! – it's pretty awesome!

I have really loved using the Avocado Sleeping mask as well! I am happy to you've enjoyed it!! 😍🙌🤗

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@byme4u oh this is such a great product. I have the trial size from the Reward Bazaar or GWP and love it. I've only tried it as an overnight mask mostly cuz I love overnight masks but thanks for your thoughts as a wash off. I should def try that.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

So glad you're here @byme4u and even more exciting is that you had an amazing masking session!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

yay glad this worked out for you @byme4u ! This is totally a the sample made me want it product!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Glad to see this one is working well for you, @byme4u!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hope everyone had a great Monday! After this morning's masking, I think I may have a new favorite sheet mask material – microfiber. If a cotton sheet mask and a biocellulose sheet mask had a kid, his/her name would be … microfiber, and s/he would be the best kid ever!  I may also have another sheet mask to add to my list of favorites – Huangjisoo British Rose Hydrating Sheet Mask. This masks fits the woman owned / founded brands portion of this week’s challenge too - Huangjisoo is a vegan and EWG certified brand founded by Hwang Ji-Soo, a cosmetics developer, and it’s been reported that the inspiration behind the natural Korean skincare brand was born out of watching her mom’s struggles with psoriasis.

IMG_5580.JPG

Spoiler

In terms of fit, the mask is a little too wide and an half inch too long at the chin but that is it; everything else is a near perfect fit – no need for any adjustments to the eyes or mouth holes. In addition, the mask conforms nicely to the curves of my face, and adheres exceptionally well – it feels like my face is being softly hugged by the microfiber material. The mask also has a lovely natural rose scent – it’s not subtle, but it’s also not overwhelming either, and contains a light, milky liquidy essence that saturates the mask without drowning it.

Interestingly, the directions on the masksheets website (where I picked up this mask) says to leave it on for 20-30 minutes, but the instructions on the back of the packet call for 15 minutes of wear time. I went with my usual 30 and was not at all disappointed. Even though there’s excess essence that remains on my face waiting to be absorbed, I did not experience any tackiness from the essence; my skin just slurped up all its goodness and was left looking and feel well hydrated and moisturized with a soft, fresh glow. It’s marketed for all skin types and that’s probably accurate in the wintertime, but it may be too heavy for those with very oily skin when the weather warms up. Those with dry or dehydrated skin (hello!) should be happy with this one for most of the year. I can’t recommend this sheet mask enough – it’s an “A+”.

Ingredients:
Spoiler
The first and I think, only, reference to any sort of alcohol (good or bad) is butylene glycol, an organic (good) alcohol (has an EWG score of 1) that I see a lot in the ingredients list for sheet masks, and that, according to Paula’s Choice, is commonly used in skincare products as a texture enhancer. It appears as the 12th (yes, 12th) ingredient. That’s it; the vast majority of ingredients are herb and flower extracts, emoillients and humectants.

IMG_5848.JPG

by Terry Baume de Rose Lip Balm has a huge following - its velvety rich texture does a nice job of making my lips soft, smooth and plump, and its lovely rose scent smells amazing!. by Terry is also a woman founded / owned brand, and this balk was created by its founder, Terry de Gunzburg (who also created YSL Touche Eclat) and is an "A+" as well.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfiSounds like you had a great Monday Masking session!  I've heard great things about the By Terry Balm for years, just never quite got to it... I'll have to add it to my list! Love the ingredients list on that mask too!  So nice when a masking experience is amazing and so are the results!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Ooooh @itsfi I’ve always wondered about that By Terry, it seems like it would be such a luxurious balm. ETA: I am wondering how similar is this to the Herbivore Coconut Rose Balm...
