2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

oh there were full on tears for a few seconds there @eshoe Onions have nothing on this mask!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Oh I’m so sorry @missjeanie ! Sounds like my first boscia peel-off. Terror and tears. NOT the stuff my masking dreams are made of😆

RE: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

These past few months I have really been struggling with my skin. It has been acting up pretty badly from my PCOS flaring up again and from stress so I’ve been trying to use my go-to acne masks more often. Im excited that I found this thread and can’t wait to learn about the masks that everyone else uses for their own skin concerns and if anyone else is dealing with PCOS skin and what they use! As for me, the GLAMGLOW SUPERMUD, which I have on currently, has been my go-to emergency breakout control mask for a long time. It is something that I have been able to almost always work well and to work quickly. For the past few weeks I’ve been using this 3 times a week in the mornings and it’s been helping somewhat, but it’s been getting worse so I’m definitely going to go see my dermatologist and my ob/gyn soon to get my PCOS under control again and to hopefully get these related breakouts to stop and to heal because it’s really starting to affect my self-confidence unfortunately. I’ve been uncomfortable going out in public without full coverage concealer and foundation and that’s just not a good way to feel. In January I also got a sample bag full of sleep masks from one of the JCPenny Sephora stores near me and the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask was one of the samples in there so I used that last week and I really liked how soft my skin felt the next morning so I plan on using it again this week!

@sr20kimme this is a great mask! perfect for spot treatme...

@sr20kimme this is a great mask! perfect for spot treatments too 😍

Re: RE: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Can't wait for you to continue sharing your masking experiences @sr20kimme. So many of the BIC have wonderful insights and give very thorough reviews of masks they use. Welcome!

Re: RE: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Welcome to the masking challenge, @sr20kimme! I am so sorry to hear about your skin troubles (along with everything else, boo!) lately.

Everyone here is very helpful, and we try to have fun along the way, so if anything else, besides some masking tips, you’ll have a few laughs. So glad you’re here! 😊

Re: RE: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@sr20kimme Thank you for sharing! Welcome to BIC and the mask challenge thread!

Re: RE: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Aw it sounds like you’ve been having a rough time.  Big hugs.

I also am a fan of the Glamglow SuperMud.   It delivers some serious tingles at first but it really does work.  @sr20kimme

Re: RE: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@sr20kimme Loved hearing your thoughts on these masks! Thanks for sharing Smiley Happy

Re: RE: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@sr20kimme welcome to the thread!  Everyone here is so helpful, so I'm sure you'll find some information to help you out on your journey.  I'm sorry that you're having to go through all of this.  Life sure just isn't fair sometimes.  Fingers crossed your doctors and some masking can help you get your skin back to where you're more comfortable with yourself.  Remember, who you are is so much more than how your skin looks right now.

Re: RE: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@sr20kimme  I'm so sorry to hear you're struggling with your skin and PCOS. I think it's a good plan to see your doctors to help get things a little more under control.

I've always liked using SuperMud to help dry and clear things up! That is my go-to acne mask as well 😉👍 I'm very happy you find this thread! I hope to see more of you around here! 😊

Re: RE: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@sr20kimme ugh PCOS sucks - my doc has been trying to switch me to a lower dose estrogen pill now that I'm older (PCOS has rendered me infertile so I'm really just taking birth control to try not to form painful cysts) and my skin has gone insane while we are trying to figure out the right dosage.

Re: RE: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I'm excited you found this thread too @sr20kimme! Smiley Happy  I'm sorry you've been struggling with your skin. I think it's a good plan that you are going to see your dermatologist and OB/GYN - there's often a lot of trial and error with skincare and it'd be helpful to get their thoughts on what might help.

The Laneige Water Sleeping Mask was the first sleeping mask I used; it hydrates my skin and, like you, I really like how soft it makes my skin feel.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I iced up an Iloje jewel modeling mask tonight in keeping with the G theme.  There’s so much product in a pack that I could have had a few friends mask with me.  I used less than half.  Update to follow once this dries.

me and mixing don't go well @heartsmyface 😂😂

me and mixing don't go well @heartsmyface 😂😂

Re: me and mixing don't go well @heartsmyface 😂😂

Fair enough.  I normally like things quick, clean and easy but there’s something fun about getting a spatula out and stirring up a concoction once in a while.  It took me quite a while to get around to this mask cause it took a few extra steps so I get it.  @lmaster

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

The packaging and name say "fancy" to me which equals special occasion mask in my book. Too bad it was only a "B" but your face rocked the gold look @heartsmyface. The tigger ears are just an added bonus.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@heartsmyface That mask looks like fun and the glitter is a nice extra touch!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Alright, so it took me about 40 minutes to realize the mask was actually dry.  It retained a slippery film that felt pretty wet so I thought it hadn’t dried down yet.  The mask left a slimey residue on my face which I patted into my skin.  It dried down tacky and feels like I’m wearing a primer.  I think I would grade this mask a B.  It was fun in that I liked mixing the sachets together and I like glitter.   There’s no glitter in the residue which is nice.  It’s a B because I’m not a fan of super tacky skin.  I’ll be washing this off my face and probably defeating the purpose of the mask.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@heartsmyface I totally get using sheet masks when you're time crunched... but it is kinda fun mixing up a max concoction and spending the time on yourself when you can.  Good to know when masks like this have so much product, thanks for the review!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hahaha, when I was applying it I was wondering  if I wasn’t putting it on thick enough.  I tried goopingot on but it wasn’t really working.  Yeah this is a party pack!  😂 @missjeanie
