2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Welcome to the second half of the challenge. Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Welcome to the thread! Minty and refreshing sounds like a great summertime mask. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

You are welcome, @Alphaboo

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Welcome to the thread @l8totheparty !! I remember seeing lots of juice reviews a few years ago, but don’t remember hearing about a mask! Let us know how you feel about it come morning! I love wash off masks!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Welcome to the masking challenge, @l8totheparty! Love your review, I had no idea Juice Beauty has a mask. Great pairing with the minty scents, too. @lmaster shared that using a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks makes it a little easier. Since you mentioned a filmy residue just thought I would throw it out there; maybe it would help, maybe not🤷🏻‍♀️

Thanks for posting, hope to see you more here! I started out new to masking, too😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe I just can't imagine you new to masking! It is kinda blowing my mind. But I guess everyone was new to masking at some point before they became an expert. I'm still trying to level up. 😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@ShortErica That’s generous of you to say but I’m probably one of the least knowledgeable maskers. I just do it for fun! There are countless others here with real expertise; for the time being, I just get to be lucky enough to facilitate a thread😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

You're very modest @eshoe. I get what you are saying that others are very ingredient savvy and masking experts but you have tried a few and I value your feedback. And you are an amazing thread facilitator!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe The filmy residue was really easy to wipe off with a wet cloth, and didn't linger 🙂 Thanks for the tip about the eraser!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

You're welcome! That tip has greatly improved my masking life, @l8totheparty  Smiley Wink

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe awwwww 😘🤗

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Welcome @l8totheparty! Smiley Happy Will be interested in hearing how your skin looks/feels this morning, but the mask sounds pretty good so far. Glad to hear that it didn't irritate your skin or cause your eyes to water.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi I have no negative reaction this morning, so it's a win!  My skin looks/feels moisturized and calm. @missjeanie

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Woohoo!!!! Yes, a total win! That is excellent news @l8totheparty! Those are great results; a happy dance is in order!! Smiley Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

🎉 since it is a nice sized tub, this will last me *forever* if I remember to use it once or twice a week, so it better have been good! 😊 @itsfi

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@l8totheparty   Oh yay!!!  Welcome to the masking cult!   Ha, I tried a juice beauty product sample once and it smelled like apples so I have always just assumed everything else in their line smelled like apples too!  I would have never guessed it was minty!   was there a cooling effect?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thank you!

No cooling effect at all!  So wild because once I smelled the mint I figured there would be. I also assumed, incorrectly, that juice would smell like apples because of the other product I like. Which brings me to wonder what their anti-aging eye cream smells like, as I would not want to have mint that close to my eyes all day, you know?  @heartsmyface

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@l8totheparty  me- looks over at my mint eye drops and grins.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

V is for Vitamin

Oh my goodness; how cute is the packaging on the SNP Ice Bear Vita Mask?!! I usually pull a handful of sheet masks aside for me to choose from during the week - most of these masks will fall within one if not both of the themes of the week, and some are masks that I've been wanting to try or that I have used before and love. This mask falls under the new-to-me masks that I've been wanting to use and it happens to also be one that fits easily into one of the week's themes - V for Vitamin with this one. This mask leans on the thicker side, so much so that on a couple of occasions I wondered if there might be a second layer to it that I forgot to remove. Nope; it's just the mask. There's an initial scent to this that is quite nice but I can't place it; it dissipates quickly after applying the mask to my face. The usual adjustments are needed to the corners of the mouth and nose, especially the eyes because the mask covers my entire eye lid, coming down to rest just along my lash line. Directions call for 10-20 minutes of wear time but I left the mask on for about 40 minutes; and when I removed it, there was still some of the gel like serum to be patted into the skin and smoothed onto my arms. My skin looks fresh and bright and feels nourished and supple. This one is going on the repurchase list. Another repurchase worthy product is the SEPHORA COLLECTION - Lip Balm & Scrub - Honey which I topped off my lips with while I had the Ice Bear mask on.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi I'm so happy to hear this was a winner! I have this one in my stash to try sometime and the blue and green ones in my cart waiting for me when I'm ready for another mask haul! That cute packaging was definitely the real reason I bought mine, but I'm happy to hear the results are great too! 😂😃

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@Shosh85, can't blame you; the packaging was why I picked this one and the other bears up. hahaha! I'm pretty sure I'm going to have a lot of full shopping carts by the time I am free to do a mask haul. My mask no-buy started yesterday; I gave myself 5 exceptions for masks I can pick up during the mask no-buy, and I've put 3 masks on that exceptions list already. lol.
