2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Welcome to the second half of the challenge. Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I have the Huile Prodigieuse with gold @missjeanie , perfect for a nice summer glow ( body ) . I also have too many skincare products, I could open a small store! I could even customize skincare routines! ( I was a pharmacist until April 1st so I had 1 year of compounding classes and labs when I was in pharmacy school, this helps a lot! )

Re: RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@keana1 I’ve thought about trying the oil so many times! I’m not big on sparkle though and worry it would come off with too much sparkle for my Uber pale self. Might need to check out shoppers and see if they have a tester!

Re: RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It’s not really that sparkly @missjeanie ! I’m also pale as a ghost 👻! You could put me next to a white wall and I’ll blend in! SDM should have a tester available !

Re: RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I have to guess that it’s Biotherm @itsfi !

Re: RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

That's a good one @keana1! The masks I used yesterday were from Vichy. I don't know if I've ever tried anything from Biotherm - have you, mask or otherwise?

Re: RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I’ve only tried some samples a while ago @itsfi ! But I remember liking them, I believe they were from the Blue Therapy line ( serum and serum in oil ). I also have a DS of the Sunfitness After Sun Skin Illuminating Moisturizing Sparkle Cream

Re: RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thanks @keana1; will have to look them up. Smiley Happy

Re: RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I am late to the party but my first thought was Vichy too, your style!

Re: RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Thanks @eshoe! We maskers seem to be up at all hours so you can't be late - the masking party is around the clock.Smiley Happy

Re: RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

That’s one thing (among many) that I am so thankful for @itsfi. Waking up in the middle of the night is never dull here😊

Re: RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@itsfi Maybe Vichy? I have no idea which mask it would be though, because I'm not very familiar with this brand 😃🤔

Re: RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Yay @Shosh85. first one to chime in with the correct answer. It was Vichy! I first discovered their masks during last year's mask challenge - Farmacy or French pharmacy week.

Re: RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Ooo I love Vichy..well the only product I've used is the Mineral 89. But if it is, I'll be curious to see what mask this is @Shosh85 @itsfi

Re: RE: Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Vichy Mineral 89 is a popular product @ShortErica, and for good reason - it's such a nice hydrator! That was my first intro to Vichy!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Last night's masks continued with yesterday's Vitamin E theme

I came home last night and was debating which of my Vitamin E sheet masks to use and decided that a Christmas in May sub-theme with Hello Kitty Claus here was the way to go. With such wonderful ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, glycerin and Vitamin E, it sounded like hydration heaven and this cute packaging didn't hurt either. The Creme Shop Hello Kitty Frost Bite Infused Sheet Mask was a gift from the very generous and thoughtful @veronika23 - thank you, V! This has been one I've been wanting to try out for a while. The sheet mask material shape, size, weight and fit are all what I would consider standard for a sheet mask - not too thick, not too thin cotton materials; an inch too long at the chin and jawline for my face size; and requiring the slightest of adjustments to the corners of the mouth and eyes. It even has that signature sheet mask scent. Smiley Wink  This mask also has eye flaps which is not common in most sheet masks; I don't cover my eyes with them but like to bring them higher up on my under eye area. Directions (I'm reading them more frequently now, though skimming may be a more apt description of what I'm doing - ha!) call for 15-20 minutes of wear time, so I figured my regular half hour would be just fine...and it was. After I removed the mask, my face looked and felt hydrated, fresh and bright. Before turning off the lights, I applied some of the Dear, Klairs Vitamin Freshly Juiced Vitamin E Mask as an overnight / sleep mask - as a quick debrief, this is the mask that bounces back to its original form in the jar after you scoop out some product. As with my previous uses, I really like the hydration and moisture I get from this mask; it's a keeper.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Love this combination of masks @itsfi ! The Klairs mask sounds lovely, another one to add to my list of masks! ❤️❤️❤️ I’m glad that you enjoyed your masking! 😉

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

The Klairs Vitamin E mask is a nice one @keana1! It can be used as a wash off, sleeping mask or a moisturizer. These two masks were great for hydration! Smiley Happy

oh I remember you describing this mask before @itsfi supe...

oh I remember you describing this mask before @itsfi super cute hello Kitty!!!

Re: oh I remember you describing this mask before @itsfi supe...

The bounce back feature on this one is fun to see @lmaster! Smiley Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello Kitty for the win!  I have two sleeping masks that do that bounce back thing as well @itsfi , amazes me every time I open the jar!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

So mesmerizing, isn't it @missjeanie?! Smiley Happy
